Is anyone else mind numbingly bored?

I’ve lost a family member to covid, we’ve been on the bloody breadline for months and working monotonous jobs for just as long.

But more than anything I’m just so bloody bored.

I come home from work, eat dinner, sometimes have a soak in the bath, maybe do some chores then go to bed early as there’s nothing else to do.

Anyone else feel the same way? I feel like I’m about to go insane at any moment.

Yes and no. I work 3 days, have 2 days off with DS and have weekends with DS and DH, so at least I have 3 different repeating days on loop. However I'm desperate for a day of something which is not work or looking after a 2 year old, and it's not going to happen for literally months. I think "understimulated" is the word.

Crakeandoryx · 11/01/2021 21:33

I'm bored of the mundane but I'm stupidly busy. I'm working from home and staying indoors as much as possible. Today I filled up my car. It was very exciting. I am watching TV, reading and doing crafts but it's getting dull. I'm sick of juggling kids and work, feeding everyone, tidying etc and peace and quiet doesn't feature.

Now the diet has kicked in and so that's added another layer of dull and work. We've only got weeks left and the nights are getting lighter! The end is in sight.

dementedma · 11/01/2021 21:34

Yup. Still working from home, ie listlessly answering emails from kitchen table.
Walk the same couple of walks
Look at same walls
Talk to the same people
Go to bed after dinner
Mental health shot to shit

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/01/2021 21:35

I have t fit time to be bored either now I’m homeschooling.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 11/01/2021 21:36

Yep.

What did you do today? Did you GO FOR A FUCKING WALK???

tinkywinkyshandbag · 11/01/2021 21:36

I'm not bored as in having nothing to do, I'm working, and have lots of other projects on the book. But the monotony of life is hard to bear - not seeing friends, not seeing family, not going out. Life is just dull dull dull.

bumblenbean · 11/01/2021 21:37

Yup. Bored rigid.

3 days WFH, the rest of the time trying to entertain 2 toddlers in freezing weather - nowhere to go, nothing to do, dull dull dull. The monotony and tedium is awful and i worry about their development but I realise we have no choice at the moment...

wizzbangfizz · 11/01/2021 21:38

Yes and I envy you going out to work - I've been WFH since first lockdown and I'm so sick of it.

Bearnecessity · 11/01/2021 21:45

Going out of my mind with boredom caught myself napping like a ninety year old this afternoon.

Robbybobtail · 11/01/2021 21:45

Grin

This. I know he's only being polite but dh asks every day when he gets in from work "what have you done today?" and i just want to throttle him!

MabelMoo23 · 11/01/2021 21:48

Yep. I feel absolutely numb. Feel like I have no purpose whatsoever.

I’ve been on furlough since April, am losing my job finally at end of this month.

All I do is look after the kids and cook dinner. I have no energy and inclination and feel like utter shit. Am so so low

Dollywilde · 11/01/2021 21:49

@Robbybobtail

Yep. DH comes out of the study and asks our baby ‘what did you and mummy do today?’ FUCKING NOTHING, thanks for reinforcing it.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 11/01/2021 21:54

Is anyone else never going for a walk ever again when this nightmare is over? I used to enjoy going on hikes and all that but when this is over I'm going to hold a ceremonial bonfire of my hiking boots and outdoor gear, all of it.

Littlepond · 11/01/2021 21:56

I’m busy but bored. I’m only busy with boring things! There’s no joy in my life at all at the moment. WFH 7.5 hours a day, plus manage 3 kids and their online learning and eating needs, cook dinner, eat dinner, chores, bed. I don’t even want to watch TV there’s nothing in I’m interested in.

I’m not bored as in nothing to do but I’m fed up with a tedious and uninteresting life. It’s all so futile. I’m beyond miserable.

Justgivemeamoment · 11/01/2021 22:14

Yeah. I and DH both WFH since March, my part time is a few hours a week and incredibly boring at the best of times. DDs 4 and 5 at home learning phonics and bloody D2 and D3 shapes so not much challenge for me but need constant supervising and updating the teachers how wonderfully the kids have practiced writing the letter t so no time for reading or learning crocheting/gardening/Japanese. I'm glad we are safe but what a prison this house has become.

Heyahun · 11/01/2021 22:16

Meh I’m finding things to do / work keeps me busy all day!

Then I’ve been doing heaps of cooking in the evenings, a lot of gaming 😂 got the Nintendo switch at Christmas and a few new PlayStation games! Learning how to DJ, doing a coding course online some evenings! You gotta find things to fill your time with tbh otherwise yes it would be horribly boring

notanothertakeaway · 11/01/2021 22:28

Jigsaws are quite a good distraction for passing the time

Chaiandkaafee · 11/01/2021 22:30

It is very boring being stuck at home. I am like a 1950’s housewife. Cooking and cleaning all day. Making sure everyone has snacks at break time, lunch and dinner. Three children homeschooling- so I’m walking from one bedroom to another dropping off things or taking away things. Top it with laundry and all the cleaning. Why is the house always so dusty.
But what is annoying me the most is - every time I wash and cream my hands as they are so dry nowadays - I end up wiping something, or cleaning something or another which then means I have to wash my hands again!!! Argh - I wish my creamed hands could stay that way for five minutes!!!!

AdoraBell · 11/01/2021 22:34

Yes, feel almost brain dead. Both DDs went off to Uni last year, I was furloughed in March and made redundant in June. I actually thought of knitting a scarf, also novice here, but I CBA to buy wool. I can’t even be bothered to be read, despite buying new books 🤦‍♀️

I wish I liked them. Never been one for puzzles or even board games.
thriftyhen · 11/01/2021 22:39

No! Loads of animals to look after here, dogs, cats, horses, chickens, etc. Garden to tend to. Fields to maintain. Cooking, baking. Friends & family to phone or message. Online business to run with goods to parcel up and send. For a break I walk the dogs and litter pick the verges. There's always too much to do!

BoomBoomsCousin · 11/01/2021 22:42

I've had more to do with kids at home all the time than I did when they went to school. Our weekdays are pretty full anyway and haven't changed much since before lock down except the lack of the school run.

Weekends would have been boring if we hadn't replaced activities that are shut with other things, but there's plenty to do. I'm teaching one daughter to bake and another how to program. We're introducing our kids to some classic movies and TV shows. I've started making my own board game. I have fortnightly video coffee meet ups with a couple of good friends. We go out for long walks together. I've designed several fantasy houses and read a heck of a lot and gaming too. I'm considering taking up guitar but I don't feel like I have the time at the moment.

Biscuits25 · 11/01/2021 22:53

I'm bored but I'm also lacking in motivation to do anything! Listless and just a bit meh!

STST · 11/01/2021 23:02

Bored bored bored bored bored. It is just so tedious. Like others, am essentially a house manager for kids and DH. I actually caught myself not folding the laundry this evening SO THAT I WOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO DO IN THE MORNING.

I've started another thread asking for inspiration for things to do in the house that would give some sense of achievement.

I do exercise though, and that gives me a massive boost of energy. Only problem is I can't do it in the mornings any more as chaos of live lessons, breakfast at set times etc so I spend much of the day feeling sluggish until I can finally do some, by which point I don't want to any more.

Sympathy all round, tis grim.

I’m so bored I may actually consider it. I have one I bought for dd with puppies on that has never been opened!
