Scrolling thru CNN news feed and it seems that despite the batshit threats from Trump about sending his "people" to watch at voting centres, there have been no significant reports of voter interference. Queues in many places shorter than expected

RedToothBrush · 03/11/2020 22:14

Lewis Goodall @lewis_goodall
CNN exit polls:

Most important to your vote

The economy-34%
Racial inequality- 21%
Covid- 18%
Crime-11%
Healthcare-11%

This will be updated throughout the evening but prima facie good news for Trump

BUT

Which is more important to you?

Covid-52%
Rebuild the economy-42%

Better news for Biden

BUT

How well are us efforts going to contain Covid?

Well-48%
Badly-51%

If those numbers are reflected across the country, doesn’t speak well of Biden’s comms on the issue given 270k dead

This could be closer than I'd like.

Interesting. I saw the title and presumed this was a pro Trump thread and was surprised so many mumsnetters were Trump supporters!

TheNorthWestPawsage · 03/11/2020 22:15

On a positive note, I’ve not thought about the bloody virus all day!

Exit polls will start being reported in a few mins.

Fiderer · 03/11/2020 22:15

From @HoldMyLobster

But it's not just about the presidency. Control of the House and Senate are in play. The president can't get much done without at least one, and if he has both then he has two years to make massive changes before the House is back up for reelection.

Yes - hopefully hold The House and, would that it happen, regain the Senate.

fourtysecondstreet · 03/11/2020 22:16

That exit poll was a letdown wasn’t it?

RedToothBrush · 03/11/2020 22:16

TSE @TSEofPB
Has been pointed out to me that is based on the day voters, voters who didn't vote on the day aren't in this 'exit poll.'

Jim @d_memoriae
And on the day are supposed to be Trumpier so that might not be too bad. Anyway Nate Silver was arguing not to pay too much attention to the exits.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/11/2020 22:20

@MagicoRomantico

Can someone please explain what is the deal with Florida? Trump is ahead by about a million votes, but the democrats are celebrating.
Link to this info?

Polls in FLA don't close for another 1 3/4 hours.

The CNN exit poll makes no sense to my brain.

PullTheBricksDown · 03/11/2020 22:24

i think it's saying that even if the polls were as wrong as they were in 2012 and 2016, Biden still wins

I've seen this said, I think by Nate Silverman, but I am still very nervous. Twitter is making me hopeful and more worried by turn. I was really cheered to see so many replies to Marco Rubio's tweet about increased Florida turnout saying 'yes but I'm a Republican who's voted for Biden'. Then I clicked on some other tweets about how Trump's ahead in Florida. Are they even allowed to start counting yet? Or are those numbers based on voters who are registered supporters of a party, but who may or may not have voted for that party this time round?

lionheart · 03/11/2020 22:24

Brownies sound like an excellent idea but I have already exceeded my chocolate quota today.

I see what you mean about the BBC graphic Merchant.

The poll does make more sense given these were on the day voters.

Fiderer · 03/11/2020 22:25

Sorry for double post. Of all nights German tech to go gluey Grin

I think the thing with Florida is that Trump is ahead by fewer votes than they are anticipating for Biden via postal votes and that democrats vote in person later in the day.

Coquohvan · 03/11/2020 22:32

Hello from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Last US election I stayed up for was ‘08 what a night that was.

Wishing you all the very best, hopeful that the mad man is gone.
Trump - No More Years

CaveMum · 03/11/2020 22:33

BBC News reporting that the Biden campaign are feeling very confident.

Fingers crossed, but don’t count your chickens folks!

Right, I’m off to bed. I’ve got work tomorrow so can’t stay up. Based on the last few nights I will be up at some point with CaveBaby so I will check in if that is the case.

colouringindoors · 03/11/2020 22:35

I can't bear anyone saying their optimistic for Biden - don't want it to be jinxed!!! 🤞🤞🤞

TokyoSushi · 03/11/2020 22:36

Just wondering what to do re: bed! In 2016 I got up for a quick check at 1am and that was me up for the day! Tempted to go to bed now and have a check at 1 again.

Its looking positive, but who knows what could happen...

AcrossthePond55 · 03/11/2020 22:36

I'm putting off turning the telly on until 4pm PST (7pm New York).

Of all the nights for MN to get 'glitchy'!
