Perfume has become Ridiculously Expensive

A few years ago 30ml bottles were around the £35 - 40 mark and people expected to pay £60 - 70 for a 50ml bottle ,
But now it's difficult to find anything of quality for under £80
And that's for the smallest size.
Now I realise that there's inflation, but surely not this big a jump.
It's pure greed and I won't be buying any mote perfume for myself or presents for family for a long time. I cant afford to any more and i speak as a perfume lover.
Usually I've bought lots from Boots and HoF by now.

They're taking the piss surely?
Are people really willing to fork out over a 100 quid on a small bottle of, lets face it, chemicals
and we can't even test before we buy !

@Toddlerteaplease

Am I allowed admit that aged 39, I've always loved M&S florentina
You are. I love it in the summer. It’s a lovely floral.

That's really nice though - and such good value too! Thinking about it, I'd rather give my money to M&S than an overpriced designer house, keeping M&S afloat means keeping more people in jobs so on that basis, it is even less unreasonable to like Florentyna.

I love Dot by MJ too......eBay is your friend here. I've bought my last 2 bottles there paying no more than £25 each.

@TheSilentStars ah yes- I do know you! I think I can figure out who you are from the description and I remember that you didn’t like 4160T. I’m not that keen either but I did fall for rhubarb and citrus / vanilla custard (better than they sound!). I was active 2-5 years ago on the PM threads. But I agree - the fruity ones not my cup of tea either and smell quite lush-like which I’m not into

Another way to cut the cost is to buy part used bottles on eBay

There is a big market for part used bottles. So it’s quite lucrative to eBay any perfume you’re not using.

Perfume doesn’t ‘go off’ as a previous poster suggested, it doesn’t spoil and smell bad, but if it’s been stored in daylight or a warm bathroom then the top notes might smell weaker.

I have purchased lots of used bottles for c.£20-£30 which would be £80 to £100 full price. And they’re absolutely fine. So that’s a good way to save if you have expensive taste. Except for Chanel as the company is quite aggressive as they don’t ever discount their perfumes.

TK Maxx is a good place to look for bargain high end perfumes.

Really? Oh that's fab thank you so much! Smile

I love Alien Mugler, 2yrs ago I got the refillable bottles and ever since then a 100ml bottle is £80 so I get x3 30ml out of it. They haven't seemed to change the price on it either which is great. I think more perfumes should do the refillable bottle idea. Quite cost effective.

YANBU
I don't buy anywhere near as much perfume as i used to as it's just so overpriced.
