Someone posted this in a group I am in, and I find it really offensive AIBU?!

OP posts:
VulvaPerson · 28/11/2020 13:28

Poor taste but fairly usual, and no i don't find it offensive..just quite..pathetic

D4rwin · 28/11/2020 13:29

I hate this shit having always been large. Though I do find less comments if I avoid older men. I would say it is too much when you deal with this sort of objectification on a daily basis. Its part of the offensive notion women are there to be groped. Passed for a whole genre of comedy in 1960.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 28/11/2020 13:30

The joke isn’t just about the women having big breasts but the man looking so embarrassed by this it’s the awkwardness that is also part of the joke

Yes it’s dated but why would I get upset over something so silly

knittingaddict · 28/11/2020 13:30

On reflection the artist in the previous thread is a much better artist than the one in this thread.

ArranBound · 28/11/2020 13:31

YANBU. It objectifies women. It's dated and very inappropriate.

SmudgeButt · 28/11/2020 13:34

@ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN

White people blacking up is comparable to a joke a man is making about fruit

Oh ok Hmm

Yes - both are offensive.
GabsAlot · 28/11/2020 13:40

doesnt bother me but i watch carry on films still

Besom · 28/11/2020 13:40

It's the least funny thing I've seen since 1978.

It is sexist so yanbu.

Turtleturtle81 · 28/11/2020 13:42

It’s dated and crass. I thought this kind of crap had been left in the past. I’m a bit embarrassed for anyone that actually finds this funny.

UsernameChat · 28/11/2020 13:49

I'm really surprised that over 80% of respondents thing YABU. This is really offensive and there is no longer a place for this type of 'humour'. My heart sinks when I realise how little the women's movement has moved forward.

Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 13:54

@UsernameChat same Sad
@AmelieTaylor

Write to Jim’ll Fix It while you are there 👍🏻
😂 haha, good one, OP!

Maireas · 28/11/2020 14:15

@UsernameChat. Absolutely.

Meraas · 28/11/2020 14:16

@iklboogeymum

So women who get raped are asking for it are they?

Write to Jim’ll Fix It while you are there 👍🏻

Your comments are far more offensive than the postcard.

I don’t think you understand what OP’s comments mean @iklboogeymum
Thefirsttime · 28/11/2020 14:18

@UsernameChat
Me too. Depressing isn’t it?

OP I don’t think you’re being at all unreasonable finding this offensive. I find it sad that because it is a sexist “joke” it’s apparently not offensive.

@MrsKoala that’s really interesting. What degree did you do to do a module on that type of postcard.

Meraas · 28/11/2020 14:18

@NoPainNoTartine

ever considered it might not be because of your clothes or your hair colour?

What a horrible comment. Reported.

Meraas · 28/11/2020 14:21

@NoPainNoTartine

You know nothing about the way I look, so stop assuming anything about me and accusing me of "gaslighting" hmm

I don’t think you understand what gaslighting means.

the sarcasm completely went over your head, but never mind, it makes it even more ironic.

I think that poster perfectly understood how nasty you were bring, and I reported you too.

Meraas · 28/11/2020 14:23

@iklboogeymum

I am glad someone saw my Jim’ll Fix It comment for what it truly was.

I saw it for what it truly was. It's still offensive.

So funny how everyone telling people to get a sense of humour are offended by the Jimmy comment.
AwaAnBileYerHeid · 28/11/2020 14:23

It does come across that you're looking for something to be offended by, OP. There are lots of things out there in the world to glean offence from, if this is what you want.

Meraas · 28/11/2020 14:26

@NoPainNoTartine

Hang on a minute. You are upset that something you posted as funny was found offensive by other people even though you didn’t mean it to be offensive. You are annoyed that people have been offended by something that you don’t agree is offensive.

Do you not see the irony here?

Star

exactly

Except that OP isn’t annoyed. Confused
Meraas · 28/11/2020 14:27

@Besswess88

I have explained the reason for my Jim”ll Fix It comment which was in reply to someone longing to go back to the 70s where it was legal to rape your wife, domestic abuse was considered something we should put up with and people turned a blind eye to “kiddy fiddlers”.

I found that pretty offensive that someone would long to be back in those days.

Don’t worry OP, anyone with half a brain understood your point.
Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 14:28

I am definitely not looking to be offended.

I am quite the opposite actually and quite a resilient person and I am not easily offended.

Maybe offended was the wrong word, it was just incredibly inappropriate and it does depress me a bit when I see the comments sections on social media and the like, that we seem to be nation of racist, sexist bigots and if you point it out you get called a snowflake.

OP posts:
MrsKoala · 28/11/2020 14:29

@Thefirsttime I did History of Art and design. The whole module wasn’t on the postcards but more on representations of women. I also did another module which focussed on representations of black people (I wrote specifically about representations of black men in homosexual erotic photography). And another one on fetishisation (hair and body hair in popular culture etc). It was all very interesting. I also did the bog standard landscapes in the industrial revolution etc type modules.

Besswess88 · 28/11/2020 14:33

@MrsKoala that sounds really interesting.

OP posts:
Maireas · 28/11/2020 14:35

@Besswess88, you don't have to apologise or defend yourself. Those people who think it's just a bit of harmless fun may well also defend stereotypical and/or degrading images of gay people and black people in that era.
