To ask whether you wrap stocking presents

DH and I having a lighthearted slightly gin-fuelled bicker as we sort the kids’ stockings.

Chez Waffles growing up all stocking presents were wrapped.

Chez DH they were not.

Of course my suggestion prevails —because I do most of the work— so our DC’s stocking presents are wrapped (albeit in tissue paper and loosely).

DH is in a grump about this and thinks it’s ridiculous even though he sees my point that it slows the DC down opening things. He just said: “This is just a weird Waffles family thing. I’m going to ask people at work whether they do this.”

Why ask people at work when you can ask a bigger sample?

So:

YABU - wrapping stocking presents is lunacy
YANBU - at course stocking presents are wrapped

I usually include a few unwrapped ones too but most wrapped.

Took · 24/12/2020 23:15

Wrapped! I know we all do things differently and its not wrong to leave them unwrapped but...

It’s wrong. It just is. 😆

stayathomegardener · 24/12/2020 23:16

Dd is 21 but Father Christmas still brings hers wrapped Wink

MrsLJ2014 · 24/12/2020 23:16

Mostly wrapped but haven't wrapped the chocolate coins or bath scrb thingy!

Littlemilkjug · 24/12/2020 23:16

Half and half here. Wrap anything vaguely interesting or anything that needs to be made interesting. So fun trinkets = wrapped, boring socks = wrapped etc.

But I don't wrap the bag of chocolate coins or the satsuma....

Nochristmasbreak · 24/12/2020 23:16

All wrapped here!
DHs and DS's, and DH has wrapped mine.

ouchmyfeet · 24/12/2020 23:16

YABU

BoJingle · 24/12/2020 23:16

We've been having this debate.

I'm pretty sure mine were wrapped and he says his were too, I just can't be bothered wrapping the little things as surely the stocking is the wrapping?

I've wrapped the two "bigger" stocking items, the rest are loose.

DD is two so we've not really had this consideration before.

MrDarcyismines · 24/12/2020 23:16

Definitely wrap!

BrumBoo · 24/12/2020 23:17

I haven't done a stocking this year (they had a Christmas eve box that I just put a couple of extras into. I've been ill and they're too young to care for both). However, unwrapped for both stocking and/or Xmas eve box. The stocking/box is like a 'lucky bag', wrapping is a total waste of effort.

EndemicPanda · 24/12/2020 23:17

Ours were wrapped growing up, although I do worry these days about waste. I've just wrapped DS's stocking presents up in some brown paper that came in the various parcel deliveries to try and avoid additional waste.

Fizbosshoes · 24/12/2020 23:17

Yes wrapped and I reserve different (hidden)paper that's only used for stockings . DH has no idea, I think he still believes in FC because it all happens by magic and is a surprise on xmas day!

Raindancer411 · 24/12/2020 23:17

Wrapped unless it's a sweet

DramaAlpaca · 24/12/2020 23:17

I wrap everything. Stupidly I left it all until today and it tooks me hours.

Luckyrabbitfoot · 24/12/2020 23:17

Never wrapped! I didn’t even know that was a thing!

cariadlet · 24/12/2020 23:18

Stocking presents were always unwrapped when I was growing up so it's never crossed my mind to wrap dd's stocking presents.

Trisolaris · 24/12/2020 23:18

Wrapped. I know a few people that do unwrapped and I don’t get it as it seems so dull!

indemMUND · 24/12/2020 23:18

Wrap them apart from the fruit. DD doesn't like oranges so I've done a different fruit every year. Working my way up to a watermelon Grin

Namechange170518 · 24/12/2020 23:18

All wrapped (badly). Except for the satsuma in the toe and the candy cane shaped pencil that looks quite cute sticking out of the top. Just getting it ready now before I go to bed. Husband will swap the filled stocking for the empty one when he comes up.

Pollypudding · 24/12/2020 23:19

Yes wrapped and I also use different paper! It just adds to the fun. Obviously don’t wrap the tangerine 🍊

Bluebell878275 · 24/12/2020 23:19

Ynbu.. all pressies are wrapped! I've never thought to not wrap them even if in a stocking.

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 24/12/2020 23:20

Wrapped. Only did it today and part of me wondered about whether to leave it but I wrapped them in the end.

RandomMess · 24/12/2020 23:20

I never got a stocking 😭

We wrapped them when younger but now they are mostly identical with a few different things each (3 DC still here) so I've packed them in the same order and instructions will be to unwrap simultaneously!

RandomMess · 24/12/2020 23:21

It's the sweets that aren't wrapped, a lot of bulky sweets!

Ifonlyicouldliveinmypjs · 24/12/2020 23:22

I also wrap in tissue paper - different colour for each child. I wrap them all in advance and so it makes it easy to know which presents need to go in which stocking. Got a bumper pack in Costco this year which should last me until they are teenagers!
