To think you can't get pregnant this way?

MakkaPakka84 · 02/02/2021 20:03

DH and I have been having leakage problems with condoms - not from the top - the condom didn't split - but slightly from the bottom, near the opening. I feel like a teenager for asking this, obviously I know that no contraception method is 100% safe, but am I right in thinking that it would be very unfortunate to get pregnant this way? A small amount of sperm would have to find its way in and then travel up all the way to the cervix - not impossible, but very unlikely right? You always hear of condoms breaking but never of leakage...

It's unlikely, but not impossible.

SummerHouse · 02/02/2021 20:08

Unlikely. Possible but unlikely.

warmandtoasty2day · 02/02/2021 20:08

can't you use something else if you don't want a pregnancy ?

Lougle · 02/02/2021 20:10

There are slim fit condoms available, which might help? It only takes one sperm.

CovidCakeConundrum · 02/02/2021 20:13

How odd! Maybe buy skinny penis condoms rather than risk it.

Bit ick...I would worry about the "leakage" getting on you and then getting on the end of his penis and then making quite far inside of you iyswim.

Ifonly86 · 02/02/2021 20:14

It’s still possible although unlikely once it’s exposed to air. They shouldn’t be leaking from there though, it sounds like they aren’t being put on correctly or perhaps the wrong size?

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/02/2021 20:15

Is he buying the right size? Sadly most men think they are larger than they really are and buy condoms a size or two bigger than they need to.

Also is he leaving a bit at the tip? The condom should have a bit left empty at the tip when it’s on his penis and then be nice and tight around the shaft.

Ffsffsffsffsffs · 02/02/2021 20:15

Of course you can get pregnant this way.

One sperm escapes and is transfered onto you, he fumbles about a bit and it gets onto the outside of the condom, next thing it's inside you and bang, baby.

Get the right size johnnies.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/02/2021 20:15

All it takes is one to reach the mark. Of course you can get pregnant.

Minky37 · 02/02/2021 20:17

It’s possible I guess as it only takes 1 sperm to make it.
Why is the condom leaking from the bottom??

Dollywilde · 02/02/2021 20:18

Yeah, I was always taught that you should pinch the end before rolling it down so that there’s space for the sperm to go into.

AmandaHugenkiss · 02/02/2021 20:19

100% possible. Without being too detailed, it leaks on one stroke, and gets in your skin around your entrance. Next stroke, it gets from your skin on to the tip or the length of the condom. By stroke 4 or 5 it’s right inside you.

BeneficiaryMadness · 02/02/2021 20:19

He needs a smaller size. I wouldn’t like to have that conversation though!

FelicityBeedle · 02/02/2021 20:21

It probably reduces the chances but still perfectly possible to get pregnant like that. Definitely need a smaller size. And probably a better form of contraception full stop

CallistoSol · 02/02/2021 20:21

Of course you can! How can you not know this? If you don't want a pregnancy you really need to double up on your contraception immediately.

Naticus · 02/02/2021 20:24

@CallistoSol

And we don't mean wearing 2 at once!!

How long ago OP, if you really don't want to get pregnant MAP might be a good idea?

unmarkedbythat · 02/02/2021 20:26

Unlikely but certainly possible. If you don't want to be pregnant you need to get condoms that fit or use other methods.

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/02/2021 20:27

@Minky37
Why is the condom leaking from the bottom??

Two causes of this. Most common is he’s bought condoms that are too big for his penis. Men seem to think they are bigger than they are very often. The second most common reason is not leaving a bit of empty condom at the tip when he puts it on his penis. This means there is no space for the sperm and so it just squeezes out down the sides and out the bottom.

Ileflottante · 02/02/2021 20:29

Godimabitch · 02/02/2021 20:38

I would think that any sperm that leaked at the base of his penis, would be transferred to you then moved further in with him thrusting (sorry) so perhaps not as unlikely as you'd like to think.

It could be that he needs a bigger or smaller size tbh, maybe try a few and see what works best?

RhubarbTea · 02/02/2021 20:44

It's still possible. But I don't get why it's happening, after he comes you should have him grab the condom around the base and pull out right away, that's just sensible. Otherwise as he goes soft semen can leak down and out the end. If they're leaking even before that, is he pinching the teat bit to remove air before putting them on?
Failing that, yeah he needs a smaller size I guess. But yes you can get pregnant so perhaps choose another method if condoms aren't working for you (and you don't want to tell him he may have a small knob...).

GoodbyeH · 02/02/2021 20:55

He needs smaller condoms. They shouldn't leak. And it could get you pregnant.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/02/2021 20:56

Yeah I would agree that he is wearing the wrong size. If you have a good relationship then you should be able to have the conversation, depends how sensitive he is I guess.

MakkaPakka84 · 02/02/2021 21:03

Thanks everyone for your input. I know, this all doesn't sound very sensible, but to give you a bit of background:

  1. We are only using condoms, as I am done with hormonal contraception and it wouldn't be the end of the world if we had baby n. 2 now - although I would ideally like to wait because of the pandemic and ideally move on from my current job;

  2. The problem only arises when we don't have sex for quite a while. I think this leads to more sperm and therefore leakage. We do pinch the tip, not always holding the condom pulling out though, but we don't wait for him to go soft. I will look into different sizes, DH is average but the box says large - he claims it's the only one available on Ocado, I am smelling a rat! Hmm

  3. @AmandaHugenkiss your explanation makes total sense. I was trying to fool myself obviously Blush I am 37 and was thinking "surely not like this!", but then DD was conceived on our first month trying, so there is that as well Hmm

SunsetGirl · 02/02/2021 21:12

Defintely a rat! I just checked and there's 5 different brands each with different styles/sizes...
