Valentines presents?

Yabu - it’s naff
Yanbu - we like to spoil eachother

Also, if you do buy presents, what sort of things do you buy?

I’ve got my partner an Oodie not the official one but a £30 nice one to go with the one he got me for Christmas lol. I’ll get him some Valentines themed choc from M&S and a card. Job done.
This is our second. He spoilt me last year but I’ll be happy with just a red rose and a card lol.

Lamentations · 09/02/2021 08:46

YABU here but each to their own. I've heard of people buying clothes for each other in the past - WTF?

I'd also do away with Mother's/Father's Day and wedding anniversaries if I had my way. Just another bit of work for me to do.

Ronnii · 09/02/2021 08:47

My partner and I arnt very romantic, I might send something to my sister tho, chocolate maybe

AdultierAdult · 09/02/2021 08:47

Oh it's definitely naff but sometimes it's nice to indulge in these things which add a bit of variety to the normal rhythm of family life. Won't be doing gifts but will get some champers and have supper, sorry dinner (apparently I'm not allowed to say that here anymore), after kids go to bed which will be a treat because our lives are THAT boring now Grin

Mrgrinch · 09/02/2021 08:48

We don't do 'presents' as such, but he always buys me a beautiful bunch of roses and we do cards.

OhAnotherNameChange · 09/02/2021 08:48

We just do cards, after Christmas it's then my birthday, Valentines, shortly followed by our anniversary. We'd constantly be swapping gifts!

DP does always cook a nice meal for Valentines and our anniversary is always steak and chips. I value food above all other things 😁

user1493413286 · 09/02/2021 08:50

We spend about £10-15 on small gifts like posh chocolate or a mug or something random I know my DH has been wanting. I like any excuse for a celebration though

Lyricallie · 09/02/2021 08:51

We do presents we like to spoil each other. Nice excuse.

I've bought him some gloves, new slippers, a book and some macarons. So nothing mental. He usually gets me flowers, card and something extra.

He's definitely the romantic one and would be upset if I suggested not doing valentine's.

In normal times we'd go out on a date night. However this year we're getting a restaurant meal delivery.

Trisolaris · 09/02/2021 08:53

We do cards and then spend on a nice meal and champagne rather than presents.

This year we are getting a delivery from Cote at Home.

Lindy2 · 09/02/2021 08:55

I've ordered a special brunch to be delivered. The caterers are going to put some valentine's items in with the brunch like chocolate hearts etc.

It's more than I'd normally arrange but we've had an awful time with Covid in our household recently and I want something nice to cheer us all up.

Nicolastuffedone · 09/02/2021 09:02

We do cards, nice meal and a small gift...we’re lucky to have the relationship we have, we appreciate each other every day, and on Valentine’s Day, we just make it extra special!

firstimemamma · 09/02/2021 09:05

Yabu.

KatyClaire · 09/02/2021 09:07

I don’t think it’s naff - I understand making the most of an opportunity to celebrate! We don’t personally bother because we decided it was more hassle than it was worth for us, but understand why others do.

SimonJT · 09/02/2021 09:09

Oh it’s naff, but we like naff, we do buy each other something, but we don’t spend a lot of money.

I’ve got him a nice bottle of wine and a t-shirt, so things I would occasionally buy him through the year.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 09/02/2021 09:09

It is a bit naff but February is so bloody miserable that it lightens it up for us Grin. I’ve just had major surgery so poor DP is doing everything - I’ve indulged him with a hamper from Fortnums as a thank you. I wouldn’t normally do this but I’m running him ragged just now.

FuckyouCovid21 · 09/02/2021 09:15

I've already had my presents from DP, I received a leather box containing 50 embossed cards with 50 reasons why he loves me...and a pair of Samsung ear buds lol.

I haven't seen him since Feb last year due to Covid, he's in Australia and I'm in the UK which is hard, but we send each other gifts all the time

Maryberryscake · 09/02/2021 09:17

Cards and he’ll get me a bunch of red roses and make a nice meal. The roses are a result of training 😂 as he used to think flowers died and were a waste of money. We will get our ds a card and some chocs too

Butterbeeeen · 09/02/2021 09:20

We have never done Valentines. DH is a bit of a comedian so often makes me a card which is priceless. Controversially though we do buy a card and small gift (think chocolates) for our DC.

An0n0n0n · 09/02/2021 09:20

Stuff that! We don't do them anymore and it's nice to not have he extra admin burden of sorting a card and present.

Sorry to be boring!

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 09/02/2021 09:21

agree we need a third option: It's absolutely naff and unnecessary but this year I'm in because everything's so boring and bleak.
I've got DH a shirt, but nicer than he'd get for himself. Might use it as an excuse to have a takeaway as well.

TinyCake · 09/02/2021 09:24

In ordered him a sweet hamper well in advance and a card. He announced at the weekend that he wasn't bothering this year so I'm currently munching my way through the sweets.

This is hilarious 😂
Glitterinthegrey · 09/02/2021 09:26

It's naff, no doubt; DH and I usually send each other cards but with heavy irony, and don't usually do gifts or anything, or have a special meal.
This year, though... well, it's all been a bit shit, hasn't it. So I've ordered him some beer and his favourite posh chocolates, he's put up with a lot from me lately.

OneForTheJourney · 09/02/2021 09:26

@sociallydistained can you share where you got this from please? The real ones seem so expensive

PatchworkElmer · 09/02/2021 09:28

I’ve ordered DH a giant cookie and paid for him to do a virtual race.
