And I'm off....

On a coffee break and I was taking a look at Facebook. Now I'm a mess of tears. I wasn't ready for this. I hadn't even got my Lidl Stollen...

I'm going to need more hankies if this is the way all Christmas ads go...

Yup the Amazon one set me off the other day, and I detest them!

PizzaForOne · 12/11/2020 10:48

People cry at adverts?

lazyarse123 · 12/11/2020 10:48

Thanks for that. Now i'm going to have find a tissue. 😁

VettiyaIruken · 12/11/2020 10:49

They just annoy me. Competition to see who can make the most 'moving' advert. It feels so cynical and manipulative of them.

I clearly have a heart of stone. 😁

newlabelwriter · 12/11/2020 10:52
it didn't make me cry but the Coca Cola ad this year is rather lovely.
TrickorTreacle · 12/11/2020 10:53

I only have internet in this house. No TV. Install uBlock Origin web browser (on phone + laptop). No ads.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2020 10:57

I have never cried at an advert. I hate how long the Christmas adverts are too, once you've seen it you don't need to see it again.

Tenyearsgone · 12/11/2020 11:03

I've never cried at a christmas advert in my life.

Sparklingbrook · 12/11/2020 11:04

I don't really understand why they want us to cry at adverts. Not very Christmassy is it? Make us laugh or something.

PoppyOppy · 12/11/2020 11:08

I still tear up when I hear the music to the Bear and Hare John Lewis advert from 2013 Blush

Tenyearsgone · 12/11/2020 11:09

Yes I'd rather see a funny Ad. The mawkish over sentimental ones just make me roll my eyes.

Autumn101 · 12/11/2020 11:11

Bit of a tear at the Coca Cola one - DH is working overseas and due home for Christmas, DC and I miss him terribly so that one resonates with me!

squiggleirl · 12/11/2020 11:18

newlabelwriter that made me cry too! I think it may be some left over soppiness from the first one, as I was thinking at one point 'ah c'mon', but next thing there were tears.

I'm going to be a wreck!

I think the Supervalu one made me cry because they were talking on the radio this morning about whether or not we'll be at Level 2 or 3 for Christmas. My parents are planning on coming to us for Christmas, but as they live in another county, we need to be at Level 2 for that to happen. I've spent so much of this year not being able to see my parents. I miss them and my kids miss them. Fingers crossed we're going to be that family waiting for Granny and Grandad to arrive.

OMG just wait till the this years John Lewis ad airs. I've read a couple of feeds about it being super teary this year. One man and his Dog 💔😢

Balaur · 12/11/2020 12:02

Oh god I feel totally manipulated by these ads because I DO get a lump in my throat but really, it's all about selling us stuff isn't it? And brands.

DaddysGirlForLife · 12/11/2020 12:05

I love sobbing at a christmas advert. Haha.

I watched the McDonald's one last night which I thought was great. Not a tear jerker though.

Mountainpika · 12/11/2020 12:10

If I'm unfortunate enough to see one, I laugh my head off at the manipulative mawkishness.

WhispersOfWickedness · 12/11/2020 12:12

I love Christmas ads Smile
Although that Coca Cola ad... weren't all his colleagues wondering where he'd gone - "'ere, boss, Brian's fucked off in the dinghy and not come back, he's left us with all the work to do!" Grin

eosmum · 12/11/2020 12:16

I saw that Supervalu one yesterday and snots and tears here. The Dunnes one annoys me, you'd think they could make another one after some any years.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 12/11/2020 12:23

The one man and his dog video is an amateur charity fundraiser. Good cause.

The video had me in stitches though, not tears. Visual glurge.

YewandOak · 12/11/2020 12:23

You and me both.
AbsintheFriends · 12/11/2020 12:23

I thought the same about the Coca-Cola one Whispers. Just as well that's all the little girl wanted for Christmas, because things are going to be tight now daddy's been fired for stealing a dingy and going AWOL to look for Santa.

VinylDetective · 12/11/2020 12:29

Oh, damn you, OP! Just watched the SuperValu one and have wet eyes.

sapnupuas · 12/11/2020 12:30

The Disney one set me off.

Fairyliz · 12/11/2020 12:39

I’m just disgusted at how much they cost. The John Lewis one with Elton John how much did he get paid?
Surely the spirit of Christmas would be a Christmassy picture with a message saying they have given over inflated salaries to charity.
