AIBU?

£50 IKEA delivery charge!

I needed to order something from IKEA and can’t get to a store. The order was £65 for a flat packed desk

Upon checking out the delivery charge was £40 for 4 working days or £50 for 3.

Aibu that this is shameless profiteering given many people are avoiding the shops at the moment?

Yabu, as they can charge what they like and it's up to you if you want to pay it, however please also remember that that charge covers, fuel, insurance. Wages, holiday pay, sick pay, pensions, outlay costs of vehicles, maintenance, wear and tear. The list goes on
Also, remember that this is a business and not a charity, and they are out to make a profit, not run at a loss to enable you to have items you don't want to or can't collect.

It's not their problem if you don't drive - get a friend to collect for you if you don't want to pay
Don't have a big enough vehicle - hire one, but will probably cost you more.
Too sacred to leave the house - your issue get counselling to help with those irrational feelings, although again this will cost more then delivery

@Oooohbehave

YABU. The reason Ikea is so cheap is that you pick it yourself from the warehouse. Might be worth asking if anyone nearby needs anything so you can do a bulk order and spilt the delivery cost.

This ^^
That's the whole point of IKEA! you go there yourself and take the flat packs home.
The delivery charge has always been very high as it's not what they do.

Good idea about the split cost

It's always been expensive for delivery. I've had to play the try to squeeze it in the car game many a time!

We ordered some new bedroom furniture for DS recently, a triple wardrobe and two bedside tables. Delivery was great, they delivered to his room and the next morning we got someone from task rabbit to put it all together. Well worth the money if you are buying multiple items.

Zombie thread but actually very informative, so I am not mad
Grin

I have to furnish my new flat so those poor guys at Ikea will have to deal with a huge order to deliver, and £50 is actually a good deal in this case.
