To ask the most impulsive thing you’ve ever done

And whether you regretted it?

Mine was when I was backpacking in South Africa in my twenties. It was so hot and humid that one day I suddenly decided to cut off my waist length hair to about an inch long all over with my nail scissors in my hostel room. It felt amazing and I had no regrets until a few months later when it was at the awkward in-between length.

Another was the time, following a breakup, I quit my job and moved to the other end of the country. Initially regretted it as the isolation from all my friends was hard but now I’m really happy here and glad I did it.

Would love to hear yours!

Mine is a bit less lighthearted but I was in an awful DV relationship. Had planned for ages to get out but always backed out then spur of the moment out of impulse walked out the door and never looked back. It's one of those scenarios where you just have to rip the band aid off and do it on spur of the moment

QuestionableMouse · 25/10/2020 15:31

Mine was cutting my hair too. It was thigh length, really thick and heavy and I just got sick of dealing with it. Put it in a ponytail and cut it off above my shoulders. I felt amazing.

Wellsbells · 25/10/2020 15:31

@Mumofsend that’s amazing, so happy for you. Glad you found the strength to do what you needed to do Smile

@QuestionableMouse I feel like most of us have made some impulsive hair decisions Grin

Just noticed there’s a current thread about someone cutting their own hair with crappy scissors Grin

Lived on a yacht for 3 months. No regrets.

iswhois · 25/10/2020 15:37

Shaving my head as well lol

I don't regret it as such- but it's at a really awkward length at the moment which is hard to style

SqidgeBum · 25/10/2020 15:37

It's either cutting my hair from past my shoulders to a number 3 shaved pixie cut at age 15 after seeing a pic of Frankie Bridge on the front of a magazine in the hairdressers.

Or

Signing up to travel alone to work in Thailand for a year after seeing an advert on my facebook while I was meant to be studying for my University finals. It was 25 minutes between seeing the advert and ringing my travel agency. I was 21. My parents were a bit shocked 😆

SqidgeBum · 25/10/2020 15:38

Oh, and I didnt regret either, especially going to Thailand. Everyone thought I was insane though.

CoronaIsWatching · 25/10/2020 15:38

What did you do with the hair after

Coasterfan · 25/10/2020 15:42

I left my husband for my best friend. Everyone said I was insane and it would never last. That was 14 years ago, our children are 11 and 13 and we are still very much together 😀

QuestionableMouse · 25/10/2020 15:42

Donated it, though I kept the second lot when I did the same later on.

I used kitchen scissors 😂😂

Toilenstripes · 25/10/2020 15:46

After my mother died I quit my job, bought a one-way ticket to Istanbul and traveled on the cheap for six months.

Wellsbells · 25/10/2020 15:48

I feel like maybe we should all be a bit more impulsive as there don’t seem to be many regrets!

After 22 years living in a horrible village full of bigots and homophobes, and in an unhappy marriage, I moved to the other end of the country to a house I hadn't seen before moving. Best decision I ever made, now separated but living with a beautiful kind woman and feel happier than I have ever been

winterinmadeira · 25/10/2020 15:51

Between jobs I maxed out my credit card at the time and Booked a flight to LA for the following Week for a trip travelling around California, Arizona and Nevada for a month. Loved it and wish I could do it again.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 25/10/2020 15:53

When I was 18 I found myself pregnant and single.... throughout the pregnancy I met and became friends (hopefully more) with another man. A week before I was due to give birth I found out that the “man” hadn’t gone to university in another country of the UK because of me. I said to him that we should go and we packed all our stuff in a van and left and I had the baby there with a 21 year old guy I barely knew by my side.
I don’t regret it at all. Although our relationship didn’t last two years we did have another baby and although he’s not been the best dad he’s never treated my child any differently to his own and he is still “dad” to my child 12 years later x

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 25/10/2020 15:53

Told a homeless soldier he could sleep on my sofa.

14 years later still not got rid of him! (Plus our two DDs) (I did know him beforehand... But him moving in with me line that was not planned!)

LakieLady · 25/10/2020 15:54

SqidgeBum · 25/10/2020 15:58

I bought some ducklings

This is the best one yet! I love it!

pepsicolagirl · 25/10/2020 16:07

Saw a puppy in Friday Ads and bought it with 0 discussion with my OH. We lived in a flat which we were selling to buy a house, had a toddler and EVERYONE said I was nuts. She was being rehomed because she was a "naughty dog" - the family she was with kept her in a conservatory all day and she was just a bored 6mnth old.

I knew she was meant for us from the second I saw that ad though. She was put to sleep last month at the grand old age of 15. She was by my side every day and was like a doggy sister to my children.
I don't regret those 15yrs with my naughty pup one bit.

Wellsbells · 25/10/2020 16:07

@Bunnybigears yes love it! How did that pan out?
