To ask why people vote for trump

Yabuok · 04/01/2021 14:03

Although it is looking like trump has lost why did so many people vote for him. I won’t pretend that the uk is somehow better or we would never vote for him as we basically have already... but what is the appeal why do people follow him?

OP posts:
Yabuok · 04/01/2021 14:07

Shouldn’t have enabled voting

OP posts:
knittingaddict · 04/01/2021 14:09

Lack of decent education and ignorance. That would be my first go to.

MaskingForIt · 04/01/2021 14:09

For much the same reasons that people vote for Boris/Conservatives in the U.K.

They think that their lives will be better under that sort of leadership, that there will be more jobs and opportunities, that they don’t want “communism”, that everyone should work to provide for themselves and not be reliant on state handouts.

It’s not rocket science.

knittingaddict · 04/01/2021 14:10

Also it is looking like Trump lost? Where have you been for the last 2 months?

pointythings · 04/01/2021 14:11

It's not 'looking like' - he has lost. There is no doubt except in the minds of his cult.

As for the answer? There isn't a simple one. His evangelical followers want to 'save the babies'. Others are angry because their world has changed too far, too fast and they haven't been able to keep up. Then there's the somewhat legitimate element that successive federal governments have not done enough to maintain infrastructure and improve or modernise manufacturing, which is one that applies in the UK as well. There's also a fair number of out and out batshit crazy people who follow conspiracy theories. And racists, homophobes and misogynists, including the internalised kind. It's a colourful mix of people. Some are my in laws. We don't speak.

What do you mean by it’s looking like he is currently disputing the results and litigation is ongoing but it is looking like it will be Biden

Was going to say the exact same thing.

Yabuok · 04/01/2021 14:14

By looking like I just mean the results are being disputed in court and congress

Apollo3 · 04/01/2021 14:15

Christ. It's not "looking like" anything, Biden won at the time, there was no dispute to be had. Hmm

People vote for Trump because they are stupid or ignorant or racist or all of the above.

lubeybooby · 04/01/2021 14:15

a lot of deeply ingrained religious one issue voters, namely pro-life and trump was the pro life candidate

My uncle is an absolutely vile, entitled, sex pest, misogynist and supports trump - he admires greatly trumps bragging of 'grab em by the pussy' and 'do whatever you want'

Yabuok · 04/01/2021 14:17

I just wanted to acknowledge that litigation is pending.

OP posts:
BrumBoo · 04/01/2021 14:18

I've said this before. It's because Trump represents America as it wants to be seen. Many take the mick of of the patriotic 'Murica' sentiments, but it brings with it a sense of stability. If one repeats how brilliant they are enough times, it becomes true, or a version of the truth at least. So Trump and his 'make America great again' routine really did hit home for many who felt hopelessly displaced in a fast moving world, where old principles and line of thought, even the religion the country usually strictly adhere to, is being changed on a daily basis. Even the most moderate of people sometimes feel they're being vilified for holding on to their past ideals or way of life. I doubt everyone who voted for him fully agreed or even like him, but much like Brexit it was a bit of a 'fuck you' vote.

I personally find him to be utterly foul, but I can see why people voted for him.

knittingaddict · 04/01/2021 14:19

Oh come on op, I'm suspicious of your agenda now. As someone else said, only someone in the Trump cult would think that he had any chance of overturning the election result. You are interested in Trump, but haven't been following the news?

BrumBoo · 04/01/2021 14:20

Though I wouldn't say the results are pending. Biden is the next president of the USA, if anything were to be changed in the next few weeks, it would be nothing but the demolishing of democracy. Trump has zero to fight for, it's over.

knittingaddict · 04/01/2021 14:21

You don't need to be nice to Trump. He wouldn't return the favour.
Yabuok · 04/01/2021 14:21

Biden won the election no one is saying he didn’t I simply wanted to note that the results are currently being challenged i court because of alleged fraud

OP posts:
RunningFromInsanity · 04/01/2021 14:22

Because they agree with his policies and his no-nonsense approach. He puts America first.

Many people agree with his stance on immigration, terrorising, right to bear arms, abortion, gay rights, freedom of speech, (non) distribution of wealth. Obamacare is widely criticised in America.

maddening · 04/01/2021 14:22

The far right / racists/ religion / homophobic / Pro gun etc but a lot of it also seems to be fear and hatred of anything that even appears slightly centrist to left - even helping the poor or free health service is seen as a step on the path to communism.

Apollo3 · 04/01/2021 14:22

Biden won the election no one is saying he didn’t I simply wanted to note that the results are currently being challenged i court because of alleged fraud

You said it, in your OP. Hmm WTF are you pushing here?

HOkieCOkie · 04/01/2021 14:23

People think they want change, so they vote for radicals but then they realise what a mistake it was.

Yabuok · 04/01/2021 14:24

Nothing I just keep being questioned so I wanted to clarify
OP posts:
knittingaddict · 04/01/2021 14:24

Are you trying to draw out the Trump supporters? Looks like we have a winner already.

Apollo3 · 04/01/2021 14:24

Because they agree with his policies and his no-nonsense approach. He puts America first. Many people agree with his stance on immigration, terrorising, right to bear arms, abortion, gay rights, freedom of speech, (non) distribution of wealth

Like I said, they are stupid, ignorant and racist. Also add homophobic, idiotic, and twattish.

BTW, Trump never put America first. He put Trump first, at all times.

Terracottasaur · 04/01/2021 14:24

It’s not ‘looking like Trump has lost’. He has definitively lost, and has no path to victory through courts or congress. I could claim to be the elected US president and it would be just as good a claim as Trump has.

knittingaddict · 04/01/2021 14:27

OP, you're being questioned because your comment was ridiculous. No intelligent person would give Trump and his deranged plot to overturn the election a moments credibility. It's rubbish.
