To change by babies name

Name change for this as possibly outing

My 10 week old baby boy is called Jesse. I like it but recently many people have been asking whether it’s a girl or boy. Although I don’t mind this, he may as he gets older and I don’t want to make life hard for him.

Should I change it now?

YANBU: Jesse
YABU: change name

I love the name. If I had a boy now it would be in my top 2

Cissyandflora · 28/03/2021 20:54

Jesse was in my top three boys names. I love it. There’s a song by Carly Simon about Jesse.
I know an adult Jesse with long hair and he is supercool.

ViolaValentina · 28/03/2021 20:56

Jesse is lovely and makes me think of Jesse Williams who is very manly (and gorgeous) Grin

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 28/03/2021 20:57

Keep it. I love it! This will only be a short term 'probelm'. As a baby my DD could be head to toe in pink and was sometimes still referred to as he. It never bothered me and she certainly doesn't look like a boy at 4 (if she ever did).

Troublewaters2021 · 28/03/2021 21:00

Once he is older it won’t make a difference
My teen son has the same name and everyone knows his a boy now :)

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 28/03/2021 21:02

I love the name Jesse! DH vetoed it though before we found out we were having girls. 😫

Mhc19 · 28/03/2021 21:03

I love the name Jesse. It was on my boys name list.

KindnessCrusader · 28/03/2021 21:04

I think it's lovely!

steppemum · 28/03/2021 21:09

I know several older Jesses.

They really don;t get any hassle with the name.

Don't forget that this can apply to dozens of names that could be male or female. It is just a clarification question. And when they see it written down, they won't even need that

CoffeeRunner · 28/03/2021 21:10

People used to ask if my two DSs were boys or girls too in the early days. Neither has a unisex name.

Keep it unless you feel strongly otherwise.

Nothingyet · 28/03/2021 21:14

When I was a child calling a boy a Jessie was saying he was like a girl (not a compliment in primary school). It might toughen him up though, like A Boy named Sue.

1Morewineplease · 28/03/2021 21:17

Just ignore. So many names are unisex... Bailey, Evelyn, Jaime, Morgan, Jackie... the list is endless.
Don't worry about it , just say that your child is a boy or a girl. No worries.

Tatum1234 · 28/03/2021 21:18

There are two Jesses in my son’s school, I really like it.

Sceptre86 · 28/03/2021 22:40

It is a really pretty name, as he gets older noone will mistake him for a girl. If you like the name otherwise I would keep it.

Cookies47 · 28/03/2021 22:45

My 10 week old DD has a gender neutral name that is more commonly used with boys & has been called 'he' a good few times. Doesn't bother me at all, I just say "oh, she's a girl!" & we move along, all good :)

sayanythingelse · 28/03/2021 22:50

I love it! Although I'm slightly annoyed because it's getting popular and it's been on my boys names list since I was a teen fangirl of Jesse Lacey Grin

PeggyHill · 28/03/2021 22:56

I think "Jesse" is always male, although when you say it outloud people could think you are saying "Jessie"

pabloescobarselasticband · 28/03/2021 23:38

I love it for a boy, not so much for a girl.

OwlinaTree · 28/03/2021 23:45

Ooh my DD was going to be Jesse or Elijah if she was a DS. Love the name. Keep it. My son's name shortens to a unisex name and he's got long hair, he was often called she - who cares? It's not people who know you.

steppemum · 29/03/2021 09:06

You do know that there are 2 names?

Jessie (usually short for Jessica)
and Jesse (always a boys name)

I know that it used to be an insult to call someone a big Jessie, but that is old. And nothing at all like a boy names Sue, because well, jesse is a boys name!

LizzieSiddal · 03/04/2021 10:50

I know a Jesse who’s in his twenty’s. He’s very cool and a lovely person. Glad you are keeping it.

FireflyRainbow · 03/04/2021 10:52

I know 2 primary school aged boys called Jesse and think its lovely.

FireflyRainbow · 03/04/2021 10:54

My girl cats called Jessie 😆

MrsExpo · 03/04/2021 10:56

Going against the grain here, but I don't like it at all and would change it in a heartbeat.
