A UK resident has decided to declare that he has always considered himself to be French because his mother is French and is applying for French citizenship and feels that he will always be a European.

The lucky individual? Stanley Johnson.

Can we encourage his son to seek active Russian or US citizenship?

Reported . Vile comment

VinylDetective · 31/12/2020 20:23

Really? You must have a ridiculously low bar for vile comments.

TheVanguardSix · 31/12/2020 20:24

I'm American born and raised but obtained Irish citizenship through my mum. Thirty years later and a staunch remainer, I'm so glad to have that citizenship. My kids need it more than I do!
I don't see the problem, OP. Boris is the odd man out. His father and siblings are all remainers. Nowt wrong with being a Francophile.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 31/12/2020 20:31

My grandparents were German. All my kids have french names. Dibs on that EU passport.

Yes, both Brexiters and Remainers do it, but there’s no hypocrisy in Remainers doing it. To be fair Stanley voted remain.

YABU to suggest Russia or the US. They've suffered enough.

Can we encourage Boris Johnson to seek active citizenship to the fiery acid-washed hellscape of Venus?

Or North Korean? Grin
Peregrina · 31/12/2020 21:06

There are millions of Brits who have no idea how frustrating it is queuing for two hours at the end of a long trip before you can get in a taxi to take you to your accommodation.

But there are plenty of Leavers on these threads who have said, what's the big deal, you have to queue in the USA. Or they don't travel. It's all a very dog in the manger attitude, they don't need it, so why are we upset? (Unless they decide they will get their Irish passport)

Timbucktime · 31/12/2020 21:07

Well he is half french so I don’t blame him

Peregrina · 31/12/2020 21:07

How old is Stanley Johnson? It's taken him rather a long time to decide that he's French, but at least he's not a hypocritical Leaver.

UrAWizHarry · 31/12/2020 21:14

If I could escape the utter shitshow the uk has become under his cunt of a child I would do so without thinking.

JustLikeStitch · 31/12/2020 21:18

I fully support anyone that can apply for EU citizenship to do so. I think a large majority of remainers would jump ship if they could, I definitely would. Hopefully Scotland won’t have this problem much longer though!

sadcatdiary · 31/12/2020 21:18

Imagine knowing that you'd spawned Boris.

BooBahBoo · 31/12/2020 21:20

One of the only benefits to living in NI. My passport just expired so I'll be getting my entire family Irish ones next time. A lot of people would if they could. He is an insufferable oaf, though.

saraclara · 31/12/2020 21:35

As far as I recall, Boris Johnson's entire family disagreed with him on Brexit. So they can do what they like as far as I'm concerned. There's absolutely no reason why any of them should be tied down by their son's/brother's politics.

Inthemuckheap · 31/12/2020 21:36

Good for him. He has the right to French nationality and is a remainer.

tttigress · 31/12/2020 21:38

Can't stand Stanley, he seems desperate to get any sort of media coverage

ArrowsOfMistletoe · 31/12/2020 21:41

He was a Remainer, so I'm fine with it. Farage having an EU passport - not so much. Any Leave voter getting an EU passport - stinking hypocrites.

My DDs have never lived anywhere but in the UK. For all of us, taking UK citizenship would have cost us our Dutch citizenship. I have no words for how glad I am never to have taken that step - we have a way out. I feel for every Remain voter who has seen their and their children's opportunities slashed.

SouthDownsLass · 31/12/2020 21:44

Not quite sure what your point is. Should all parents switch to their children's politics?

Cherrysoup · 31/12/2020 21:46

Good luck to him. It's incredibly difficult to be granted French citizenship, I know several people who have tried and failed, including people who are married to French citizens.

Should be pretty straightforward given his mother is French. Id do it too if I were eligible.

BurMaMa2 · 31/12/2020 21:56

I think Mr Johnson senior is a despicable man . So is his son, Boris Johnson. Clever, self-serving men. They can both leave as soon as they like. However, what would then happen to his current wife, very young son and the rescue dog? Alimony money to 12 + women? What a mess.

nauticant · 31/12/2020 22:00

I'm surprised at the Stanley Johnson fans:

www.heraldscotland.com/news/18769339.stanley-johnson-broke-wifes-nose-domestic-violence-incident/

He might be a Remainer, I was, but come on.

ArrowsOfMistletoe · 31/12/2020 22:03

Oh, he's a massive asshat. I loathe him for breaking COVID rules and getting away with it and I'm not at all surprised to hear he's guilty of DV. But he's fully entitled to his French passport and any Brexiteer fucknugget spouting patriotic bullshit about how awful it is, is going to get told just that.

VinylDetective · 31/12/2020 22:04

However, what would then happen to his current wife

If we’re talking about Johnson the Younger, he isn’t currently in possession of a wife.
