To think, no BBC, Phil Spector was not 'flawed'

He was a convicted murderer with a long history of violence, coercive control of women and intimidation with firearms.

I get he's just died and his reputation as one of the world's greatest producer is beyond question, but come on BBC, you're massively minimising his crimes.

Agree. He’s revolting

gingganggooleywotsit · 17/01/2021 19:48

Yes really tactless choice of words there.

Doggybiccys · 17/01/2021 19:48

FFS. Typical. Being a deranged abuser and murderer is not being ‘flawed’.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 17/01/2021 19:50

There is a thread about this on feminism board, where some Rolling Stone statingbthat his legacy as 'marred' by a murder conviction.

He was a fucking violent murderer ffs.

VienneseWhirligig · 17/01/2021 19:50

Definitely. Some murderers can be insanely talented, but it doesn't mitigate the fact they have committed monstrous crimes. Making their talent the main descriptor, with a nod to their crime, totally minimises it.

FrankButchersDickieBow · 17/01/2021 19:51

Sorry, that sounds like gibberish, but I hope you can understand it.

StillWeRise · 17/01/2021 19:53

so depressing
no wonder we are where we are

sqirrelfriends · 17/01/2021 19:54

Yup, I saw that headline and was shocked. It's insulting for the family of the woman he murdered.

MorganKitten · 17/01/2021 19:54

Abused all his partners
Abused his children
Killed someone

The abuse was well known while he was working in the industry - with fellow abusers Ike Turner and John Lennon. He held female singers in ridiculous contracts and abused power over them.

alexdgr8 · 17/01/2021 19:55

yes, flawed sounds like he was a creative genius who unfortunately also took drugs, couldn't look after himself, or got into scrapes like oliver reid, ie as if the harm done was mostly to himself.
whereas in this case the fact that he died in prison for homicide is kinda relevant...

BlueThistles · 17/01/2021 19:56

He was utter scum

RIP LANA

RickiTarr · 17/01/2021 19:57

“Violent” would have done the job.

Calmandmeasured1 · 17/01/2021 20:02

The BBC have also reported it under other headlines such as:
Phil Spector: Pop producer jailed for murder dies at 81
Maybe the inappropriateness of it was pointed out to them?

Seventytwo · 17/01/2021 20:02

Agree it’s a completely inappropriate headline and I’d be very surprised if they don’t amend it pretty quickly. Clearly written/edited by someone who didn’t bother to do much research on the man.
