To be angry with aldi

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 10/01/2021 19:10

I'm not a shop-snob.
I usually like the the simple, unfussy things in aldi. But it appears I have made a terrible mistake. I bought their toilet roll.
I didnt realise it was scented. Now I have thrush, and i am feeling sore and sorry for myself.
I never realised scented toilet paper was a thing.
Scented sanitary pads. Yes, I know to look out for and avoid those. But loo roll?

Oh, I made this mistake and it was a big 24 pack too. I took them all out of the bag and put them onto a shelf so the scent kind of dissipated a bit so they're not quite so froofy anymore.

AndcalloffChristmas · 10/01/2021 19:13

God scented loo roll is awful. Went to stay with a friend who had it and had thrush for ages.

LochJessMonster · 10/01/2021 19:15

A few years ago I kept smelling something funky down below. I convinced myself I had a yeast infection or an STD, to the point I was about to make a doctors appointment.

Turns out it was coconut scented toilet paper.

luxxlisbon · 10/01/2021 19:16

Scented toilet roll exists in most brands, it says it in pretty large graphics on the packaging.

ShaunaTheSheep · 10/01/2021 19:16

It sounds vile, but did you not notice the smell?

If it’s the premium one it’s clearly stated on the packaging.

Ch3rish · 10/01/2021 19:19

I buy aldi toilet roll and it isn't scented, at my local one there are a few different ones. It's not aldi's fault you didn't read the packet. Unless you mean that it wasn't made clear in the packet then you would be entitled to be annoyed.

Almostslimjim · 10/01/2021 19:20

Scented anything intimate is just a bad idea!

Squirrelblanket · 10/01/2021 19:22

Most supermarkets sell both scented and unscented toilet rolls. I buy unscented from Aldi.

It's not Aldi's fault that you didn't read the packaging. 🤷‍♀️

boymum9 · 10/01/2021 19:22

Oh gosh, I had this issue about 5 years ago, I stupidly didn't realise it was the bloody scented loo roll that was causing the repeat thrush and cystitis!

TheFairyCaravan · 10/01/2021 19:23

There’s scented toilet roll right across all brands. You need to read the packets. We buy ours from Aldi but have never bought scented.

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 10/01/2021 19:24

Sainsbury’s once subbed my normal pack of toilet roll for a coconut scented one. I’ve never handed anything back to a delivery driver so quickly!

Sparklingbrook · 10/01/2021 19:25

I hate scented loo roll, there's really no need for it at all. I used some Shea Butter stuff at a holiday rental without realising and it was all a bit stingy for a couple of days. Sad

Sparklingbrook · 10/01/2021 19:26

There was a Charmin one where the cardboard inner tube thing was fragranced. You could smell it through the packaging.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 10/01/2021 19:27

I have never seen scented loo roll.
Hence not looking for that info on the packet.
It is there, in tiny print. I have now checked.
And yes, I have 23.5 rolls of the stuff.
I sort if half noticed the smell, but assumed one of the kids had left some shower gel open or something.
Dd has saved the day. She found half a roll of normal stuff in her room, from when she had hay fever
Now, I feel like the naught kid in class, walking to the toilet with 3 squares of paper. So I dont leave it in there

Not really Aldi's fault though is it. Come on.

QueenBeth · 10/01/2021 19:30

I bought this by mistake a few months ago. I quarantined it in the garage until the smell wore off.

Bagelsandbrie · 10/01/2021 19:31

If lockdown continues you may be able to auction the rolls off! Grin

Nsky · 10/01/2021 19:35

Not their fault, just get some normal stuff, always careful myself.

ShowOfHands · 10/01/2021 19:36

It isn't tiny print, it's there on the front. But fair enough if you don't know to look out for it.

We used to use Aldi until we took out a subscription to an eco/recycled company and I'm pretty sure DH accidentally bought scented once.

TheHobbitMum · 10/01/2021 19:40

I'm surprised you didn't smell it to be honest, when I'm putting any of the scented toilet roll out it absolutely stinks.

Can you air the rolls out a bit to get rid of some of the smell like previous poster Legend did?

InFiveMins · 10/01/2021 19:42

Confused Of course YABU - you bought scented toilet paper. It's your fault, not Aldi's.

unmarkedbythat · 10/01/2021 19:46

I hate scented loo roll so, so much. Any shop is automatically BU by selling it.

Still1nLove · 10/01/2021 19:47

I had cystitis recently and I just couldn’t shift it, only realised it was the loo roll when I used it in the middle of the night two days ago and I was stinging when I got back into bed!
I had bought the Aldi coconut paper instead of my usual one. I’ll never make that mistake again

PrivateParty · 10/01/2021 19:48

I didn't realise this was a thing either. Never accidentally bought it though. Will pay more attention in the future after reading this and what it can lead to!

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 10/01/2021 19:49

I’m angry with Aldi because it won’t be long before they’re just another Tesco/Sainsbury’s. Their prices are creeping up and up.
