To ask whether you wrap stocking presents

BrowncoatWaffles · 24/12/2020 23:12

DH and I having a lighthearted slightly gin-fuelled bicker as we sort the kids’ stockings.

Chez Waffles growing up all stocking presents were wrapped.

Chez DH they were not.

Of course my suggestion prevails —because I do most of the work— so our DC’s stocking presents are wrapped (albeit in tissue paper and loosely).

DH is in a grump about this and thinks it’s ridiculous even though he sees my point that it slows the DC down opening things. He just said: “This is just a weird Waffles family thing. I’m going to ask people at work whether they do this.”

Why ask people at work when you can ask a bigger sample?

So:

YABU - wrapping stocking presents is lunacy
YANBU - at course stocking presents are wrapped

Used to but haven't this year. I'm trying to he less wasteful so use brown paper but even that felt a lot for small presents going out n a stocking so I didn't bother.

Wotsitsarecheesy · 25/12/2020 00:29

Definitely wrapped here too, except for the fruit and the chocolate coins. This year we didn't wrap the large bars of Dairy Milk either.

We also use different 'Father Christmas' paper that nothing else is wrapped in. We have always done the wrapping after the kid have gone to bed on Christmas Eve, so stocking presents are wrapped very quickly in cheapo paper.

All presents under the tree are wrapped nicely and are from us.

Larsingsong · 25/12/2020 00:42

Our stockings presents are wrapped.
But I've just filled our DD's stocking and I no idea what's in them!

I've just picked the presents from us and friends/family which fit in the stockings and left the main or larger presents downstairs.

I do that every year, it's pot luck.

@Fizbosshoes

Yes wrapped and I reserve different (hidden)paper that's only used for stockings . DH has no idea, I think he still believes in FC because it all happens by magic and is a surprise on xmas day!

I’m shook! I would never in a million years have had wrapped stocking fillers.

My two have just had their tat-filled stockings delivered and not a single thing is wrapped.

iluvsummer · 25/12/2020 01:00

Wrapped! I have 3 dc and use the striped paper bags for sweets from Amazon, different colour for each child, pop the gift in and tape! So easy and doesn’t take long at all. Adds to the excitement on Christmas morning. The stocking was always my favourite part of the day!

Glitterblue · 25/12/2020 01:09

Some wrapped, some not. I always do a cuddly toy unwrapped peeking out the top. I haven't wrapped the chocolate santa lolly, the round bottle of bubble bath or the pen with the fluffy pom pom on the end but everything else is wrapped.

Tea3 · 25/12/2020 01:15

Don't wrap anything!

Strokethefurrywall · 25/12/2020 01:29

Everything is wrapped here!

Coasterfan · 25/12/2020 01:50

The only thing I don’t wrap is the chocolate coins!

BrowncoatWaffles · 25/12/2020 03:39

@BabyYoda

My husband says unwrapped but we always had them wrapped. He’s a bit more MC and I’m firmly working class so wonder if that has an influence?
That would tally with us too - he is much posher than me!

Feeling vindicated with these results though Xmas Grin

Stocking gifts are wrapped. Stocking candy is not wrapped.

Wannabangbang · 25/12/2020 05:55

All wrapped here much more fun the opening of them all

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/12/2020 05:55

Wrapped here. We do stockings in our bed, and finding bits of wrapping paper in my bed tonight is one of my favourite bits.

OhToBeASeahorse · 25/12/2020 06:06

Wrapped!!

WilheminaVenable · 25/12/2020 06:11

Wrapped- it’s all about the ‘crunch’ when they feel the stocking and realise it’s full!

CharityEscapeGoat · 25/12/2020 06:40

Wrapped for anything that could vaguely be considered a proper present. So eye makeup (cheap bright ones are a good sub for face paint if they're allergic), little bits from smiggle, pretty hair ties or clips, etc. I drop chocolate coins, sprouts or other festive chocolate shapes in, a pack or two of instant milkshake straws, & often put a Christmas edition of a comic rolled up, or a lindt bear or santa at the top.

RickOShay · 25/12/2020 06:44

All wrapped in tissue paper
@stayathomegardener that’s the most beautiful wrapping ever, it’s like art. Merry Christmas!

SallyOMalley · 25/12/2020 06:52

@saraclara

Nothing is wrapped in a stocking. That's madness. The stocking is for delving into, pulling something out and immediately seeing what it is. It's a colourful cornucopia of tat and sweet stuff. Wrapping things up totally spoils the effect.

I'm astonished that the majority think you're reasonable. Wrapping makes the stocking REALLY boring.

Beautifully put!

Unwrapped here too. The we have a pillowcase next to the fire with wrapped stuff from Santa , and one of two under the tree from us.

We don't open the sacks until after breakfast. That's my family tradition which I was determined to keep - dh used to race down and tear it all open at silly o'clock 🙄

movingonup20 · 25/12/2020 06:53

Wrapped up except sweets

maverickallthetime · 25/12/2020 07:00

All wrapped in different paper (Father Christmas 🤣) except the chocolate Father Christmas, chocolate coins and satsuma!

maverickallthetime · 25/12/2020 07:02

@Dontlickthetrolley we do the half and half thing too!

beautifulmonument · 25/12/2020 07:05

YANBU
Gifts need to be wrapped, except for the Cadbury's stocking thingy and any fruit or nuts.
I buy a special secret roll of wrapping paper for stocking presents from Santa.

SpeckledyHen · 25/12/2020 07:06

Wrapped everything except chocolate 🍫 coins 🪙
