Dog urinating on gate post

Passmetheselectionbox · 22/12/2020 18:01

Today I was trying to walk out of my front gate. However I had to step over a puddle of dog urine while the owner let her dog urinate on my gate post. The owner made no attempt to move her dog away and seemed to think her mobile phone conversation was much more important than respecting other people's property. She did not apologise - heaven forbid she would have to pause her phone conversation.

AIBU to think this is disgusting, selfish and rude of the dog owner?

OP posts:

You're going to be told that you can't possibly control where a dog pisses and YABU to think otherwise, but I think it's gross and antisocial.

MeredithGreysScalpel · 22/12/2020 18:03

Yes, YABU. That’s what dogs do 🤷🏻‍♀️ It doesn’t ruin your gatepost.

TeenageMutantNinjaCovid · 22/12/2020 18:04

So dog pissed on pavement?

KnitsAndGiggles · 22/12/2020 18:04

My god get a grip - it's not going to hurt you

TeenageMutantNinjaCovid · 22/12/2020 18:04

It is lucky- like when a pigeon craps on your head.

TheMandalorian · 22/12/2020 18:05

Oh yeh everyone wants a gate smelling of piss. Wash it down with some cleaning solution and then set up something that smells horrible for dogs on it.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 22/12/2020 18:06

The dog's just marking its territory.

By the time you get home, it'll have moved in!

Laiste · 22/12/2020 18:08

Awkward to be standing there with your dog pissing up someone else's property while they are right there. Dog owner should have acknowledged it and offered an apology.

WorraLiberty · 22/12/2020 18:08

Unless you're a dog, you wouldn't be able to smell it though Confused

OP I couldn't get fussed about this as it probably happens every time a dog/fox wanders past your gate.

Out of interest, what did you say to the dog owner?

LisaLee333 · 22/12/2020 18:09

One word.

VINEGAR!

@Passmetheselectionbox Spray vinegar around the area.

Some dog owners (not all) are inconsiderate individuals who think nothing of letting their mutt piss and shit all over footpaths and people gateposts and fences.

Spray distilled vinegar around your gate post and the general area. Puts the dogs right off. Only 29p a bottle from Aldi.

Some dog owners REALLY fuck me off.

gamerchick · 22/12/2020 18:09

It's just leaving a pee mail. Squirt it with something dogs don't like.

Laiste · 22/12/2020 18:09

But then dog owners seem to think that anything relating to their pet is fair enough.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 22/12/2020 18:10

Next door got a bee in their bonnet about my dog crapping on their doorstep.

No amount of explaining it wasn't him/me did anything to persuade her she was wrong.

Yesterday she saw it happen.

The fox she has been feeding....

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/12/2020 18:10

I wouldn't let my dog do it.

January21 · 22/12/2020 18:11

lol vinegar does nothing! might put off the odd dog but its no magic cure

what you need is a bit of rain, problem solved

Xmassprout · 22/12/2020 18:11

Dogs often urinate over other smells, so your post was probably a bit pissy before that dog owner came along anyway

LastTrainEast · 22/12/2020 18:11

Can't blame the dog, but rub the owners nose in it to train them not to allow it again.

LastTrainEast · 22/12/2020 18:13

Xmassprout I'm going to use that to explain why I pissed through my neighbours letter box. They haven't polished it for ages so what can they expect?

LisaLee333 · 22/12/2020 18:13

Errr yeah it does. Vinegar DOES work.

You think RAIN will stop the dogs pissing and shitting on footpaths, but vinegar won't?

Oooooooookay....

GreyMary23 · 22/12/2020 18:14

I don't think I'm an entitled dog owner but I do think this is a ridiculous thing to get worked up over. We live on a planet which we have to share with animals, both domestic and wild. Do you get this upset when a bird craps on your window? I saw a squashed frog in the middle of road the other day, how dare it die there and upset my poor delicate eyes!

Dog wee outdoors will cause minimal smell or damage. Dog poo on the other hand is gross and it's a pet hate when people don't pick up after their dogs.

There really are far far worse things to worry about right now.

Omeara · 22/12/2020 18:15

I think the poster meant the rain would wash it away rather than rain being a deterrent!

LisaLee333 · 22/12/2020 18:17

No she didn't say that, and didn't MEAN that.
