To think, no BBC, Phil Spector was not 'flawed'

He was a convicted murderer with a long history of violence, coercive control of women and intimidation with firearms.

I get he's just died and his reputation as one of the world's greatest producer is beyond question, but come on BBC, you're massively minimising his crimes.

I’m so glad someone else saw this. The notification once I clicked onto the article made it disappear and the title has now been changed.

What a thoroughly outrageous way to refer to him.

The BBC is weird these days. I don’t think it has many journalists any more, it often acts as a mouthpiece for Stonewall, has an odd obsession with reporting routine but salacious crime like murders and paedophiles on the front page, with far more important and interesting stories relegated to the science/politics pages. And they illustrate almost all their articles with a picture of a troubled looking woman.

Am curious who works there.

I didn't realise this thread was here - I posted an identical one on the Feminism board.

It's typical of the misogyny of the BBC

Appalling. I emailed a complaint, fwiw.

This is the link so you can complain too:

The beeb is really going downhill.

They seem to have changed it

Hmm wasn't keen on him getting as much airtime in tonight's news as he did. The reporting was weird, it should have been a short announcement, but instead it seemed to be a glowing report of his "wall of sound" and then "oh and he killed a woman" but isn't it marvellous all these hits he produced?

DH and I were watching it and we both agreed it wasn't the right reporting.

TheVanguardSix · 17/01/2021 22:53

That guy was just bad to the bone. His 'wall of sound' redeems him but shouldn't. Read about his wife, Ronnie Spector and her life with him. It's just an insane read. The guy was just so dangerous.

I've been thinking this too, so many of their stories are accompanied by a picture of random woman, usually age 20s or 30s, definitely pre-menopause.

The news site reads more and more like an upmarket version of Take a Break, all human interest and no depth in the politics and business stories.

I also reported it. It will be interesting to see their response.

Brownie points to The Guardian on this one.
