South Carolina is expected to complete its count quicker than some. I am really hoping to see that simper wiped off Lindsey Graham's face

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom

Just saw someone on CNN state that he reckons Trump may well win. I am so used to the Orwellian double think turn that politics have taken in the past few years that I'm wondering if they're doing this deliberately to stop Biden voters from being complacent and encouraging everyone who might already be thinking it's a done deal for the Blue Wave, to go and vote to be sure to be sureGrin
Yup, it's definitely a Lib Dem tactic of old, a lá Chris Rennard.

"It's neck and neck in [insert name of polling district]", with a fake bar chart, even when it was a safe seat for someone. It's about getting votes out, and getting people into the habit of voting.

Do you think it’s possible? I know the democratic candidate has recorded record levels of donations, but I don’t have much faith.
Delphinium20 · 03/11/2020 20:08

This is a reassuring headline from the NYTimes:

"On ballot-counting livestreams, democracy is heroically boring."

StartupRepair · 03/11/2020 20:09

It's morning in Australia. Will be flicking back and forth all day between work and the future of the world. Holding the US in my thoughts. You are so much better and deserve so much more than 45.

MerchantOfVenom · 03/11/2020 20:13

The perception is that Dems have voted (in record numbers) early, but Republicans will be the ones turning out on the day (today).

From what I’m hearing on the news, and seeing on my FB feed from American friends, many Dems are waiting to do it today, and in person. They are so concerned that postal votes won’t get through, that they want to hand it in, in person. See it going safely into the ballot.

So, take heart from the high numbers showing up in person.

HoldMyLobster · 03/11/2020 20:15

@HoneysuckIejasmine

Will the early in person voting ballots be counted today, along with the on the day ones? So totals by end of day will exclude just mail in ones if any (assuming they finish counting them)?
Each state will count what it counts, when it counts it...

Honestly, there is just no straightforward answer to this.

Apileofballyhoo · 03/11/2020 20:18

Hilary voted today, and she's definitely a Dem.

MerchantOfVenom · 03/11/2020 20:18

Exactly Lobster - no-one knows or can tell.

This is an unprecedented election. More people have voted early than ever before, and by post, due to serious engagement levels, and the pandemic.

All bets are off as to when we will know.

Zixxy · 03/11/2020 20:18

The World waits.

I suppose it depends ultimately on the Swing States. Focus on them and forget about all the guff about anywhere else..

So they would be Florida, Georgia, NC, Pennsylvania, and where have I forgotten?

lionheart · 03/11/2020 20:21

Philadelphia City has set up a livestream of workers counting the ballots. Smile

HoldMyLobster · 03/11/2020 20:21

Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas and Wisconsin, according to the Wall Street Journal.

HoldMyLobster · 03/11/2020 20:23

But it's not just about the presidency. Control of the House and Senate are in play. The president can't get much done without at least one, and if he has both then he has two years to make massive changes before the House is back up for reelection.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 03/11/2020 20:23

It surprises me that Trump dons;t want the military mail-in votes counted, if such a majority of them were for him in the last election.

HoldMyLobster · 03/11/2020 20:24

...I drove for an hour today, and I swear at least 50% of the time there was an anti-Susan Collins ad running on several stations at once.

The young victim of a Cleveland policeman’s bullet would have been old enough to vote this Election Day, so keep him and others without a voice in mind as we use our voices in their stead.'

Thanks.

I will add those to my list! Never thought that Texas would be swing territoritory, or Nevada either. But every day's a school day.

I hope I can stay awake, but if I don't, I will know the trend in the morning.

My nerves!

1.2 million have voted in Miam-Dade. 80% turnout and still going.

Rockpapershoot · 03/11/2020 20:37

Come on America! I voted by post weeks ago.
