Scented candles AIBU

Afternoon all, AIBU to think that reasonably priced scented candles that actually smell don’t exist?

I’ve had expensive ones as gifts (Jo Malone, Jo Loves, Neom etc) but can’t afford them on an ongoing basis.

I like them on in the evenings to make me feel cosy and relaxed but is there a brand that actually has a scent that you can smell once it’s burning that would require me to sell a kidney? Wink

I was given a gift from Callan candles of wax melts for my diffuser. Wow, they smell amazing and the scent lasts.

Just for absolute power the Lily-flame candles in tins are very strong in my experience.

Price's candles are nice. I use the tea lights as they burn to the edge quickly so you can burn them for a short time. Also yankee tea lights. I use them as air freshener in the bathroom with the window open then when I next go in the bathroom I can smell a lovely candle smell. The small woodwick candles also burn to the edge quickly

PeppermintSoda · 23/01/2021 10:14

Also Shearer and Bolsius tea lights

@ellendegeneres

I bought from a seller I found on tiktok and bought from her through Etsy. Her candles smell insanely amazing I can’t begin to describe. The first went through a bit too quick on the wick so I am using the rest in my wax melt burner and even the postie this morning mentioned how lovely my home smelled just from me opening the door to receive a parcel so I’m ordering more ASAP to stock up!
Can you put a link to the shop up? Sounds lovely!

Pecksniffs in tkmaxx!

bottleofbeer · 23/01/2021 17:44

Not read all the thread but if you have a candle that doesn't smell very strong then scoop some wax out and put the eax it in an oil burner.

bottleofbeer · 23/01/2021 17:44

Wax, too 😁

Essence of Harris - discovered on holiday last year. The pink pomelo (Huisinus) is in my bathroom, and smells lovely, despite not being lit. The Horgabost (ginger & lemon) is lush too.

The other one is Valentte (mentioned up thread) who I discovered at the Ideal Home Show a couple of years ago, abs have continually re-purchased (also as well-received gifts). I love love love the white neroli and lemon - been using the hand cream too, and keep sniffing myself!! Their oil diffusers are great too. I bought my mum the lemongrass & Rosemary, which she adores. You can smell it as soon as you walk in. Their gift boxes are really good value - 3 items for £25.

These are both small businesses too, who do mail order, so really good to be able to support them in these challenging times.

Busy Bee Candles the candles and wax melts are really scented and not wildly expensive.
TK Maxx also have some great ones

Cleverpolly3 · 23/01/2021 18:21

@BrimfulOfBaba

I've started buying Sainsbury's ones! Lovely and not ridiculously priced. Their rhubarb and elderflower one is gorgeous.
It is really nice The sandalwood and amber one is absolutely gorgeous too.
Cleverpolly3 · 23/01/2021 18:22

Asda do a lemon verbena and thyme candle which was really nice. It burnt well and evenly and left a lovely clean but not too clean scent in the room. Only £4 too

BuddingAuthor · 23/01/2021 18:23

Look up Scentsy.
Wax melts (& very pretty warmers) which smell amazing and fill your home (& are safe!)
I switched and next went back.

lajoliemuse.com/
I love their candles, paraben free & soy based. They smell lush

GuyFawkesDay · 23/01/2021 18:55

I don't mind the Aldi blackberry and bay one.

Sainsbury's are lovely too for the price.

White company mint one is still my fave though 🙈

Murmurur
My Etsy seller is Apothecary Moonchild. I see her candles are a lot more expensive than aldi etc but the wax melts last really well.
These look gorgeous! Just ordered Be Kind and Happy Soul smile Cant wait to get them!

Same here! I’ve ordered Free your mind and Be Kind, unwind. 10% discount and free delivery too! 😊

I make my own soy candles now and its so easy to do. The thing I like is that I can try out lots of different designer fragrances. I found this site www.scentssoapsandcandles.co.uk that have loads of different ones. I treat myself each month and buy a different one. Better still the also have fragrances for Christmas. Now I don't need to buy candles - I just make them myself.

brokenbiscuitsx · 10/08/2021 10:52

I’ve bought loads of wax melts from Etsy sellers and they are good value and smell amazing! One wax melt lasts several burns!

Happy36 · 10/08/2021 10:59

I buy Diptyque; they're really nice and long-lasting. The fragrances are not strong/overpowering but certainly noticeable. As a PP said, burn for 15-20 mins. then extinguish and it scents the room.

LittleGwyneth · 10/08/2021 11:35

Aldi knock offs are amazing - I don't buy Jo Malone or Jo Loves anymore. Yankee smell terrible IMO.

hulahooper2 · 10/08/2021 11:45

Shearers candles based in Glasgow are great , and do online

Newbie8365 · 10/08/2021 11:47

I love Aldi candles too! Prefer them over Jo Malone ones!

DancesWithTortoises · 10/08/2021 11:49

Woodwick candles are lovely.

beinglikedisoverrated · 10/08/2021 11:53

Can you still buy the ( pot?) Clay rings that you sprinkle oil on and place on a lightbulb? As the lightbulb warms up the oil scents the air. Has one years ago and this post just reminded me of it.

anna114young · 10/08/2021 12:00

Try "Clive's Candles" best smelling candles I have ever used. And they smell all the way down not just like the top 1cm haha.
