Dog urinating on gate post

Passmetheselectionbox · 22/12/2020 18:01

Today I was trying to walk out of my front gate. However I had to step over a puddle of dog urine while the owner let her dog urinate on my gate post. The owner made no attempt to move her dog away and seemed to think her mobile phone conversation was much more important than respecting other people's property. She did not apologise - heaven forbid she would have to pause her phone conversation.

AIBU to think this is disgusting, selfish and rude of the dog owner?

Someone on this thread definitely has a bee in their bonnet...

MsPeachh · 22/12/2020 18:23

People who let their dog pee on your wheelie bin 😡

Nottherealslimshady · 22/12/2020 18:26

I dont let my dog wee on peoples gates or at the entrances to houses. It belongs on public streets not private property I think.

Someone watched their dog cock their leg up in my car and piss on it and I think that's disgusting.

emilyfrost · 22/12/2020 18:28

YANBU but dog owners have no hygiene boundaries 🤷‍♀️

'in your car'! That is disgusting or was it a typo.

Dogs love peeing up things Confused

It's THEIR THING - preferably where other dogs have pissed Confused

Flowerpot345 · 22/12/2020 18:34

I wouldn't let my dog do it, some people are just annoying, antisocial, dickheads.

vanillandhoney · 22/12/2020 18:34

If the dog is peeing there, it's probably because loads of other dogs have peed there.

I try my best to stop mine peeing up things but that doesn't stop him giving it a good go! Dogs mark and communicate via their pee.

honeyytoast · 22/12/2020 18:35

Do you have an issue with wild animals doing the same thing?

ineedaholidaynow · 22/12/2020 18:38

If they pulled him away he might have ended up peeing on your leg if you were standing there!

GreyMary23 · 22/12/2020 18:40

@LisaLee333 in what way? In the way that I can't get worked up about dogs or other animals pissing outdoors? Literally where else are they meant to go?! 😂

If I saw my dog weeing on someone's gate or property I would remove them. But I really cannot understand how people get so upset over something that causes zero ill effects. Boredom perhaps?

Flowerpot345 · 22/12/2020 18:41

Wild animals arent pets with owners in control.
My dogs don't pee on others properties because I purposely don't let them near other people's property it's not rocket science Confused
If you can't control your dog don't have one.

luckylavender · 22/12/2020 18:43

I agree with you OP. Really antisocial behaviour. Squirt the bloody owner with vinegar.

devildeepbluesea · 22/12/2020 18:44

I wouldn't let my dog do this, but it fucks me off no end when humans act like they're the only creatures who have a right to exist on this planet.

Gottalovesummer · 22/12/2020 18:48

I'm with you OP

And all of you saying to chill out, I take it you've never had dog piss over your shoes boo buggy wheels and then walked/wheeled it (unknowingly) through your house.

It's disgusting.

Will give the vinegar a go.

Lockheart · 22/12/2020 18:50

The outdoors is generally mucky. Dirt, car fumes, bird poo, excretions of other animals, moss and algae, human litter. Human vomit on a surprising number of pavements.

Dog pee isn't worse or better than any of these.

Don't eat your dinner off it and you'll be fine.

CaptainCabinets · 22/12/2020 18:51

@LisaLee333 you okay there hun?

WiddlinDiddlin · 22/12/2020 18:53

I try to avoid it but some male dogs are extremely good at the swift squirt scent mark, which is rarely sufficient to leave a puddle.

If my dog did actually leave a puddle on someones gateway/car/front door, I'd dump a bottle of water over it as I would have water on me, not a lot more I can do about it than that though.

I try to ensure mine are using bushes, lampposts etc.

It is more than just dogs doing it though, cats are pissing all over a ton of stuff outside, foxes are, around here deer will piss up stuff and also rub the oily glands on their heads on fenceposts, gates, cars, badgers and foxes will decorate stuff with strategically placed turds...

Basically if it remains stationary overnight, something is going to rub, spray or squirt some revolting bodily secretion upon it.

I really can't get worked up about the odd dog pissing on my car tyre when I have seen muntjac rub their faces on it, foxes piss on it, cats piss on it... I have got better things to do with my energy really!

vanillandhoney · 22/12/2020 18:54

It is grim, but how is it any worse than anything else on the pavements and streets? Wild animal pee and poo, oil leaks, muck, dirt, germs from car tyres, split food and drink, sick, human wee etc.

That's why we're a "shoes off" household but I suspect that will start a whole new debate Grin

LoveMySituation · 22/12/2020 18:57

The entitled family of the dog next door let their dog piss on next door's tree, opposite house's truck wheel, and I caught them yesterday with an extendable lead stretching from theirs across my drive, with the dog pissing on my bush, next to my door, at the end of it! This is in a small cul de sac with open front gardens overlooked by kitchen windows! The sheer brazeness was shocking

Boxerdogmum · 22/12/2020 18:59

If it was a puddle of dog urine they must live near you dogs don't walk for miles and hold it in . Mine does a big piss within the first 5 mins then phantom squirts for another half mile. I actually feel bad for her she doesn't save it up and release it in equal bits along the route. Anyway point is Dog owner is local so should be fine to ask if she could stop her dog leaving puddles on your path.

Passmetheselectionbox · 22/12/2020 18:59

@PolPotNoodle

You're going to be told that you can't possibly control where a dog pisses and YABU to think otherwise, but I think it's gross and antisocial.
Yes, I agree it's antisocial. Some people only care about themselves and their own convenience.

Good lord, what is wrong with some dog owners. They give responsible dog owners a bad name.

@LastTrainEast

Can't blame the dog, but rub the owners nose in it to train them not to allow it again.
