To change by babies name

Name change for this as possibly outing

My 10 week old baby boy is called Jesse. I like it but recently many people have been asking whether it’s a girl or boy. Although I don’t mind this, he may as he gets older and I don’t want to make life hard for him.

Should I change it now?

YANBU: Jesse
YABU: change name

Keep it.
But be proactive in dropping in the words 'he' and 'son' when introducing him as it will save their embarrassment and your upset.

Zelda93 · 28/03/2021 19:11

I love the name .. keep it

UrsulaBee · 28/03/2021 19:13

I love it. I immediately think of a boy when I hear it.

NatalieH2220 · 28/03/2021 19:13

Keep it. We nearly called our DS2 Jesse. I think it's a lovely name!

seatofmars · 28/03/2021 19:15

Love it for a boy! Can't get 'I wish I had Jesse's girl' out of my head now!

iolaus · 28/03/2021 19:19

He;s 10 weeks old, it's his name

Leave it

CatCup · 28/03/2021 19:21

Keep it. He will start looking like a boy soon.

Happycat1212 · 28/03/2021 19:23

I like it, I would leave it

Butterflyball · 28/03/2021 19:24

Ooh keep it, my absolute favourite boys name. I've stopped now with 2 girls but if either of them would've been a boy this is the name I would've chosen 💕💙

TeaTimeReader · 28/03/2021 19:24

Jesse was on our shortlist... once he’s a little older if will be immediately obvious he’s a boy and no one will need to ask

traintrain · 28/03/2021 19:25

It’s a lovely name, I’d keep it

This.

Chillychili · 28/03/2021 19:26

You should keep it, I got told by a lady earlier ‘don’t lose his bootie’ my dd had a pink hat on it’s just babies they all look very similar when so young

Alreadyinmypyjamas · 28/03/2021 19:28

First time I've seen Mumsnet completely complimentary about a name.

Good sign. Keep it.

Derrymum123 · 28/03/2021 19:28

Keep it. Beautiful Bible name. I think it's one of the loveliest boys names ever.

Markies · 28/03/2021 19:31

Probably a mumsnetter who doesn’t believe pink clothes are girly! 🤣 🙄
polkadotraindrops · 28/03/2021 19:38

My DD has a girls name, although it's not super common but it is very much a girls name. When she was a baby, strangers used to call her a boy even though she was wearing pink and they'd confuse her name with a vaguely similar boys name. Don't worry too much about other people's reactions! They'd do this no matter what his name was & find some way to confuse things. Now she is older, nobody confuses her sex. And if they did, she would put them right back in their place Grin like others have said, it's a temporary issue and one which would likely happen irrespective of what name you'd picked.

LadyCatStark · 28/03/2021 19:40

DS’s friend’s brother is called Jesse and no one thinks he’s a girl now that he’s about 7. He has longish hair too.

georgarina · 28/03/2021 19:40

If you like the name, keep it.

If not, change it.

We changed DS's name after we registered it, because he just didn't fit the name we gave him at first.

traffolls · 28/03/2021 19:40

Oh Jesse is lovely. Keep!

georgarina · 28/03/2021 19:41

*Having said that, I think Jesse is a cool name. It was on my boy list this time (but I'm having a girl).

ChelseaCat · 28/03/2021 19:43

We have the same issue with my DS. He has a traditionally boys name but it is now unfortunately more popular and well known as a girls name. It is a bit annoying but people are generally pretty embarrassed when they are corrected.

Don’t change it if you love it

Grapewrath · 28/03/2021 19:44

Jesse is a lovely name. Keep it

AegonT · 28/03/2021 19:45

I really like Jesse and even babies with obviously gendered names often get called the wrong sex - it happened to my baby girl loads. Once her hair got long it stopped but it didn't bother me anyway.

GaraMedouar · 28/03/2021 19:47

I think of Jesse James. My cousin called her son Jesse. Wasn’t my favourite choice but it’s grown on me. I’d keep it.
