To change by babies name

Name change for this as possibly outing

My 10 week old baby boy is called Jesse. I like it but recently many people have been asking whether it’s a girl or boy. Although I don’t mind this, he may as he gets older and I don’t want to make life hard for him.

Should I change it now?

YANBU: Jesse
YABU: change name

Makes me think of a rugged Australian cowboy with beard and checked shirt (that's a good thing)

Keep it, its a really, really nice name! Congrats on new arrival OP

Tillytwilight · 28/03/2021 19:51

Does he have a middle name? Perhaps use that if you prefer it

tnetenba · 28/03/2021 19:52

Another keep it here. You could dress him in head to toe blue and introduce him as macho macho Stanley and you'll still have people tell you she's lovely.

BitOfFun · 28/03/2021 19:52

I'm glad you will keep it- so cute!

DinosApple · 28/03/2021 20:02

It's a fantastic name, keep it!

That was my Dad's choice of name for me if I'd have been a boy, and I love it.

Thefaceofboe · 28/03/2021 20:06

I hear it as a girls name only because I don’t know a boy called Jesse but I do know several girls. I love it for a boy though and I personally would keep it

ImAlrightThanx · 28/03/2021 20:08

I love Jesse as a boys name.
As a short for Jessica I think it's horrible mind you!

Treaclepie19 · 28/03/2021 20:10

Our second son was called Jesse ❤ Beautiful name. I'd leave it.

SnackSizeRaisin · 28/03/2021 20:16

Op you could call him Steve and people would still think he was a girl! Some people seem to have an uncanny ability to get babies' sex wrong.

Lizadork · 28/03/2021 20:21

Keep it 100% - Jesse always a cool boy name to me. Was on our list too but we had girls and I always see Jesse as a boy.

The character in Free Willy is Jesse Smile

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 28/03/2021 20:21

I love it. I dont think it will be an issue when he is a toddler and more clearly 'looks like a boy'. For the moment you could just say 'this is Jesse, he is...4 months old / a bit shy / whatever so it's clear he is a boy.

If you really dislike the name though change it now, before everyone knows him as that and before he realises it's his name. If you wait til after he is one the legal process is harder

LindaEllen · 28/03/2021 20:21

It'll be less and less of a problem as he gets older. You can't really tell whether young babies are boys or girls but that'll change. I think it's a lovely name :).

ADragonCalledKeith · 28/03/2021 20:24

@seatofmars love that song! Jesse is a great name too!

Pinkpepper9 · 28/03/2021 20:26

Lovely name please keep it! :)

PerspicaciousGreen · 28/03/2021 20:42

If you like it, keep it! It's definitely a boy's name and a perfectly normal one at that. We've accidentally given both our children names that are for their gender but it turns out can be easily misheard as the other gender - same scenario as you, really. We still love the names and it's not been a problem for us at all. The occasional emphatic "he" or "she" sorts it out soon enough, and if it's just chitchat with a stranger it doesn't matter.

Newuser82 · 28/03/2021 20:44

Gorgeous name. Was on our list. Keep it!!

Joolsin · 28/03/2021 20:45

Fabulous name - I'm glad you're keeping it

gabsdot45 · 28/03/2021 20:49

The most handsome man I know in real life is called Jesse.

Badgershy · 28/03/2021 20:49

Our son is William. Dressed head to toe in blue is was still often mistaken for a girl. Keep the name.

Happycat1212 · 28/03/2021 20:51

Agree with the comments about people asking either way, my daughter use to have a pink pram and would be wearing a dress but I would still get asked if she was a boy or a girl!

FortniteBoysMum · 28/03/2021 20:52

My eldest is called Joshua. I had a blue pram with blue blankets and he would be on a blue outfit sometimes and I still had idiots say isn't she pretty. I pointed out that no he is adorable. Some people are just idiots even if it's a clear as day boys name and everything suggests the child is a boy they still assume their a girl. I bet they don't assume little girls in dresses are boys mind.

Happycat1212 · 28/03/2021 20:53

Oh they do! See my above post!
