To think Rebekah Vardy has no chance?

Her case hinges on claiming someone has somehow hacked her account; be that someone she employs or someone who has somehow done it at random. Colleen Rooney very, very deliberately (and now infamously) stated ‘It’s... Rebekah Vardy’s account’.

She’s suing for libel, yet she hasn’t been personally accused. That wording was not an accident. Surely unless she can somehow prove that the fake stories were not accessed via her account, she has no case?

@PaperTowels

I think at the time the Sun said it had contacted Rooney's office to get a response to the stories but never had an answer

And now we know why! So Coleen has also manipulated the press, allowing stories she knew were false to be printed, all in aid of her little "sting". Which is now costing her thousands and thousands of pounds, as well as some of her own reputation. Well done Coleen!

Do they often give responses to The Sun when they are contacted about Coleen and her family?

Or is it normal for her "people" to say "No comment, fuck off"?

Jesus, I had no idea about this whole thing until reading this thread and I cannot understand why people like you @PaperTowels dislike this woman so much.

Nikhedonia · 21/11/2020 10:55

I don't think The Sun can take the moral high ground over stories that are false being printed. It's a story about a basement flooding,it's not exactly cutting edge journalism

user1471565182 · 21/11/2020 11:00

Coleen's actually fine, shes had quiet dignity throughout her husband treating her like dirt. people on here dislike her because of her lowly background. Vardy is just awful, on the other hand.

user1471565182 · 21/11/2020 11:00

*Coleen is

ThePinkGuitar · 21/11/2020 11:06

I don’t particularly like either of them but I do think that RV wouldn’t have gone this far unless she knew she hadn’t done it.
Also I think cr should have not ‘outed’ RV whilst she was expecting seeing the distress from RV at that time in interviews etc she was clearly affected I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

I don't "like" or "dislike" either of them. I'm just judging Coleen for not being as clever as she thought she was.

Equally, the OP (and others) clearly don't like RV, this thread was basically started to slag her off and they did that for the first few pages, until it turned out she was in a better position legally than they thought she was. But I don't see you criticising them?! Hmm

Agreed! This whole situation started because Coleen wanted to create a big fuss, instead of quietly dealing with it behind closed doors.
Bluntness100 · 21/11/2020 12:06

I’m not sure. The phrase me thinks she doth protest too much comes to mind.

Cavagirl · 21/11/2020 12:19

I was just thinking this. She must have absolute balls of steel if she did it.
Then again, maybe she's guilty and hoping Coleen will settle because she wants the money. And I'm not sure what the implications of the accusation was for RV financially - did she lose work etc because of it? If so maybe she just felt she didn't have much to lose, even if she was guilty.
I'll be quite disappointed if it gets settled out of court now Grin

user1471565182 · 21/11/2020 12:53

If you know anything about Vardy, you know she blatantly did it.

Cavagirl · 21/11/2020 12:58

@user1471565182 if she's guilty then do you just think she's being massively ballsy bringing the legal action then, hoping to get off somehow? Why risk it? It seems like a very bold thing to do if you're guilty as sin... I can't make up my mind on this one!

user1481840227 · 21/11/2020 13:02

@Bluntness100

I wonder if they will work out who it was as part of the court case if it wasn’t vardy. That’s the easiest way to prove her innocence.

The big thing here is the sun knows. They will know exactly who was leaking it to them. This isn’t something that no one knows who did it. They were publishing those stories because they trusted the source and knew it wasn’t some random making shit up.

And they are watching this play out, knowing either vardy is lying or Colleen has it wrong.

Part of me thinks that because they have said nothing it was vardy, because otherwise they would just say we protect our sources and it wasn’t her. Vardy would have her lawyers on at them to confirm it was not her. As that would be an easy fix. But she’s not.

If I was innocent my first statement would be, it’s not me and the sun can confirm it and my lawyers are in touch with them to provide a legal statement confirming it was not me.

I don't think the Sun would have said that they protect their sources and that it wasn't her. I don't think that's something that they do.

If that was your first statement and then the SUN refused to confirm it wasn't you (even if it wasn't) then trial by social media would have you hung, drawn and quartered so I personally think that would be a dangerous first statement!

user1481840227 · 21/11/2020 13:08

In a film, it would be the newspaper journos themselves who told CR - doing so in order to get a bigger story and told her how to put in place the sting.

Someone mentioned a newspaper possibly being involved in the sting earlier too...but surely in that case the sting not have been done in such a way then that would have led the SUN to get an exclusive reveal about the sting?

user1471565182 · 21/11/2020 13:18

Like I said before, I think shes just doing a big showy over reaction to make people think 'well if shes trying that hard, she must be innocent', as well as trying to cause chaos to cause confusion. I think everybody has seen a bitchy type do it when theyre caught out badly The money involved is pennies for both of them.

user1471565182 · 21/11/2020 13:19

Jamie Vardy is on £140,000 a week.

user1471565182 · 21/11/2020 13:22

And Wayne Rooney was on 300,000 a week at his height and around 50,000 a week now

Well, all speculation, of course, but the newspaper could hardly act in such a way to signal that they don't protect sources. They might be now getting Rooney 24 carat gold info from the family itself, in exchange for tipping off CR.
Perhaps it's another newspaper, then. I can't see someone trusting a sting and exposing a friend as 'the villain' unless the workings of the sting were being engineered by someone very experienced in this specialist area.

I don’t know either of them. Never heard of RV before this only vaguely of CR. But if has convinced me of CR’s poor judgment as the ‘revelation’ was clearly libellous and potentially very hard to prove.

Quiet dignity? Where is the dignity in allowing herself to be treat in that way by her husband, he has repeatedly humiliated her. Great role model for their sons.. not.

@user1481840227 - the sun does protect its sources.
@user1481840227 - the sun does protect its sources.
That's what I thought so in response to the other poster I assumed that protecting its sources doesn't involve clearing other people who were accused and saying that they were not the source?

The poster said her first statement would be If I was innocent my first statement would be, it’s not me and the sun can confirm it and my lawyers are in touch with them to provide a legal statement confirming it was not me

I would think it would be very unwise to assume that the SUN would clear your name, even with lawyers involved! The poster described Vardy having her lawyers onto them as an 'easy fix' but I very much doubt that is the case!
The thing is if someone mistakenly believed that the SUN would clear their name and made a statement to that effect and then the SUN didn't get involved there would be a section of trolls or people who see that as evidence that Vardy was in fact guilty!!

That is just obscene.

unmarkedbythat · 21/11/2020 17:07

So nothing happens now til February? Can Rooney appeal the finding the judge made on Friday? And on who is the onus to prove what if this continues... Rooney to prove her saying what she did was ok because it is true, or Vardy to prove it is libellous because it is not true?

unmarkedbythat · 21/11/2020 17:08

Sorry, that was a bit of an incoherent post reading it back Blush

Rooney. Vardy only has to prove that she has suffered damage to her reputation, in order to bring the case. Rooney has to prove what she said was true, or use an alternative defence such as fair comment.
