Men peeing. Why so loud

wishywashywoowoo70 · 17/02/2021 20:09

So I've tried Googling this with no luck.

My teenager pees really loudly. Straight into the water like a thoroughbred race horse.
You can hear him 2 rooms away

Are men meant to pee against the side or is this normal.

It might be me mind because I hate people hearing me pee.

Height.

Sitting down, no noise.

CoRhona · 17/02/2021 20:13

Tell him to put some paper down first?

Happenchance · 17/02/2021 20:15

It's not just in your mind. This has slowly been driving me mad throughout lockdown! It doesn't help that my housemate doesn't close the toilet door Confused

SlumMumBum · 17/02/2021 20:15

While we've been living in each other's pockets 24/7, I've noticed that my husband does this. YANBU. It's so disgusting.

KaMai · 17/02/2021 20:53

Men can't help it, the extra hight and, don't know how to put it- the stream is more focused??!!
They can sit down and pee or pee on the porcelain to reduce the noise if so inclined, I'd not just seems to be physical I'm afraid!
Source- 20+ years outnumbered at least three men/boys to me (even all our pets are boys, I'm on my own here and it's a wonder I don't out the toilet seat back up when I'm down by now...)

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 17/02/2021 20:56

Despite what they seem to think, it is possible for them to pee sitting down. Ideally they should be taught to pee sitting down when an actual toilet is available and to pee standing up when outdoors, because they can.

Theluggage15 · 17/02/2021 21:00

Ha! It’s so annoying. The weird thing is that my husband will comment on how loud our son is and when I tell him that he is just as bad, he seems astonished. Never changes!

QueenVictoriasteapot · 17/02/2021 21:01

My DH often sits to pee but equally often stands up, in whatever position he’s decided on he always leaves the bloody door wide open which fills me with rage..

cortex10 · 17/02/2021 21:05

I've recently had to remind DH to make sure the downstairs cloakroom door is fully closed to avoid background 'noise' when I'm on work zoom calls upstairs 😬

Don't forget there are some men who cannot sit to pee, because their parts hang in the water.
RogueV · 17/02/2021 21:20

It’s the distance

I have to stand on a stool for the same reason.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 17/02/2021 21:30

I wondered if boys aren't taught to wee against the porcelain. It's SO bloody loud. 😂

Tomcullenisahero · 17/02/2021 21:36

I know! Surely its not just their height, I feel like they squeeze so it flies out like a jet power washer. It's a pee, not a competition ffs.

TheDoctorDances · 17/02/2021 21:46

If I’m in the outside, I can hear DP peeing from about 100ft away if the bathroom window is open. Bleugh.

If you wee on the side rather than in the water urine sprays everywhere. A mans urethra causes urine to ‘spiral’, this means urine leaves faster and in a more defined stream essentially there is more pressure, compared to a womans urethra which doesn’t cause the ‘spiral’. Men can’t use their abdominal muscles to force wee out unless they’re sat down, so we can’t force it out to make the wee come out faster etc if we are stood up.
TheRhythmlessMan · 17/02/2021 21:55

Omg this drives me nuts (excuse the pun).
Men have no self awareness or consideration for the rest of the household.

Or they just like the idea that if they have to get up in the middle of the night, they should make everyone else feel like they have to get up to pee too.

There should be some sort of guidelines in the national curriculum.

Serin · 17/02/2021 21:58

It's actually harder than you'd think. Not just to be quiet but also to aim straight.
I bought a shewee just before lockdown, when I thought I might book a summer festival. First thing I tried was a stand up man wee, it was bloody tricky. I no longer moan if they sound like a waterfall or spill a drop (as long as they clean up).

Doesn't a male spray aim better than a female?
Horseshoe5 · 17/02/2021 22:01

SimonJT, l never realised why men pee like they do. Interesting 😁

Simon. Ahhh makes sense.
Still bloody minging though
He has no awareness of people hearing or just doesn't give a shit.

It's deliberate.

Call for divorce.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 17/02/2021 22:21

Because we can!

This is a revelation!! Seriously!!! I have now learnt my Fact Of The Day.
