To be angry with aldi

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 10/01/2021 19:10

I'm not a shop-snob.
I usually like the the simple, unfussy things in aldi. But it appears I have made a terrible mistake. I bought their toilet roll.
I didnt realise it was scented. Now I have thrush, and i am feeling sore and sorry for myself.
I never realised scented toilet paper was a thing.
Scented sanitary pads. Yes, I know to look out for and avoid those. But loo roll?

Uhm, it really isn't Aldi's fault and they are not the only shop selling scented toilet paper.

Read the packaging before you buy Hmm

PlanDeRaccordement · 10/01/2021 19:52

Sorry but you only have yourself to be angry at as it is labelled and sadly every supermarket carries the scented ones these days. I do feel sorry for you though as the scented stuff is vile when you are sensitive to perfumes. Hopefully you can donate the excess to a food bank.

Meowchickameowmeow · 10/01/2021 19:53

Scented toilet paper has been a thing for years, are you honestly saying you've never seen it before?

june2007 · 10/01/2021 19:53

YANBU to dislike scented loo roll, but read the labels.

Splodgetastic · 10/01/2021 19:54

I discovered in Lockdown 1 that scented loo paper gives me thrush. How delightful. It had never been a problem before as I am usually not at home much and the loo paper at work must be the cheapest one-ply sort!

Gingerwhinger0 · 10/01/2021 19:56

I bought some scented in Aldi before Christmas, my usual unscented ones had sold out, probably due to panic buying. It was only as a I was walking out the shop that I noticed it said 'fresh scent' on the packaging (all 24 rolls) my heart sank and they have sat an the back seat of my car ever since. Who the fuck needs scented toilet rolls ?
I was going to try and take them in for a swap, but though I might look like one of the idiots that had panic bought toilet rolls. I would donate them to a food bank or something, but don't want to inflict thrush on anyone, so the back seat of my car they will stay for now.

FreezerBird · 10/01/2021 20:00

We occasionally get it donated at foodbank. After some attempts to deal with it by quarantining it from the food we still found that it made everything in the food parcels smell.

Now we swap it for the same number of rolls from the church building where we run the foodbank from.

FreezerBird · 10/01/2021 20:01

(And I should add that I was blissfully ignorant of its existence until the first time it was donated, as were my fellow volunteers, as it took us a while to work out what was going on.)

DH came home all smug like a returning hunter with a big pack of Aldi scented toilet rolls a couple of weeks ago. I let him put them in the downstairs toilet. The exercise to go upstairs to pee will do me good. Silly sod.

Wynston · 10/01/2021 20:08

We had some the other week as a substitute.......i was highly amused that I would smell like paradise!!
Gave me thrush very sad about that!!

Sparklfairy · 10/01/2021 20:13

I'm convinced scent loo rolls (and sanitary pads) were invented by a man. No self respecting woman would possibly think it's a good idea to fragrance your foof!

Orlania · 10/01/2021 20:14

Scented toilet roll is bad. Makes me itch just thinking about it.

Titterofwit · 10/01/2021 20:16

I accidentally bought scented loo rolls from Aldi a while ago. I usually buy the Cheap ones from Home bargains which are not scented but coudn't justify the drive when I was already in Aldi. So of course I bought 9 rolls.

Only once they were installed in the bathroom toilet roll holder I realised that they stank. It never occurred to me that there were still scented toilet rolls .I mean why? They wont defeat normal toilety smells and scented things usually smell rank on their own. A complete waste of effort I would think.
Anyway, I couldnt stand the smell so the wholetoilet roll storage unit had to live on the landing for a while until the smell went. But then I also hadnt realised that you can get thrush from the flaming stuff. Bah!
It was only when the itching started that the light dawned.
Why on earth would you make and sell something that caused discomfort to your buyers? Makes no sense to me.

BumbleFlump · 10/01/2021 20:16

I bought the same by mistake and ended up returning them - I said the loo roll aggravated my daughter’s eczema. I am an Aldi fan but this loo roll needs to be removed from the shelves!

AnneShirleysNewDress · 10/01/2021 20:17

Same as PP. We got some as a substitute in our delivery. Instant thrush Sad

Marmite27 · 10/01/2021 20:18

My husband bought these, I noticed and may have shouted a bit. We alternate who goes to to the shop. Toilet paper is now my responsibility. I can’t actually remember what we did with it, food bank probably. But I refused to let my daughters and I use it.

It’s really similar in packaging to the non scented stuff. You have to be really careful you pick up the right one.

Waspnest · 10/01/2021 20:19

coconut scented toilet paper.

Blimey, who wants their arse to smell like a Bounty? I too never knew that scented loo roll was a thing, but I think YAB a bit U because you should have read the packaging.

I bought frozen chips thinking they were oven chips and it was only when I got home that I realised they were for deep frying so I think it is easily done (but still not the shop's fault).

famousforwrongreason · 10/01/2021 20:23

I don't understand why people are getting so sniffy op. I've never seen or even heard of scented toilet roll before so I wouldn't think of reading the pack to check.

justasking111 · 10/01/2021 20:27

Accidentally bought some during lockdown, oh the thrush followed by cystitis was so bad nothing from the chemists worked. Shea butter the bathroom ponged with it.

Kettledodger · 10/01/2021 20:27

Why are you angry with Aldi??? I have shopped there for 5+ years and can read the pack of toilet paper that clearly states it is scented. As a woman whole gets thrush easily I have managed to not buy them once in that whole time. Maybe I have some special powers that repels scented toilet paper or just maybe I take more notice in what I am actually buying.

venusandmars · 10/01/2021 20:28

Slightly off-topic, but I bought my standard brand of washing up liquid last week. I hate 'scented' washing up liquid, please no apples or lemon or whatever.

Did the washing up and somehow it 'didn't smell like my house'. Read the label and on the 'original' format they have added a 'new improved scent'.

I didn't want a scent, that was why I bought original. Grrr

queenofSI · 10/01/2021 20:29

it’s not in tiny font though Hmm

dementedpixie · 10/01/2021 20:29

Asda had a whole range of scented stuff too so it's not just aldi

movingonup20 · 10/01/2021 20:31

Aldi sell regular and one with shea butter, I'm guessing you bought that one

Viviennemary · 10/01/2021 20:32

I hate Aldi. I like brands that I know. And I font like the way thry have that jumble sale mess in the middle. Awful place. Never set foot in it if I can help it.
