To feel sad that there are people like this around?

My DH went to the supermarket this afternoon. As he was walking up to get a trolley he saw a woman just about to put one back. He offered to take the trolley and give her £1 which she accepted. When he went to put the trolley back afterwards there was no £1 in it!

Perhaps she forgot she’d been given a free trolley and thought she was being honest, or perhaps she’s a chancer, who knows!

She probably got half way home before she remembered she'd not put a coin in. I've done it. I was mortified, but of course couldn't do anything about it!

I agree with others. In terms of probability, it's far more likely she forgot she hadn't put a quid in rather than she was trying to scam your husband. If you're hard up on moment at the moment, I feel for you as even the pennies matter. If not though, then it's not even worth a second thought, never mind a thread.

Smeone once have a ‘£’ for my trolley and I later discovered it was a Euro...Luckily I have a great need for those so was not bothered 😀

She probably hovers around all day making her millions off scamming people out of trolley money.

Or she had an absent minded second and forgot.

I can't say it makes me feel sad that there are people in the world who occasionally forget stuff tbh.

I usually only remember I've not paid for a trolley because I'm usually disorganised about having a £ coin with me, so delighted on occasions I get a "free" trolley.

Usually avoid giving people the £ and get one from the trolley station when I do have a coin and a large shop - but when I'm hopefully proffering two 50ps......

How would she have been able to get a trolley with no £1 in it?
Fortunately our local Tesco and Morrisons don't require £ coins.

I try to avoid all stores that charge for trolleys now as I never carry cash, only M&S here want cash for parking and more for a trolley. If it was a rare visit when I had gone to the effort of digging out a £1 or 2 I would be mighty peeved to find there was one when I took it back. This is the same as how I hate that M&$ deduct the parking fee from your bill not give you a coin to use next time

However as a busy person forgetting if I had used a coin is something that I would have done when I did carry cash pre-COVID.

I'd sell this story to take a break/that's life mag and have a pic of your DH with a sad face stood next to the trolley pointing at the lock wear the quid goes.
