Mayo mixed with grain mustard - AIBU

So I made DH beef sandwiches and out a mix of Mayo and grain mustard on them (3 parts Mayo to 1 part grain mustard)

He described them as food fo the devil and if he’d known I was going to poison him he’d have gone hungry

My mother didn’t fancy it but I implored her to try it - she did and agreed with him!

Am I weird? Are my tastebuds faulty?

Mustard Mayo is indeed a delicious addition to any piece

CherryRoulade · 09/01/2021 17:49

No. It’s a brilliant combination for a Germanic potato salad too.

SilverBirchWithout · 09/01/2021 17:51

Some grain mustards can be a bit vinegary to my taste. So it depends on the brand and ratio of mustard to mayo.

kurtrussellsbeard · 09/01/2021 17:51

Heaven and you are a genius.

Dotinthecity · 09/01/2021 17:54

M&S use it in their ham & mustard Mayo sandwiches so it’s got to be okay! 😉

Tal45 · 09/01/2021 17:54

I have a mayo mustard mix with almost everything, if I'm having chips I add ketchup too.

namechangefail2020 · 09/01/2021 17:55

I make a dip with that and dip boiled eggs in it

vampirethriller · 09/01/2021 17:56

Add a tbsp of set honey to that.

iklboo · 09/01/2021 17:56

Gorgeous. I use it in my potato salad - baby new potatoes roasted with onion granules, mixed herbs & salt. Fried, chopped smoked bacon, mayo & whole grain mustard. Divine.

Pulled chicken burgers with mustard Mayo is probably my favourite family meal.
Your relatives are the weird ones.

MirandaMarple · 09/01/2021 17:58

It's in Nigella's Christmas book as a suggested condiment for Christmas ham etc. Who argues with Nigella?

greensnail · 09/01/2021 17:58

Delicious - my favourite!

doadeer · 09/01/2021 17:58

It's delicious I always have this for my chips!

ErrolTheDragon · 09/01/2021 17:59

Mayo with mustard is fine, but obviously horseradish would have been better.

ThorFull · 09/01/2021 17:59

Mustard Mayo is fairly standard for sandwiches I thought.
Generally can’t be bothered to make a mix. Just spread both in bread. Lovely.

stealthninjamum · 09/01/2021 18:00

Yum! I’ll be round for sandwiches at yours after lockdown Smile

Whatthebloodyell · 09/01/2021 18:04

I don’t like Mayo but I do like mustard Mayo.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 09/01/2021 18:05

i think the ratio is a bit mustard heavy tbh...and as pp said, some wholegrain mustard is really nasty.

I think you need to spread the bread with mayo and then waft a mustardy knife over the mayo.

Crankley · 09/01/2021 18:06

Personally I prefer English mustard on a beef sandwich, no mayonnaise.

Who argues with Nigella? Me - she's ghastly.

TroysMammy · 09/01/2021 18:09

I mix mayo with crushed garlic to dip fried calamari in.

IfTheSockFits · 09/01/2021 18:19

Some wholegrain mustard can be very sour and gutsy. Maybe you just put a bit too much in.

Mayo mixed with horseradish is very nice with smoked mackerel btw.

thespanishlady77 · 09/01/2021 18:28

Love Love Love mayo and coarse grain mustard

MaudHatter · 09/01/2021 18:34

Add some honey too ! It’s a fab combination

DogInATent · 09/01/2021 18:34

Fantastic with a good mayo (e.g. Hellman's) and quality mustard, but I can imagine it being a bit grim if it's one of the cheap vinegary mayos.

peak2021 · 09/01/2021 18:51

If it was not Colman's mustard, YABU for definite.
