To think the social distancing on Strictly is a bit false

There’s no way they are doing their own hair and makeup or fitting their own costumes so the whole keeping apart from everyone except their partner on screen is a bit false

I'm gutted that they keep going on about it tbh, don't we want a bit of escapism from covid.
Some of the emotions though, so much fakery.

MeredithGreysScalpel · 24/10/2020 20:34

Presumably masks are involved when costume or makeup is happening. Stop being so bloody miserable.

Mindymomo · 24/10/2020 20:34

I just wish they’d stop going on about it, yes we know they’re all in bubbles and a lot has been filmed before. But I’m glad it’s back on, a bit of light relief. I expect costume and makeup is done with masks on.

Bearbehind · 24/10/2020 20:36

I’m not being miserable!

I’m loving a bit of normality in the world!

It’s just odd that they’re talking about bubbles and distancing and all whilst behind the scenes it can’t be the same

A mask during make up might be a bit of a problem! 😂

I'm a big strictly fan, but I can't watch. It's just too miserable this year 🙁

ChorltonWheelie · 24/10/2020 20:39

As they said, check out bbc.co.uk/strictly to find out how they made it

From the page

Job roles that require closer contact (such as hair, makeup, medics or physio teams) are following the Government’s Close Contact Services Guidelines, which include the requirement to wear additional PPE.

Normandy144 · 24/10/2020 20:40

Of course they're not doing their own hair and make up. The makeup department will be wearing masks just the same as in a salon. I'm not sure what you're expecting them to do. They're putting it on in a covid safe way, and explaining every 5 minutes about how they're doing that and yet still people complain. I'm not sure what more you could want tbh!

MB90 · 24/10/2020 20:42

I thought it was all very flat to be honest

MeredithGreysScalpel · 24/10/2020 20:43

I’m fairly sure a makeup artist can wear a mask and still do their job 🙄

Bearbehind · 24/10/2020 20:44

My only compliant is the emphasis they keep on putting on the bubbles and prerecording etc when the reality is they are having to manage the risk sensibly in so many areas so there’s no need to keep going on about that stuff - hence my comment about it feeling false

OP posts:
SpeedofaSloth · 24/10/2020 20:45

PPE would sort the hair and makeup people.

dudsville · 24/10/2020 20:47

Don't our hairdressers use ppe? They don't have to keep 6 feet apart Why would it be different for them?

YellowishZebra · 24/10/2020 20:49

I'm another who just wishes they would stop going on about it.
It would be nice if we could forget about it a bit for an hour or so of sparkles and happiness.

Sparklesocks · 24/10/2020 20:53

I imagine they keep having to add caveats about how they’re doing it safely to prevent complaints to ofcom from fuming viewers about how nothing is being done in line with Covid.

Bearbehind · 24/10/2020 20:58

Well those who would complain if they didn’t keep mentioning it, are ruining it for the majority!

Strictly is escapism - those of us with half a brain know they’ll be doing it safely or it wouldn’t be happening

Just give it a rest with all the disclaimers

OP posts:
MissMarplesHandbag · 24/10/2020 21:04

Exactly @Sparklesocks. If they didn’t go on about what they were doing to be Covid safe you can guarantee there’d be complaints. Equally, they do and you get the comments here. Just proves they can’t win! I for one am just glad it’s back on and we can have some Saturday night Autumn sparkle. 🕺💃👯‍♀️💎
loulouljh · 24/10/2020 21:05

I really don't care!!

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/10/2020 21:08

Unfortunately without the disclaimers there would be outrage and vociferous complaints from certain quarters.

AhFiddledeedee · 24/10/2020 21:09

They are in bubbles. I get it. They've said. Several times. I get it. Bubbles, safe, covid. Now I just want them to crack on and shut up about it!

Aragog · 24/10/2020 21:11

I suspect they 'keep going on about it' is to stop the inevitable complaints otherwise. You just know they'd be flooding in. An evening reading MN shows how some people might react!

Therarestone · 24/10/2020 21:16

Not my worry tbh. I'm sure they do what they can which is what most of us do.

MrsFezziwig · 24/10/2020 21:20

I always record it to watch later as I love the dancing but can’t bear all the chirruping in between. Looks like I’ll be fast forwarding even more than usual!

category12 · 24/10/2020 21:20

If they didn't talk about it, then tons of people would be jumping all over them with Covid-outrage. So they can't win really.

I loved Bill Bailey.

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 24/10/2020 21:21

It's so much better without the studio audience ......... I'm loving it

Benjispruce2 · 24/10/2020 21:21

I saw that makeup and costume is fine in mask and visor (for the makeup artist) and both for costume. Just like in a salon.
