And so begins the annual sobbing at ads...

And I'm off....

On a coffee break and I was taking a look at Facebook. Now I'm a mess of tears. I wasn't ready for this. I hadn't even got my Lidl Stollen...

I'm going to need more hankies if this is the way all Christmas ads go...

Until today the only Christmas Ad that had brought me to tears was the Edeka one a few years ago. However, have now cried to the SuperValu one, Coca Cola, even McDonalds . Although I am pregnant and am currently crying over any and everything, so blaming it on that.

ZolaGrey · 12/11/2020 12:49

I've not cried at an advert, Christmas or otherwise. I can see how people do though, they just must be nicer people than me!

I do think they're getting a bit extreme though, give it ten years and John Lewis will have exhausted all the sad avenues and they'll just put out three minutes of kittens being drowned by David Attenborough with Ed Sheeran singing in the background.

HaudMaDug · 12/11/2020 13:10

@Hollyhocksarenotmessy

The one man and his dog video is an amateur charity fundraiser. Good cause.

The video had me in stitches though, not tears. Visual glurge.

Gave up trying to get it to play on my dodgy phone and must have misread the JL info. Love some of the charity rip off ads as they are usually more in the xmas spirit 🍷. Summarised story sounded so sad. Will look for it later on my comp. If I laugh I'll donate.

It's the same every year, all have a breathy, wispy singer with a folky/acoustic version of a classic anthem followed by some form of family reunion.

The John Lewis one will probably air when I'm a celeb starts.

JaneJeffer · 12/11/2020 13:15

I already want to throw the telly out the window every time Christmas Lisa appears.

Lindy2 · 12/11/2020 13:19

I don't usually cry at adverts but the Amazon Christmas one made me well up.

User158340 · 12/11/2020 13:19

@PizzaForOne

People cry at adverts?
People watch adverts?

I don't watch much commercial television, but i'll pause the TV in between advert breaks, or even record it and watch it back so I can fast forward them.

noneedforthat · 12/11/2020 13:19

The Aldi one upset me; ‘Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without Kevin’ ...

My sister is in supported living with autism/LDs, and isn’t allowed to see us or spend Christmas at home - for the first time ever we won’t be together ... that bloody advert - every time I hear it I’m off again floods of tears . Couldn’t give a toss about the carrot but I so desperately want to hug my sister .

SquatBetty · 12/11/2020 13:32

Ahhhh! That SuperValu one made the tears spring to my eyes and I'm as hard bitten and cynical as they come!

ReallySpicyCurry · 12/11/2020 13:41

I don't know if it's because I'm in the middle of two weeks of self isolation and it's starting to get to me, but I am properly weeping with laughter at "kittens drowned by David Attenborough" Grin actual tears

Fouroclockonamarblemorning · 12/11/2020 14:00

Don’t watch the John Lewis dead dog one then. Very sad.

contrmary · 12/11/2020 14:07

The only ads that ever got to me have been public information ads. That god awful "AIDS: don't die of ignorance" one (funnily enough, I'd rather die of ignorance than die of AIDS) and a road safety one where there was a car crash, the son appears to be OK whilst his dad is carted of in an ambulance, and then realise the son is actually dead and it's his ghost that's left alone and confused in the street.

I am feeling very emotional at the moment and found myself bawling my eyes out at the McDonalds advert. I blame all the stress of this year, making very quick to tear up Blush

lurker101 · 12/11/2020 14:24

That SuperValu one killed me this morning, I knew it was coming too from the build up, but it still floored me

Cheeseandlobster · 12/11/2020 14:38

A lump in the throat or a little tear. Maybe But sobbing? Literally sobbing? No! I must be hard hearted too Confused

Oreservoir · 12/11/2020 15:15

We don’t live in the uk and are desperately hoping to see our dgs this Christmas so the SuperValu advert just finished me off!

gwenneh · 12/11/2020 15:16

DH laughed at me for crying at the Asda one already.

jamimmi · 12/11/2020 15:42

Dont normally but saw the Amazon one just after setting up an anxious daughter with an on line dance class. This is then1st year she won't spend Christmas doing show rehersal in 8 years. It really hit home work me and some of her friends mums. I dont like 2020 very much I've decided

jamimmi · 12/11/2020 15:43

*with me

5foot5 · 12/11/2020 15:44

I don't usually cry at adverts but the Amazon Christmas one made me well up.

I have only seen the full version once, during last weeks GBBO. I wasn't paying attention at first but gradually both DD and I got drawn in and though "What is this? It's lovely." Bit of a shame it was Amazon really!

Since then they only seem to be showing a highly edited version.

pickingdaisies · 12/11/2020 15:47

All these hard hearted types who don't even get a tear in the eye, how I envy you. Because I know I'm being manipulated, but tear up anyway. And this year of course, when I don't know when or if I can see my family, I never know what will set me off next. At least a soppy advert is good cover!

Pumperthepumper · 12/11/2020 16:02

The Coca Cola one is rubbish. If he could take time off to go to the North Pole, how come he didn’t use that time to go home to his family? AND he forgot to post the letter.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 12/11/2020 16:07

I cry at the John Lewis adverts and I have never seen a John Lewis store. It is a store, right? Especially the Elton John one. And the one with all the animals on a trampoline -- don't know what it was advertising but I loved that dog!

NeutralJanet · 12/11/2020 16:16

DH laughed at me for crying at the Asda one already

The Asda one with that annoying Sonny twat? Or is there another one I haven't seen?
