To ask whether you wrap stocking presents

BrowncoatWaffles · 24/12/2020 23:12

DH and I having a lighthearted slightly gin-fuelled bicker as we sort the kids’ stockings.

Chez Waffles growing up all stocking presents were wrapped.

Chez DH they were not.

Of course my suggestion prevails —because I do most of the work— so our DC’s stocking presents are wrapped (albeit in tissue paper and loosely).

DH is in a grump about this and thinks it’s ridiculous even though he sees my point that it slows the DC down opening things. He just said: “This is just a weird Waffles family thing. I’m going to ask people at work whether they do this.”

Why ask people at work when you can ask a bigger sample?

So:

YABU - wrapping stocking presents is lunacy
YANBU - at course stocking presents are wrapped

Non are wrapped this year, mainly because they are mostly sweets and other such treats, plus both DH & I were knackered and had enough wrapping.

I have put wrapped presents in in the past though.

vintageyoda · 24/12/2020 23:42

Wrapped.

Saisong · 24/12/2020 23:42

When I was a kid we had wrapped presents, but by that I mean scrunched in newspaper with no tape and stuffed in an actual wool stocking of my Mums - like a big long sausage.

So we have progressed to pillowcase sized bags with our kids. I used to (labouriously) wrap in different paper, but with half an eye on the environment impact, have stopped wrapping. They are teens now though, so don't need delaying from a 5am start!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 24/12/2020 23:45

Everything wrapped.

No fruit

I'm in my 30s if my mother gave me a Satsuma in my stocking I'd throw it at her (joke obviously...she'd never give me a satsuma)

Butterymuffin · 24/12/2020 23:46

Unwrapped. Best decision ever. So much easier. Plus as @BrumBoo says

The stocking/box is like a 'lucky bag', wrapping is a total waste of effort.

butteredbarmbrack · 24/12/2020 23:46

Non-wrapper here. Too much faff, and it wasn't a thing when I was a kid. DH is converted too!

Woulditbeworth · 24/12/2020 23:47

Don’t tell my DH it’s optional, he’d do anything to get out of if it. He is so much better at wrapping than me so is made to help.

Everyone saying, ‘everything but the fruit‘ has given me visions of people attempting to wrap a satsuma and it’s making me smile.

OzziePopPop · 24/12/2020 23:50

All wrapped apart from the chocolate coins 🎄⛄️🧑🏻‍🎄🌟

saraclara · 24/12/2020 23:51

Nothing is wrapped in a stocking. That's madness. The stocking is for delving into, pulling something out and immediately seeing what it is. It's a colourful cornucopia of tat and sweet stuff. Wrapping things up totally spoils the effect.

I'm astonished that the majority think you're reasonable. Wrapping makes the stocking REALLY boring.

BabyYoda · 24/12/2020 23:51

My husband says unwrapped but we always had them wrapped. He’s a bit more MC and I’m firmly working class so wonder if that has an influence?

Puffincrossing · 24/12/2020 23:52

Wrapped. We have 3 dc, each DC has a different wrapping paper. Their stocking gifts are wrapped in paper that matches their tree gifts. No writing labels and no accidentally opening of someone else's gift.

ShopTattsyrup · 24/12/2020 23:53

Half and half. Fun socks, little soap etc. Are wrapped. Bag of sweets or hot chocolate sachets unwrapped

Jimbellselmbath · 24/12/2020 23:54

Wrapped here. Anything else is Shock

tenlittlecygnets · 24/12/2020 23:55

No. No wrapping here

Grinchycrinchy · 24/12/2020 23:56

Wrap, even the individual satsumas.

Jayneisagirlsname · 24/12/2020 23:56

Wrapped of course! In special paper that is only used for stockings! It's part of the Christmas magic for me

NoJetter · 24/12/2020 23:57

All wrapped apart from chocolate coins

ItsJustAFridge · 24/12/2020 23:57

Always always wrapped.

M0mmyneedswine · 24/12/2020 23:57

Everything wrapped except the chocolate coins

Twillow · 24/12/2020 23:59

@Ifonlyicouldliveinmypjs

I also wrap in tissue paper - different colour for each child. I wrap them all in advance and so it makes it easy to know which presents need to go in which stocking. Got a bumper pack in Costco this year which should last me until they are teenagers!
Almost all wrapped. Above is a genius idea! I generally use all the awkward off cuts from wrapping other stuff - save it along with the wrapping paper rolls in one of those long under bed boxes.
Persephoned · 24/12/2020 23:59

Mix. Obvs not the satsuma and chocolate but nice for a few things to be wrapped in tissue

ceeveebee · 25/12/2020 00:00

No wrapping of stocking presents here

As an aside I was talking to someone at work last week who doesn’t wrap any big presents either, just puts in a big sack, due to the environmental impact of using wrapping paper. Guess they have a point but seems very sad for the DC

Bellbell1199 · 25/12/2020 00:00

I haven't this year, but DS is 2 and knows no different.
We always had our stockings wrapped so will do next year!

Bellagio40 · 25/12/2020 00:00

Definitely wrap

Suze1621 · 25/12/2020 00:01

Always wrapped ours except for chocolate coins/satsuma. Reckoned we got an extra half hour in bed while the kids opened them x
