To be angry with aldi

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 10/01/2021 19:10

I'm not a shop-snob.
I usually like the the simple, unfussy things in aldi. But it appears I have made a terrible mistake. I bought their toilet roll.
I didnt realise it was scented. Now I have thrush, and i am feeling sore and sorry for myself.
I never realised scented toilet paper was a thing.
Scented sanitary pads. Yes, I know to look out for and avoid those. But loo roll?

OP posts:

Ps I like it - no ill effects. I think you can get aloe Vera too

Kettledodger · 10/01/2021 20:34

Well done Viviennemary slow Clap for you

MandosHatHair · 10/01/2021 20:34

Aldi Sanpro has gone scented too Sad

I accidentally picked up scented loo roll by mistake too before I knew it was a thing and also ended up with thrush. Before that I never thought to check the packaging.

NotMeNoNo · 10/01/2021 20:35

I hope you've all sent Aldi feedback!

StealthRoast · 10/01/2021 20:37

I’m guessing it’s the coconut one. It’s my favourite!

I’m 43 next week and have never had thrush in my life. I think I have the unfussiest Fanjo on MN.

Fatherbrownsbicycle · 10/01/2021 20:37

I regularly bought Aldi 24 toilet rolls with no problem. Picked one up as usual with my shop one day and discovered it was scented.

They seemed to only do scented, I checked every week. I just gave up in the end. Awful stuff gave me thrush too.

WithinAForestDark · 10/01/2021 20:41

@Viviennemary

I hate Aldi. I like brands that I know. And I font like the way thry have that jumble sale mess in the middle. Awful place. Never set foot in it if I can help it.
Did we all miss the bit where the OP asked for irrelevant opinions on Aldi? Is it just you that can see that bit? Confused
Reallyhadenough · 10/01/2021 20:41

I will only buy home bargains scented toilet paper...but none of my family have allergies,I didn't realise aldi had a variation

MorganKitten · 10/01/2021 20:45

Most supermarkets sell it, it says it on the packet.

SomewhatBored · 10/01/2021 20:50

And yes, I have 23.5 rolls of the stuff.

Look on the bright side. If we have another loo roll panic buying spate, they may prove a sound investment. Grin

earthyfire · 10/01/2021 20:50

I hate scented loo rolls as much as I hate scented sanitary towels

GabsAlot · 10/01/2021 20:51

NuniaBeeswax · 10/01/2021 20:52

If you're putting any toilet paper "up there" you're doing it wrong...

Reinventinganna · 10/01/2021 20:54

Give the left over rolls to people as gifts Grin

isseys4xmastinselcats · 10/01/2021 20:55

i buy the 24 packs of loo roll from aldi and its not scented they do two different large packs as someone with sensitive skin i always check to make sure its unscented as the itch isnt worth a few pennies saved

Gingerwhinger0 · 10/01/2021 20:59

@Kettledodger

Why are you angry with Aldi??? I have shopped there for 5+ years and can read the pack of toilet paper that clearly states it is scented. As a woman whole gets thrush easily I have managed to not buy them once in that whole time. Maybe I have some special powers that repels scented toilet paper or just maybe I take more notice in what I am actually buying.
Aldi is my regular shop for years too. I am aware that Aldi sells scented toilet roll, but they usually indicate this on the packaging by way of a useful illustration and I will swerve packaging showing almonds dripping shea butter, coconut swaying palms, bird of paradise sniffing tropical flowers etc. The one I bought recently didn't have any such illustration. Just small text saying fresh scent, under item description. My own fault for not carefully inspecting the small print I guess, but why should you have to ? I seriously don't know who buys this stuff, after all the recent toilet roll buying epidemics it's the only thing left on the shelf. There can't be that much of a demand for it, surely its a niche product that you need to go to a special shop to purchase, or get it imported from a faraway place.
2021vision · 10/01/2021 21:00

Your own fault, stop moaning, you didn't read the packaging. I'm really careful these days with so many variants of stuff.

TatianaBis · 10/01/2021 21:05

Ladies, we all need to get together and bombard loo roll and sanitary pad manufacturers with the message: WE DO NOT WANT THRUSH.

Quite apart from the fact that it all STINKS.

Keeping2ChevronsApart · 10/01/2021 21:09

Pretty sure Waitrose sell own brand scented paper too Hmm

fourandnomore · 10/01/2021 21:10

I did this once accidentally too. Thrush within a day. Never made the mistake again, I feel your pain!

Amanduh · 10/01/2021 21:12

How is it Aldi’s fault?! Every shop sells it.
Aldi also sell three types of scented toilet paper. All very clearly marked. Don’t know where anyone gets the ‘tiny print’ part from....

Pechanga · 10/01/2021 21:13

MN has taught me something new! ...I didn't know scented toilet roll existed....yuck!

WombatChocolate · 10/01/2021 21:14

Just offer it to a friend/family member who might like/not be bothered by it.

It’s a bit annoying, but really I do t think Aldi deserves your anger. If you’re buying a product or brand you do t usually buy, you should read the info to make sure it suits you.

The fact that lots of sanpro and loonrolls are scented is a different issue. Yes, write to say they should abandon them and why, along with plastic tubes in tampons, but not be angry that YOU picked it off the shelf and chose to buy it .
