I'm going to do a "tapas night" to treat myself since there's no going out!

What's your favourite tapas? I seem to remember eating some kind of chorizo and honey combo, but give me your ideas of things to make!

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 06/01/2021 11:16

Berenjenas, sort of fried courgette strips with honey and balsamic drizzled over.

maras2 · 06/01/2021 11:17

loveyouradvice · 06/01/2021 11:18

What a great thread! Something fun and positive to look forward to!!

Fried squid, pretty much any way

Tomato bruschetta.... yup, probably easier to do at home ... just some great bread, lightly toasted or grilled with garlic and olive oil and some fine chopped tomato with a dash of olive oil and smidge of salt on top... and if its knocking around, a wee bit of chopped basil....

Mmm... look forward to hearing others ideas... and tapas evenings springing up around the country!

Chorizo in red wine
Whitebait (deep fried)
Anything with calamari
Anything with prawns

cricketmum84 · 06/01/2021 11:19

Pre vegetarianism - chorizo in red wine, garlic and chilli prawns and the little meatballs.

Now my absolute favourite is courgette fries. Omg I could devour the entire basket. Tiny thin strips of courgette dipped in a batter made with flour, salt and soda water and then deep fried.

iklboo · 06/01/2021 11:24

Meatballs (albonigas a la jardinera)

Pukkatea · 06/01/2021 11:37

I do my grandmas standard family recipes for a tapas night

  • Chorizo in cider, add chicken stock, honey, paprika, garlic and parsley
  • Albondigas
  • Gambas - easiest thing ever, prawns garlic and butter, done.

For carb, tortilla is a faff and patatas bravas are boring. Pan con tomate with some jamon as suggested above is better, if you can get salchichon and lomo as well, plus pate with plain crusty bread.

Finally, harder to get in England but my absolute favourites - baby eels fried in chilli oil. Mix with cubed potatoes, eggs and sauces for delicious sartenada.

Pukkatea · 06/01/2021 11:39

Croquetas are great but also a bit of a faff to do alongside a load of other things.

GoldfishParade · 06/01/2021 11:42

Mmmm getting hungry now, going to shop in an hour!

So far going to do the chorizo in honey and wine, @loveyouradvice simple but effective bruschetta - it's a yes! Also will do patatas bravas with some kind of moreish sauce.

@Pukkatea baby eels! 😱 I am totally squeamish! I might try doing the chorizo in cider like you suggest

Flatbread and hummus
Olives

AgeLikeWine · 06/01/2021 11:44

Any sort of seafood, but particularly squid, Galician octopus & prawns served with vast quantities olive oil & garlic. To drink ; manzanilla for me please.

Marmite27 · 06/01/2021 11:45

Arroz con pollo and Patatas Bravas.

Elouera · 06/01/2021 11:46

Along with the many other suggestions, I also love octopus with potato (pulpo a la Gallega).

You can buy Spanish omelette (plain, chorizo, bacon etc) pre done from many supermarkets now. One option would be to make some of the dishes yourself, then use some pre-made ones too, so you arent cooking ALL day.

Carishina · 06/01/2021 11:48

Tomato bread
Patatas bravas
Padron peppers
Espinacas con garbanzos (spinach and chickpea)

Really fancy some tapas now!

Sarahandduck18 · 06/01/2021 11:49

Calimari
Patatas Bravas
Garlic mushrooms
Aubergine stew
Spanish omelette
Prawns and chorizo
