To get dressed up for NYE?

Just me and DH, the dog and a smelly old cat. I'm heavily pregnant. Haven't really had a chance to dress up for very much lately - even on Xmas Day I made sure to be back in my comfy PJ's for Xmas Dinner!

Tonight I can't make up my mind though. I've some lovely new frocks and sparkly tights. Or I've got a new pair of very comfortable PJ's.

Either way I'll be throwing some sparkly lipstick and eyeshadow on! We've got alcohol free fizz, wine, and cocktails, homemade dips and breads and cheese, there'll be boardgames, a quiz, and some silly dancing.

What would you do?! Posh dress or new PJ's? Is anyone else bothering going all out?

Posh dress!! We are doing pretty much the same as you (with more booze though obvs) and I'm just about to get in the shower and start getting ready. I'm in pyjamas and loungewear most of the time atm, it's fun to get dressed up occasionally (and also to remind myself what I look like when I make an effort Grin!).

We are. We’ve got a takeaway, cocktails and the trimmings.

We’re all dressed up, hair done but with the added bonus of slippers.

I'm glad it's not just me leaning towards making the bit of effort! DH doesn't mind, but I did notice he'd taken out his honeymoon shirt yesterday, so I'm assuming he's up for it too. 😂

Slippers and posh dress is the perfect compromise!

Think I'll go and run myself a nice bath, and decide on a dress! It'll be nice not to see a bundle of fluff when I look in the mirror!

Ah I'm doing slippers and a dress too albeit a casual one with a new huge Christmas jumper. Grin so a halfway house. Might chuck on some makeup and jewellery once DD is in bed if I can be arsed by then. Will see if DH reciprocates with a shirt on but I won't hold my breath tbh haha.

I’ve spent most of the day getting prepared for tonight I’m that desperate to dress up 😂
Exfoliated, fake tan, curled my hair, make up the full works all while having Christmas songs on the go. I think we have to grab any bit of happiness at the moment

We are dressing up, don’t normally for new year at home. Have friends round for casual gatherings normally.

So take away then dressing up for drinks and snacks later on! Might as well make the most of it.

@Turnedouttoes You've inspired me into full action now! I had a new haircut a few weeks ago and haven't done a thing with it since... think I'll stick a hair mask on and get the curlers out!

@ChasingRainbows19 I agree! May as well take advantage of a bit of celebration while it's there! Nice to end the year with a bit of sparkle!

That sounds fab! I hope you have a lovely time! I don't think there are fireworks from what I've heard - we might be very sad and see if we can see a little display on YouTube or something. Not exactly the same but keeping with the theme!

It's all about the feather boa and leopard skin (print) trousers for me. Oh, and a glass of champagne.

Murder mystery via zoom at 19:30 so the leopard skin may be wasted. Tant pis.

I got dressed in a pretty dress an hour ago.

Moved the ironing board in the storeroom and knocked a jar of pasta sauce off. It landed on my collar bone and exploded spectacularly. Back in pajamas now, accompanied with the alluring smell of tomato and basil Grin

I’ve just got home from work. Had a shower and now in my comfy new PJs. That’s me for the evening. Cocktails in my PJs.

Nothing wrong with getting dressed up though. So whatever makes you feel happiest!! Smile

I'm wearing one of my most dressy outfits tonight. So fed up of having nowhere to wear nice things to.

I'm thinking a play suit with heels. I'm also about to have a bath and will do the full getting ready rigmorale - face of make up and hair styling etc.

I've prepared canapés then we're making our own pizzas for dinner. Have also prepared all the bits to have a dirty kebab later in the evening.

Oh and champagne. I'm trying my best here!

@finallyhere That sounds brilliant! We did a murder mystery via Zoom during the first lockdown, and it was so much fun (although interspersed with me running to throw up every ten minutes - I don't miss the first trimester 😂) - I hope you enjoy it!

@1FootInTheRave Oh no! We'll at least the thought was there I suppose! That's exactly the kind of thing I was fully expecting to happen to me on Xmas day. Hence I was back in PJ's to save myself the hassle by dinner time! 😂

@Missannelliot after a day in work I don't blame you! If I'd been dressed anywhere near as much as usual then I wouldn't have had to even question it. 😂 Enjoy your cocktails! I hope it's a lovely NYE for you!

All decided that we have a zoom dress code for tonight. Dressing up is compulsory.

Will probably be on here after that, so will join anyone by themselves who is watching shit tv. Even if you can't see me dressed up.

(And even if you are PJs you can pretend you are dressed to the nines).

That sounds amazing! Loving the dirty kebabs idea! If I was drinking I'd be putting a pile of cheese aside for a late night fancy cheese sandwich before I passed out. 😂

I know exactly what you mean about having nice things to wear and nowhere to go with them! I've got some really nice maternity dresses that I've been desperate to wear before he's born... otherwise I've splurged and it's nothing but a waste!

Enjoy your champagne - you definitely deserve it! 🥂

Enjoy your zooming! We tried to organise something here but I think everyone was a bit zoomed out after Xmas. 😂

Pretend dressing up I could definitely get on board with...I think I've been doing that in my head for weeks, but the illusion is spoiled when I catch a glimpse of myself. 😂

Sounds amazing! Very classy indeed! DH's honeymoon shirt is lovely, but definitely not black tie worthy. Might convince him into a nice suit jacket though...
