Crowds in the parks yesterday

Mrgrinch · 31/03/2021 10:42

I've been seeing pictures and videos of the amount of people gathering in the sun yesterday and I am genuinely shocked.

Has nobody learned anything in the past year?
Do they want to continue going in and out of lockdown forever?

I really do understand the people who just want their freedom back, I want mine too. But the pictures of Hyde park yesterday look like something from a music festival. Not to mention the mess left behind this morning.

Should I just shut up because transmission is low outdoors? Or is this a sign that warm weather means people ignore all the rules?

Don't worry it will snow by the weekend. For now, make hay!

HesterLee · 31/03/2021 10:50

I was in Regents Park yesterday. It was busy but everyone sitting kept well away from others. Are the pictures you are seeing of Hyde Park taken from above or at ground level?

tisonlymeagain · 31/03/2021 10:53

In my experience, the pictures in the media don't always look like the actual situation. I've been on a beach when the Mail or the Sun have printed photos of it being crowded like sardines and it felt nothing of the sort. As long as people are sticking to the rule of 6 or two households, keeping away from others, live and let live I say.

AcornAutumn · 31/03/2021 10:55

Have you learned anything from the past year OP?

Plumbear2 · 31/03/2021 10:56

It's a hard one to judge. It was a hot day, chances are it was many small groups meeting up. Unfortunately so many small groups with the same idea soon turns into a crowd. You carnt really blame people unless they whete delibrately meeting up in larger groups or causing trouble. Maybe thete needs to be a cap on how many groups can enter the park at one time.

Ikora · 31/03/2021 10:56

I hate noise so have always avoided crowds but I suppose many especially in cities don’t have a nice outside space. So I can see why it happened though people that litter are anti social.

I could sit in comfort in my own garden yesterday which is private and has though according to a poster last year a tacky rattan sofa set. I appreciate I’m lucky to have this.

ClarkeGriffin · 31/03/2021 10:57

The mess left behind is what pissed me off most. If they want to go out and potentially catch a virus that may kill them, more fool them. But do they have to leave behind shit tons of rubbish? No. They aren't animals, they have brains, they just don't use them.

LST · 31/03/2021 10:57

Did you not learn anything from last summer? Ya know, when the numbers kept going down even though the country basically opened back up? The rubbish being left is just pure scum, but I dont blame them for anything else

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 31/03/2021 10:58

Oh so bloody what?

I am so sick of this whole bloody shit show.

Hadjab · 31/03/2021 10:59

Has nobody learned anything in the past year?

We’ve learned that the BLM protests that took place last year, in the warmer weather, did not cause a spike in infections.

We’ve learned that people rushing to the beaches last year, in the warmer weather, also did not cause a spike in infections.

We’ve learned that the virus is less virulent in warmer weather and direct sunshine.

We’ve learned that the camera does lie - what you see from one angle can look completely different from another.

Excellent post!

I think they should be compelled to show ariel shots if they show other angles. When they do, it's rarely anything like as crowded.

If people are sticking to groups is 6/2families and keeping a distance then I'm hopeful it'll be ok. The lack of social distancing amongst friends/family will transmit a lot more virus than the park being quite busy.

You are not alone. No longer give a fuck.
Iheartmysmart · 31/03/2021 11:04

The littering is really awful and I do judge them massively for that, but for being outside on a lovely sunny day after what feels like forever being locked up no way.

And if you believe the images in the media then just remember how manipulative they’ve been throughout.

Magnificentmug12 · 31/03/2021 11:05

What habjab said.

ComDummings · 31/03/2021 11:05

People need fresh air. I’m going demented being around zero people apart from my husband and children. I loved seeing the photos of people in the park enjoying the sun. Honestly loved them. Outdoor transmission risk is so small, people need to live not just exist.

Salarymallory · 31/03/2021 11:05

The litter bothers me

But the groups enjoying the sun in public parks make me happy and optimistic

ComDummings · 31/03/2021 11:05

To be fair the littering is gross and inexcusable but that’s a different issue.

Northernsoullover · 31/03/2021 11:06

I work in a covid related capacity and I am a stickler for the rules. I would lose my job if I broke them. However outside transmission is low so I can't get worked up about it.
I'm more angry about the litter these crowds left.

Yep. Sorry OP.

LindaEllen · 31/03/2021 11:07

Who's ignoring the rules though? We can meet up in the park in groups of 6/2 families now. So of course that's what people are going to do. Even in a busy park so long as you can keep 2m away from others transmission will be minimal.

All of those people in the park are ALLOWED to be there. So why shouldn't they?

Hardbackwriter · 31/03/2021 11:07

Yes
