Sex and the City reboot...

I am a huuuge SATC fan and was pleased to hear they are creating a reboot.

But apparently Mr Big won't be in it...nor Steve Brady. Obviously we all know Samantha isn't returning either.

AIBU to think this reboot is a bit pointless if some of the main characters are no longer there? Or should I embrace any new characters they introduce? Probably just being a grumpy twat!

I’m excited too but disappointed that Samantha isn’t in it. She was seriously fun viewing.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 19/02/2021 08:10

I don't have high hopes but these things can sometimes surprise you. Sometimes. If they do something new with it and update it properly I suppose it could work. Things change in real life too.

Samantha was the most watchable and enjoyable though, so they really have a lot of compensating to do...

HighNoon · 19/02/2021 08:11

Dear god no. (And I enjoyed that nonsense first time round)

BreakfastOfWaffles · 19/02/2021 08:11

I think you have to go into it without expecting it to be the same. We have to move on with them!

WineIsMyMainVice · 19/02/2021 08:12

Also a huge fan here..... I didn’t realise there wouldn’t be Big or Steve in it! How are they going to weave them out of the storyline? Especially Big after all the on/off/on/off of the whole of the last series.....
When does it start? Do we know yet?

Bells3032 · 19/02/2021 08:20

Euch didn't realise no big or Steve (Steve is currently on Chicago fire and no idea about big).

So it's just gonna be three whiny women in the city really. Samantha was really the comedy of the show so no idea how this is gonna work without her.

ExtraOnions · 19/02/2021 08:26

I enjoyed the series ... I thought the first film was good fun .... the second film was awful .. I don’t have high hopes for the reboot. I think it could cope with the loss of one main character, but not three. Big and Steve soften up some of the really unpleasant characteristics of Carrie and Miranda. I think some things are better left ...

Mermaidwaves · 19/02/2021 08:30

I wonder what they can do with it now though? The original series were four women in their thirties having sex in the city. It was funny at the time and I loved the fashion and men dilemas but I'm not sure it will be the same now the girls are quite a bit older? I don't think it will feel the same somehow.

FuckyouCovid21 · 19/02/2021 08:34

I don't think I could watch any more Carrie Bradshaw, she was not a nice person

YoniAndGuy · 19/02/2021 08:42

No Steve?! Ooh I might watch it then.

That awful groaning poor me voice. Utterly slappable in every way. Hated him.

hopeishere · 19/02/2021 08:47

I think Steve and Miranda will have split up do that Dan be explained.

Maybe Big will be "there" but just not on screen?

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/02/2021 08:48

I could watch Miranda all day. I always thought she was the most real. Love Charlottes clothes and yes Samanths was very funny, but Carrie? Sometimes she is wonderful and sometimes awful.

Pippin2028 · 19/02/2021 08:53

SATC has had its day now, I like rewatching but some of the things they say and do would not fly today! I'm not really sure what's left on their stories now but of course like everyone I will end up watching it when it returns!

Meredithgrey1 · 19/02/2021 09:00

Will Harry be in it? He was always my fave of the main partners.

Having said that, even if he is I probably still won’t watch it.

ilikebooksandplants · 19/02/2021 09:11

I just don’t see the point in bringing it back. I never see the point in any of this reforming nonsense (from a ‘let’s make a great film/tv show/a great pop band’ POV, of course they only really do it to make money!) because it’s always shit.

SATC was a fun watch back in the day. I could probably still kill some time with a box set of it now. But the world doesn’t need any more of it, good grief!

InglouriousBasterd · 19/02/2021 09:14

I was just reading that the third film they had planned had Big die of a heart attack at the start of it - I wonder if they’ll go down that track? Samantha has apparently ‘drifted apart’ from the others...doesn’t really fit.

mnahmnah · 19/02/2021 09:16

I didn’t realise Big and Steve weren’t in it either. I’m going to go with Big died and Steve had another affair.

FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 19/02/2021 09:19

@WineIsMyMainVice I think they are in production now..? I'm sure I read that somewhere!

A reboot is redundant - just watch SJP in Divorce.

Piggyhoolier · 19/02/2021 09:23

I’m on the fence. I’ll probably watch it, but with low expectations - which might mean I really enjoy it.

I think some reboots have been brilliant, Cold Feet springs to mind. But most of the original cast were in that. Gavin & Stacey was also pretty good...not a patch on the original, but still a nice watch. Although again with almost all the original cast. I think if we watch things when we’re a similar age or life stage to the characters, then doing a new version of them now that they’re in our current life stage experiencing the same issues makes sense.

But I do hope the SATC reboot is better than film 2 which was pretty shite

supercee · 19/02/2021 09:23

Loved it back in the day but watched the SATC box set and realised how awful Carrie was. It hasn't aged well. Don't have high hopes for the reboot.

Sultanainasalad · 19/02/2021 09:31

I loved it back in the day and still enjoy repeats. Carrie wasn't perfect but never understood why people disliked her so intently, as if female leads have to be likeable.
I don't have particularly high hopes for this reboot as in general they are usually never as good, however in theory why is a show with single/ divorced women on their 50's such a turn off. It's not something we see very often and in theory I'm not against it.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 19/02/2021 09:42

Ooh yeah Big will have died and Carrie will be swanning about in her usual affected manner in full mourning gear. I predict a lot of Dior black lace, and her staring pensively across Manhattan from her floor to ceiling penthouse windows.

TheVanguardSix · 19/02/2021 09:45

I'm really looking forward to it. I loved it back in the day and still do. It was such a well-written show, the clothes were fabulous, it's set in New York (enough said!). I lived in New York for several years and I find myself absolutely longing for it these days.

Doesn't everything get a bit dated? Who cares? It's a time capsule from a period of my life that is gone and actually, I'm looking forward to seeing what they deliver next. It'll be fun. I have to say, I'm not that bothered about Steve or Big. It's a bummer about Samantha, but oh well. I'll still be watching.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/02/2021 09:48

I loved it at the time, but do think I will probably give it a miss this time. No Samantha! Might wait and see if it gets good reviews or friends like it.
