A UK resident has decided to declare that he has always considered himself to be French because his mother is French and is applying for French citizenship and feels that he will always be a European.

The lucky individual? Stanley Johnson.

Can we encourage his son to seek active Russian or US citizenship?

Disgusting lack of respect shown from a father to a son especially with the timing. I’d never vote for Stanley Johnson if he acts that way

sausageathlete · 31/12/2020 19:07

it's about as much respect as the PM has shown to the rest of the country.

To be fair to him, he did campaign for remain. He can’t be blamed for his son’s actions. (I am not a fan..)

StCharlotte · 31/12/2020 19:10

I think both men are despicable but am with Stanley on this one.

MaskingForIt · 31/12/2020 19:11

If I was eligible to apply for a passport for any EU country I would do too.

SoupDragon · 31/12/2020 19:12

What is wrong with someone applying for citizenship that they are entitled to claim?

OrigamiOwl · 31/12/2020 19:12

@Shamoo

To be fair to him, he did campaign for remain. He can’t be blamed for his son’s actions. (I am not a fan..)
I agree with this. He campaigned for remain. His mother is french, he's eligible to apply. If I had the option to apply I'd jump straight on it. (I'm not a fan of either of them TBF tho)
chipsandpeas · 31/12/2020 19:13

boris was a US citizen but renounced it a few years ago due to tax reasons

DrunkenKoala · 31/12/2020 19:13

He’s a remainer and he campaigned for remain. He’s eligible for an EU passport. Fair play to him.

Julestherabbit · 31/12/2020 19:14

I don’t consider myself Irish, but was born in Belfast and have subsequently obtained Irish passports for myself and DC.....and their DC will also be eligible.

nosswith · 31/12/2020 19:15

I would apply for one if I could.

We should not be criticising him for this, let's focus on the allegations that he was violent to his ex-wife and that he has fathered a man who is through his neglect a serial killer in all but name.

Wannabangbang · 31/12/2020 19:16

Stanley is brilliant, Brexit is a pile of cow dung and Boris should have put a stop to it. We are in the middle of a global crisis it ain't the time for cutting ties with our fellow countries

raskolnikova · 31/12/2020 19:18

It's no weirder than Farage's kids having EU passports or prominent Brexiters like Claire Fox having Irish citizenship. Or Tory donors buying Maltese passports.

BrumBoo · 31/12/2020 19:18

He wanted to remain in the EU, didn't he? This way he can. Don't really see the problem with him or anyone else doing this.

I'm not 100% in this, but I thought Boris has pissed off pretty much his entire family with his Brexit project? It's not any of their fault that he used this to push his own political career.

CorianderBee · 31/12/2020 19:19

If his mums French then he is French though...

Annoying for those of us who have nothing but English or Scottish or Welsh but he is within his rights

SoupDragon · 31/12/2020 19:19

and that he has fathered a man who...

That is ridiculous.

lurchersrule · 31/12/2020 19:20

These people have all done a number on the great British public. But isn't it great that we've taken back control from that nasty old EU? What a fucking joke.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 31/12/2020 19:21

I have absolutely NO interest where he chooses to call home - why do you?

Shmithecat2 · 31/12/2020 19:23

Can't believe 68% have voted YANBU. He's a Remainer and has a french mother. What's the fucking problem?

HollowTalk · 31/12/2020 19:24

Then doesn't this mean that Boris could claim French citizenship if a grandparent was French?

donquixotedelamancha · 31/12/2020 19:25

In fairness both Stanley and Boris Johnson were pro remain until right before the referendum when it became clear that all of Boris' main rivals for the Tory leadership would be supporting remain.

SquirtleSquad · 31/12/2020 19:25

I'm applying for an Irish passport. I didn't want to leave the EU.

PatchworkElmer · 31/12/2020 19:27

Can’t blame him. And makes it very clear where he stands on this (again), on the eve of Brexit. I’d also want to publicly disassociate myself from BoJo’s politics if I was related to him.

NoWordForFluffy · 31/12/2020 19:27

@Shamoo

To be fair to him, he did campaign for remain. He can’t be blamed for his son’s actions. (I am not a fan..)
Exactly this.
DontWalkPastTheCastle · 31/12/2020 19:28

Got to do something to remind us all the Brexit is only for us poor people.
