On the kidney transplant thing, you can have up to 5 kidneys in at once (people have multiple transplants due to rejection)

I can't change a tyre either, I honestly wouldn't know where to start.

Feminist10101 · 05/12/2020 21:18

Come on, you expect us to believe that you don't understand why everyone's not training their children in all trades?

Do you know many real people?

Thousands. And as a senior HR professional I despair at a large percentage of them.

OwlBeThere · 05/12/2020 21:18

@Eckhart really?! I’ve realised I’m quite stupid when it comes to animals other than ones you have on a farm because I was raised on one 😂

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/12/2020 21:19

Recently, I thought Groundhog Day was just a silly made up movie. But recently I found out that in the US Groundhog Day is for real. There is an actual groundhog that they monitor and then announce whether winter will be long or short based on what the official groundhog does.
They have Christian priests and stuff officiating and doing the announcement even though it all seems pretty pagan to me to be looking for “omens” from a ground hog.

Lurchermom · 05/12/2020 21:19

I though Abersoch was some kind University Society for years. I kept rolling my eyes when my DH's aunt and cousins kept saying they were off to Abersoch for a weekend as I thought it was some kind of university hangover. Took me far too long to realise it was actually a place.

SquishSquashSqueeze · 05/12/2020 21:19

@TheChippendenSpook

I didn't know until this week that the Statue of Liberty was made of copper and was therefore originally copper coloured and it turned to its greeny colour over time.
Really? I thought it was made of concrete and shat on by birds/a bit algaefied. Off to Google...

I only found out a couple of years ago that you wish a merry christmas to you and your kin, and not your King.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 05/12/2020 21:21

Until a few months ago my husband thought the ozone layer was a nightclub ffs
⬆️Haha I’m really sniggering at the utter fuckwittery of that

Lovemusic33 · 05/12/2020 21:21

@Ohdoleavemealone

Anything to do with cars. Can't change tyres, check oil or even pop the bonnet!

As a side, I recently discovered that the pressure cooker makes the best rice with the least effort.

Isn’t this a part of the driving test now to know how to change a tire? What do you do when your oil light.comes on or you need washer liquid? Surely knowing these thing is pretty important 🤣
picklemewalnuts · 05/12/2020 21:22

@Hurryupbaby11
It's definitely daddy!
Either that, or mummy's being very naughty!

@00100001

I didn't know that a pony is just a small horse until a year ago or so.

I thought ponies were different animals, a bit like a donkey is different, but similar to the horse.

Are they not?
Wheresmykimchi · 05/12/2020 21:24

@anothernamereally

Those of you thinking 'knights' what did you think they were never reaching the end of?

Surely it IS 'you've got another thing coming' not 'think' ????

I can't think of any right now... there will be hundreds but I'm blissfully ignorant of them

It's think But I've always said thing!

Not mine, but this thread has reminded me and it's made me laugh all over again. I was meeting a friend for coffee once and she rang me to say she was running late as couldn't park, I said there had been plenty of spaces in the retail park car park and she said she couldn't park there as she would only be 45 mins as had to do school run. I questioned what she meant and she genuinely thought the "no return within 2 hours" parking sign meant she couldn't return to her car, not that she couldn't leave and come back and park there again within 2 hours. It was so bloody fun to see her realise it. Apparently she used to set a timer on her phone when shopping to make sure she didn't leave the car park too soon and get fined Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/12/2020 21:24

I thought it was knights. I’m sure I saw something about knights on horses. For so many of us to be thinking that way there has to be a visual reason.

JetBlackSteed · 05/12/2020 21:25

Knights in white satin - depends what age you are.
Giorgio Moroder released the same song with the K in the title, so that may explain why everyone thinks its Knights not Nights.

00100001 · 05/12/2020 21:25

@Wheresmykimchi

Nope. Ponies are just horses. Not their own species.

@grey12

I had the idea that Winston Churchill was american BlushGrin

(Disclaimers: not born in the uk and hate history!!!)

I don't know, I just thought he had more flair than the english people I knew, with the cigar and all. Maybe kind of Capone style

Not quite, his mother was American though.
ThatDamnKrampus · 05/12/2020 21:28

@YellowEllis

It always blows my mind that when you have a kidney transplant they leave your original kidneys where they are and put the new one in your pelvis. I thought my husband was having me on but it's true.
I didn't know the pony/horse thing.

But this about the kidneys has just blown my mind completely! Shock

Well I answered the right questions at the beginning of my driving test but thereafter had a father, boyfriend, car garage and worst case AA membership (sorry feminism, eek) to resolve such issues. I’m hopelessly impractical and was never taught these ‘life skills’ by my parents.

DH is very handy and will be teaching the DC as I recognize being handy in general is a good life skill, but as an adult I always earned sufficiently well that it just made sense to pay people who knew what they were doing to do practical things for me. Since we bought our money pit of a house I am so grateful I don’t have to hire people for every little thing and DH can do it. Not advocating ignorance at all, but some people are taught things growing up and other people aren’t, I don’t really see it as being reflective of someone’s character.

So... how does your body know which one is the one that works?
FoxyTheFox · 05/12/2020 21:32

The one that is plumbed in/connected up is the one that works. The rest are just there but not wired in.
