To keep my milk in the carton?

MagicMatilda · 16/02/2021 19:59

I use my milk from the plastic carton/bottle it comes in however recently I keep seeing people are decanting their milk into jugs and storing it that way in the fridge.

Is this the proper way to keep your milk?

Only if you like creating washing up! Grin

It's fine in the carton.

dementedpixie · 16/02/2021 20:01

I have never decanted my milk or know anyone who does so

Unanananana · 16/02/2021 20:02

Never heard of this. Sounds barmy!

Happytentoes · 16/02/2021 20:03

Much rather have it in a carton with a narrow opening than a jug. Sitting in a jug gives me the ick.

Gcnq · 16/02/2021 20:03

Eh?
That is not normal (decanting)

What on earth is the reasoning behind that idea?

LemonadeBudget · 16/02/2021 20:04

I decant into a glass jug BUT before you judge me as a total ponce Blush in my defence I do it because the jug has a nice thin spout which makes it so much easier to add just a splash of the right amount to the tea cup.

We all hate milky tea and pouring from the 4 pint bottle can result in too much.

GintyMcGinty · 16/02/2021 20:07

Never heard of decanting milk.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 16/02/2021 20:08

No. Waste of time and extra washing.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 16/02/2021 20:10

I only decant milk if we have visitors and I shall be doing a tray of tea, or a sit down breakfast with lots of choices!

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 16/02/2021 20:12

My gran used to do it into a blue Tupperware milk jug that sealed both sides. But there was always issues about using the “old” milk in the milk jug and not mixing with the new milk from the bottle.

I have no space in my life.

Is it an insta-lifestyle thing...?

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/02/2021 20:12

keep in carton

LegendDairy · 16/02/2021 20:14

I use a milk jug when I've made a pot of tea. Chill the jug in the fridge and it keeps the milk cool whilst it's out on the table.

Nohomemadecandles · 16/02/2021 20:16

No

DartmoorChef · 16/02/2021 20:16

My mum used to keep milk in a jug by the kettle. She hated putting cold milk into her tea. It had to be room temperature.

Armi · 16/02/2021 20:18

I use a milk jug when making a pot of tea or breakfast. We were brought up that it was the height of slovenliness to have a milk bottle on the table. (Relative who thought this would have an idea of what proper slovenliness is if she were still alive and took one look in my cupboards.)

DuckonaBike · 16/02/2021 20:19

Who are the people you keep seeing doing this? Have you been spending time with my mother?

JemimaTiggywinkle · 16/02/2021 20:20

My parents have a little milk jug for the table if they’re doing a fancy brunch... but the milk in the fridge stays in the bottle.
Why would anyone keep milk in the fridge in a jug? Do these jugs have lids??

SplendidSuns1000 · 16/02/2021 20:21

When I met DH he decanted milk into a jug too! I've never known anyone else who does it other than when serving tea. The milk stays fresher in its original bottle rather than in an open jug in the fridge. I'd only decant if I had to buy a 6 pint bottle as they seem impossible to pour from.

StormyInTheNorth · 16/02/2021 20:21

I use one. Mainly because I hate pouring into a cup from a 6 pint bottle. It spills. Also, I drink a lot of coffee. I worry about my fridge seal.

It is only for coffee. Cereal milk or a drink of milk comes from the bottle. Anything less than ice cold for those sends me squeamish.

Clymene · 16/02/2021 20:21

When you say 'keep seeing people' do you mean on Instagram? Because that's not real you know

SummerHouse · 16/02/2021 20:22

Unless it's your breast milk, I vote for carton.

SnackSizeRaisin · 16/02/2021 20:24

Ours comes in glass bottles - problem solved!

Boringnamechanging · 16/02/2021 20:25

I keep it in the carton but have a milk topper from lakeland to help pour the drop I want in my tea.

user1468105798 · 16/02/2021 20:26

My mother decants her milk into glass bottles in the fridge. Believe this started when she stopped having a delivery from the milkman delivery but preferred the look/taste from the glass bottle. She has several other quirks so i just let her crack on!

MagicMatilda · 16/02/2021 20:34

Phew good to know I’m not committing awful milk storage crimes!

Yes, guilty...seen on Instagram Blush
