Is anyone else mind numbingly bored?

Beachybeach · 11/01/2021 20:24

I’ve lost a family member to covid, we’ve been on the bloody breadline for months and working monotonous jobs for just as long.

But more than anything I’m just so bloody bored.

I come home from work, eat dinner, sometimes have a soak in the bath, maybe do some chores then go to bed early as there’s nothing else to do.

Anyone else feel the same way? I feel like I’m about to go insane at any moment.

Yes, I’m shielded so it’s just day after day after day looking at the same walls with no distraction, no motivation.

I’m really sorry for your loss.

TaraR2020 · 11/01/2021 20:33

Yup

Dontsayyouloveme · 11/01/2021 20:33

Quite the opposite! I don’t have time to go to the toilet hardly!

TaraR2020 · 11/01/2021 20:35

Fat fingers..!

I'm so sorry you've lost a family member and are taking such a hit personally due to covid. We'll come out the other side.

Have you gone down the new hobby/skill route yet?

YES!!! I have ran out of even the mundane chores now, I come home from work, cook dinner, wash up, do a load of washing, watch rubbish tv, go to bed.....repeat. I am trying to think positive about it though, when we are all back to normal (thinking positive about that too) we will be back to be run of our feet again and be wishing for a quiet time

Chocolatehasruinedmylife · 11/01/2021 20:41

Also, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one Flowers

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/01/2021 20:45

Yes. I'm actually glad I can't work from home, going out to work breaks up the day at least.

Darbs76 · 11/01/2021 20:46

Sorry for your loss. I haven’t had time to be bored, I’m working at home 6 days a week, cook dinner, exercise, walk the dog, bed, start over. I watch Netflix when I get time, got so many jobs to do

CrotchBurn · 11/01/2021 20:48

Actually what's concerning me is how little I do, and how little that bores me 🤷‍♀️

MsVestibule · 11/01/2021 20:51

Fortunately I have always had a very high boredom threshold, which really helps! I'm working 3 days, studying, looking after 2 teens, do most of the domestic stuff so I enjoy having more spare time to surf the net, read and watch TV. The fact that it's pretty much the same thing day in, day out, doesn't really bother me.

notalwaysalondoner · 11/01/2021 20:53

At least you get to 'come home' from work - I just shut my laptop. Then wonder what I'm going to do having looked forward to the end of work all day...

AndcalloffChristmas · 11/01/2021 20:54

Not at the moment! I feel ridiculously busy between homeschooling and work.

But in the first lockdown i managed ridiculous busy, exhausted and bored all at once, so I’m sure it’s coming!

AgeLikeWine · 11/01/2021 20:54

Yes.

It’s the middle of winter, I’m furloughed, again, and every day is Groundhog Day. I know I’m fortunate, or course. I’m hiding from the pandemic, after all, but it’s possible to acknowledge that while still being sick of bloody daytime telly.

Tangledtresses · 11/01/2021 20:56

Yes I do feel for you... my day is generally the same, but I do work and have 2 kids who drive me insane 😄
But I do walk the dog which always makes me feel better

It won't last forever... I just try to take each day as it comes.. I'm starting to think is this our lives now? What if nothing changes?
But it will I know it will 😉

LeaveMyDamnJam · 11/01/2021 20:57

I’m sorry about your loss @Beachybeach.

I’m bored out of my skin. I’m a novice knitter (two chunky scarves is all I have ever done). I’ve ordered some more chunky wool and I’m going to make a blanket from knitted squares, like this.

I hope it keeps me occupied for a while!

Jhust · 11/01/2021 20:59

Yes today especially despite working 8 hours, going on a 4 mile walk, listening to thinking allowed and about to finish Rodham. A pervasive feeling of ennui

Dollywilde · 11/01/2021 20:59

DH and I have been brainstorming my PND this evening and boredom is definitely a part of it. I don’t have the freedom to do anything with my day away from the baby, but equally I can’t do anything with her either. Our days start at 6am, I have a choice between radio / tv / silence, we do one freezing cold walk if we can muster the energy to go out (I’m finding it hard right now) and then it’s just toys, crying, sleeping, feeding. I’ve never been so bored and so busy in my life. I’d kill for a baby group or a trip to a coffee shop or just... something. Everything feels so empty.

Thistledew · 11/01/2021 21:07

Absolutely.

I have a 9 month old and a 4 year old who should be in reception. They keep me too busy to do anything that I would find interesting and as dearly as I love them they don't keep my mind very busy. I've got so many projects in the house and garden that I would love to be getting on with and feel so frustrated that I'm stuck playing with duplo for most of the day. I do enjoy doing bits of schoolwork with DS but his concentration is not very long so it's soon back to the duplo. I can't even do Lego with him, which can be more fun because DD will try and eat it and/or throw handfuls around like confetti.

The relentlessness of it was really getting to me today.

teenagetantrums · 11/01/2021 21:13

Yep. I go to work come home , cook, watch TV, sleep. Rinse and repeat. I miss being able to go and see friends and have weekend s away. I normally am not the most social of people so this comes as a surprise to me.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 11/01/2021 21:17

I am normally so busy with work, after school clubs and lunches out etc that l thought I would find the forced downtime much harder than l actually do. Saying that, early January is not a time l would relish going out anyway so am happy to read my book on front of the fire. If we are still like this in spring then l can definitely see me getting bored

Pootle40 · 11/01/2021 21:19

It's even worse when you work from home......same 4 walls 24/7. I am jealous of people to get to 'go' to work and see the outside world.

Same here. I'm pretty much in my living room all day.

I've been going to bed at about 8 out of boredom.

Robbybobtail · 11/01/2021 21:26

Yep, at home 24/7 except if i manage a walk or need something from the shop. Ive never been so bored in my life. I know i could find 'activities' like knitting, learning a new language or something but i really, really don't want to. I have this horrible lethargy, my brain feels like mush and it's all i can manage to keep the house tidy, make food for us and homeschool dd8. It's so much worse doing this in winter. Ive nearly cried so many times today but im so apathetic i cant even squeeze any tears out! Grin

youngestisapsycho · 11/01/2021 21:26

I work from home and barely leave the house. We moved to new area in September so I don’t know anyone here either. I used to go for walks with friends and have outdoor coffee with neighbours.... I don’t do anything anymore!

Norwayreally · 11/01/2021 21:27

Yep, same here. Bored and stressed, bored of being stressed and stressed about being bored.

Life is just so bloody monotonous right now. I have a baby and toddler I should be taking to groups, I should also be sitting in coffee shops enjoying five cappuccinos a day. My older DC should be at school where they belong with their friends who they love.

Instead we’re jumping around the living room at 9am with Joe Wicks after breakfast then often shouting at one another about homeschooling issues for hours. Toddler and baby are lucky to get a look in until school work is over... I can’t split myself into pieces to help them all simultaneously. DH is driving me nuts WFH too, if he tells us all to keep the noise down one more time...
