Lewis Goodall on twitter: "We're not going to get a result tonight."

So on that note, am off to sleep, but good luck to all staying up and hoping things look a bit more positive for Biden in the morning... Confused

maggiethecat · 04/11/2020 03:22

Ghosts2020 - I hope you’re right! Remember Trump wants the election to be called sooner than later given his support may be stronger among in person voters.

Barbzaaaaa · 04/11/2020 03:25

Ugh. I'm in work at half 9 and have to get DS to nursery at 9. I'm not going to bother going to sleep at this point.

DH is grumpy and going on about getting full British citizenship.

RedToothBrush · 04/11/2020 03:26

@Ghosts2020

People need to remember alot of the votes you're seeing live are only a portion as the mail votes still need to be formally counted, so the in person voting might be slightly ahead but Joe could still pull it back
The problem is Trump is bold enough to declare he's won before thats done...

... And there in lies your problem.

Those votes won't ever be counted or if they are Trump will bluff his way through.

People dont realise that Biden needed to win decisively to avoid a messy situation Trump would take advantage of.

It doesn't matter if Biden has more votes at this point. Trump is opportunistic enough to ignore that and refuse to conceed regardless.

This isnt a normal election or a normal candidate. The truth of the result is irrelevant at this point. Trump wins either outright or by sheer brazen audacity.

If you haven’t realised this by this point you have not been paying attention.

The land of the free is no more and the consequences for liberal democracy around the world are not good.

We now enter an era where human exploitation and misery is once again regarded as legitimate by the world powers. Europe star has burned out.

Welcome to the USA v China. Pick your poison for authoritarianism.

Barbzaaaaa · 04/11/2020 03:27

Arizona don't you fucking dare lose that Biden lead

BullBailey · 04/11/2020 03:29

I’m not hopeful...think it won’t be called tonight though

Leaannb · 04/11/2020 03:30

@RedtoothBrush...It was inevitable for this to get messy. No matter what happens now its going to end up in court over Pennsylvania and NC. As soon as they said they had tech difficulties and their results would be delayed. These two states are almost too close to call.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 04/11/2020 03:34

Messy and mad

Barbzaaaaa · 04/11/2020 03:37

I reckon Covid has gone in Trump's favour in the end. Because he's perfectly happy to just pretend it doesn't exist, those who are sick of Covid are voting for him.

tobee · 04/11/2020 03:39

Mitch McConnell speech on BBC. Ds said "no, not this weird turtle"

Barbzaaaaa · 04/11/2020 03:39

^Not that everybody isn't sick of Covid, but you see what I mean (hopefully). More those who are sick of hearing about it, and want to get straight back to normal and ignore it rather than take measures to ACTUALLY get rid of it.

Could take out Covid and Trump and replace with Brexit and Johnson for U.K. last year.

Messy and mad
No doubt people will be rioting in the streets. BLM is already protesting at the White House

I can't see Mitch surviving a 6 year term.

Sad
AcrossthePond55 · 04/11/2020 04:06

Latest projections are calling CA, OR, WA for Biden. Tentative electoral count: Biden 192, Trump 114.

Still a ways to go, though. Quite a few states are being declared 'too close to call'.

Again, these are not official results.

And Scrotus can 'declare' himself the winner all he likes. He does not have the authority to stop the vote count.

tobee · 04/11/2020 04:08

Mitch's hands were worrying the other day

tobee · 04/11/2020 04:09

They keep saying "we can now call ........" my heart starts to thud. And it's "Mississippi for Trump!" ShockShockShockGrinGrinGrin

Ghosts2020 · 04/11/2020 04:17

Not sure where some of you are getting your statistics from currently but Joe Biden has a clear advantage and is running up the scores

maggiethecat · 04/11/2020 04:21

Ghosts2020- But I guess the swing states are too close for comfort

I think that happened in 2016 though.

EscapeMoney · 04/11/2020 04:24

Well, if the Universe is going to give us Trump for 4 more years, I need some UFO Disclosures to make it worth it. Come on chatty Trump - Talk!

I'm in Canada, watching CNN and CBC. Trump is ahead in the popular vote, and leading in the big battleground states.

I hate to say it, but I think he is going to be re-elected.

CanadianJohn · 04/11/2020 04:35

update: as the western results are coming in, the popular vote has swung to Biden, 49.8% - 48.6%. Unfortunately, if the results are close, Trump is gonna declare a victory and argue every last vote.

Is this what democracy has come to?

Ninetyseventhirtyfive · 04/11/2020 04:39

I feel like I'm watching England play in the World Cup semi finals and everything is going so well at first but then they lose focus and it all goes a bit flat and they end up in a penalty shoot out which you can hardly bear to watch and you know deep down how it's all going to end ..
