To think, no BBC, Phil Spector was not 'flawed'

He was a convicted murderer with a long history of violence, coercive control of women and intimidation with firearms.

I get he's just died and his reputation as one of the world's greatest producer is beyond question, but come on BBC, you're massively minimising his crimes.

Yup, I saw that headline and was shocked. It's insulting for the family of the woman he murdered.

My sympathy is with her family.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 17/01/2021 20:06

I saw this earlier, didn't know who he was and expected 'flawed' to mean he had died in a drugs overdose or something! I asked my partner what he thought the 'flaw' might be, I can tell you now reader, murder was not his first guess.

Unescorted · 17/01/2021 20:06

He was a scab end.

Lana Jean Clarkson - actress who's life was brought to a brutal end but some bellend who fiddled with nobs.

Would love to see their take on other similarly 'flawed' individuals.

Loving but strict dad, Fred West.
Hard working but thorough GP, Harold Shipman.

And 'tortured soul', 'tormented genius' Angry

BoogieFeet · 17/01/2021 20:34

Agreed. Makes it sound like he was a top bloke who had below par table manners instead of the abusive murderer he was.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/01/2021 20:34

YANBU at all :(

Wishitsnows · 17/01/2021 20:36

Agreed he was a murderer. But as it was only a woman he murdered its just a flaw?! Absolutely disgusting of the BBC. The poor victim and her family.

jessym · 17/01/2021 20:37

There is a superb obituary of Spector on the Torygraph website, written by Neil McCormick. He captures well the dichotomy of the appalling murderer of Lana Clarkson, and the genius creator of You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling being the same person.

RIP, Lana.

HappyFlamingo · 17/01/2021 20:40

YANBU at all. The BBC should be ashamed of this headline Angry

EternalOptimist7 · 17/01/2021 20:43

Morgankitten who is Turner? And why was Lennon an abuser?

morgankitten who is Turner? And why was Lennon an abuser?

FrankButchersDickieBow · 17/01/2021 20:50

Ike Turner. Tina Turner's ex husband. She had to flee from him in the middle of the night to escape his physical and emotional abuse.

billy1966 · 17/01/2021 20:53

BBC are a disgrace over the years with their denials and cover ups.
I wouldn't expect any more from them.

Watch John Lydon of the Sex Pistols speaking to Piers Morgan about Jimmy Savile.

Utterl dishonourable organisation imo.

SirSamuelVimes · 17/01/2021 20:56

The BBC don't even bother to hide their contempt for women these days, do they?

KathleenTurnerOverdrive · 17/01/2021 20:58

And why was Lennon an abuser?

Beat his first wife.

My uncle knew Cliff Michelmore from the RAF and when they opened the Wood Lane studios, Cliff invited him down for a tour of the building and to go out to lunch.
So, they toured the nice shiny new BBC building and got down to the basement studios. Cliff said that they couldn't go in them as they were reserved for showing pornographic films at lunchtime for all the shining lights of the 60s to watch.
Not much has changed at the BBC I imagine, they all think that they're bomb proof.
As did Saville.

VestaTilley · 17/01/2021 21:17

Agree, but the BBC’s reporting on anything to do with women is absolutely dire.

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/01/2021 21:20

Not all women. Only the old-fashioned XX ones.
StillCoughingandLaughing · 17/01/2021 21:21

I also thought ‘flawed’ was something of an understatement. It reminded me of when Kobe Bryant died and the initial articles all lauded him as a basketball genius... a few hasty edits later and it was ‘Oh yeah, and he paid off a woman who accused him of rape too’.

Buzzer3555 · 17/01/2021 21:22

Totally agree

BertTheBeetle · 17/01/2021 21:25

Agreed.

peak2021 · 17/01/2021 21:44

Now referred to as 'Phil Spector: Pop producer jailed for murder dies at 81' which is a bit better.
