Just that really.
Wondering how much debt the average person is in.. Including mortgage, loans, credit cards, overdraft?

Just curious!

Just mortgage now, student loans gone (took 20 years), modest car just paid off. We’ll probably save then take out a bargain loan to do our kitchen soon.

44PumpLane · 18/02/2021 07:07

I only have mortgage debt

Rangoon · 18/02/2021 07:07

None - own house outright. Pay off credit card in full every month.

PedrosPony · 18/02/2021 07:07

£470k which is two mortgages. No loans or overdrafts, cc paid in full every month.

Backtobacktheyfacedeachother · 18/02/2021 07:08

Mortgage around £78,000 and one payment left on a £10,000 loan - in one week the final payment will be made and then it will be clear. However, big structural job being done on the house in two weeks which will wipe out every penny we have so, if anything else happens in the next 6 months, it will have to be paid by credit card.

BakedTattie · 18/02/2021 07:09

None. Own my house outright and don’t use credit cards. I’ve got savings. I’m 34 but have been very lucky.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 18/02/2021 07:10

Just the mortgage.

I owe money on credit cards but I have about 10x the amount in savings.

SimonJT · 18/02/2021 07:11

My student loan was paid off last year, so just my mortgage which is £525k.

I do buy most things on my credit card, but I pay it off in full each month so I tend not to class it as debt in the same way.

LakieLady · 18/02/2021 07:11

None. Mortgage paid off and some savings, if I use my credit card, I pay it off in full before they start charging interest.

I live very modestly though.

PolarnOPirate · 18/02/2021 07:11

God, including mortgage.... no idea!! About 25 years worth of mortgage. Yikes! Nothing other than that!

Meredithgrey1 · 18/02/2021 07:11

Mortgage of about £250k with DH.

I have no idea how much is left on my student loan, just that I’m still paying it. Ive only been paying it for 8 years though so there’s a fair amount left.

No loans or cc.

Woebegonad · 18/02/2021 07:12

None. Mortgage paid off, cc paid in full each month.

I live by the Micawber principle.

yearinyearout · 18/02/2021 07:13

None. But then we are middle aged so mortgage is paid off.

yearinyearout · 18/02/2021 07:16

I owe money on credit cards but I have about 10x the amount in savings.

When you say you owe money on credit cards, do you mean you use them for day to day expenses and pay off the balance each month, or you're paying interest on them? If that's the case it makes no sense

fairydustandpixies · 18/02/2021 07:19

Nothing. Mortgage paid, don't own a credit card and have no loans.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 18/02/2021 07:22

Me personally - just student loan (no idea how much, am SAHM so not paying it) and half the mortgage (will get statement in a couple of weeks but I think about £120000 or so left).

DH has student loan (not a huge amount left as he earns well), his half of the mortgage and £31000 in credit cards and a bank loan.

He had a spending problem and now attends weekly DA meetings. We have paid off £10000 since the summer and with his recent pay rise should have it all paid off in about 18mo. I now keep a close eye on his credit report.

Once it is paid off I hope to never have any debt other than mortgage or student loans ever again.

kowari · 18/02/2021 07:22

None. Had a credit card at 18, got to the point where all my earnings were to pay off the card each month (so no interest). Paid that off and have never been in debt since, even as a single parent on benefits. Would love a mortgage but couldn't get one on my single income.

OrigamiOwl · 18/02/2021 07:22

Mortgage only. I have a credit card but always pay it off every month (I have it to collect the points!) so I don't see that as a debt.

Aprilx · 18/02/2021 07:24

I paid the mortgage off seven years ago and CC paid in full each month.

I have a student loan as I did a masters a couple of years ago as a mature student, but I am happy for that to be repaid via salary deductions in due course.

Crikeycroc · 18/02/2021 07:25

In GBP I have about £10k student loan debt and as a couple we owe £255k on the mortgage.

poblwcymru · 18/02/2021 07:28

About £200k including mortgage but house is worth £400k. I'm 33 but I think I'm very fortunate- most of my friends have much bigger mortgages/higher LTV or don't own their own property yet.

I don't think MN is representative of the norm.

Mummadeze · 18/02/2021 07:28

£4,000 credit card debt. Nothing else. Am not worried about it though.

MaverickDanger · 18/02/2021 07:29

About 300k on mortgage
4K ish student loan
£200 currently on credit card

DH has no debt except the mortgage with me. We have about 400k between us in savings & investments.

AuntieMarys · 18/02/2021 07:30

Zero. Own my house, credit card is paid off in full ( and John Lewis vouchers earned on it).

marriednotdead · 18/02/2021 07:32

None. Never had a mortgage to start with.
