To think the social distancing on Strictly is a bit false

There’s no way they are doing their own hair and makeup or fitting their own costumes so the whole keeping apart from everyone except their partner on screen is a bit false

OP posts:
nevermorelenore · 24/10/2020 21:22

They probably mention it all the time so they don't get a million shitty Facebook comments about 'why aren't you doing soandso?' Or people writing into Points of View, if that still exists.

Ignoringequally · 24/10/2020 21:24

@DrManhattan

I'm gutted that they keep going on about it tbh, don't we want a bit of escapism from covid. Some of the emotions though, so much fakery.
I agree I wish they’d stop going on about it. I’m going to assume they’re following the relevant guidance. I don’t want to hear about it every 5 mins. I watch strictly for the escapism. Not to be reminded of Covid constantly.
whatswithtodaytoday · 24/10/2020 21:24

@Hotcuppatea

I'm a big strictly fan, but I can't watch. It's just too miserable this year 🙁
It's not miserable at all! Do try, it's still lovely, just a bit different.
Benjispruce2 · 24/10/2020 21:24

Even with their caveat, you’ve still started a thread doubting the measures.Hmm

Benjispruce2 · 24/10/2020 21:25

I enjoyed the dances, don’t care about the audience.

JenniferSantoro · 24/10/2020 21:33

@category12

If they didn't talk about it, then tons of people would be jumping all over them with Covid-outrage. So they can't win really.

I loved Bill Bailey.

I loved the joy in him and Caroline Quentin. I always record so I can whizz over the wooden presenters.
BlueJava · 24/10/2020 21:37

I agree with the majority here - I wish they'd made once announcement at the start "If you want to know about covid measures we took go here " then never mention it again and concentrate on strictly.

ElspethFlashman · 24/10/2020 21:42

I dont see that people would complain if they didn't bang on about it.

Look at Bake Off - they mentioned it on the first episode that they were bubbling together but haven't really mentioned it since. There are hugs galore, but they're still not going on about it! And its absolutely lovely escapism, almost as if everything is the way it used to be.

Even on Extra Slice they talk about it as everyone has to social distance in the studio but make it absolutely hilarious with their 6 foot long microphone shaped like a giant whisk! What larks! Grin

jessstan1 · 24/10/2020 21:44

@Bearbehind

I’m not being miserable!

I’m loving a bit of normality in the world!

It’s just odd that they’re talking about bubbles and distancing and all whilst behind the scenes it can’t be the same

A mask during make up might be a bit of a problem! 😂

The make up and wardrobe people will wear masks and disposable gloves to protect the dancers; the dancers won't have Covid because they have isolated and been in a bubble, therefore cannot infect the support staff. I think they are doing jolly well. I missed the beginning tonight (will catch up later), but if they go on about it, it will be to reassure people like us that they are taking no risks.

I imagine there will be more behind the scenes footage on ITT if that is starting next week.

Ignoringequally · 24/10/2020 21:45

but if they go on about it, it will be to reassure people like us that they are taking no risks

But why reassure us more than once? All they need to do is state the precautions taken once, then move on.

TellingBone · 24/10/2020 21:47

I was looking forward to no stupid whooping and wild applause during the dances. There was still stupid whooping and wild applause during the dances.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 24/10/2020 21:53

This, in spades. Let us have ONE fucking thing that’s Covid free.

lollipoprainbow · 24/10/2020 21:58

Feels like the joy has been sucked out of it this year as annoying as the audience clapping like seals was it seems weird without them! Maybe they should have skipped a year.

randomer · 24/10/2020 21:58

it was a sad old shell about 12 years ago.

Crinkle77 · 24/10/2020 22:15

@Youmeanyouvelostyourkey

It's so much better without the studio audience ......... I'm loving it
I disagree. I think the audience adds to the atmosphere. It all feels a bit flat this year.
GaryTheDemon · 24/10/2020 22:17

But those things (hair, make up) are work related, so allowed. They’re in a bubble not isolating.

RoseGold7 · 24/10/2020 22:21

@BlueJava

I totally agree Sad
MirandaGoshawk · 24/10/2020 22:21

I agree with you, OP. It all seems a bit po-faced and PC. So if Claud and Tess (and the dancers) need to nip to the loo, they're all going to stay six feet apart, are they? The judges aren't going to chat together before/after the show? I get the feeling that it's all put on for the cameras. But it's the same as all the other shows. It felt ridiculous that on Who Wants to be Millionaire, wotsit couldn't shake the hand of the guy who won a million. Today I was handling cash with complete strangers. What's the difference? I want escapism, not PC bollox.

Greyshaggyrug · 24/10/2020 22:24

But don’t the celebrities go to their normal jobs every day or is the whole thing pre-recorded?

GabsAlot · 24/10/2020 22:31

i dont think they are greyt-i couldbe wrong though

Pasithea · 24/10/2020 22:33

It’s shit whatever way it’s done. Too old too tired. Time for something new.

LadyHofH · 24/10/2020 22:37

@Bearbehind

My only compliant is the emphasis they keep on putting on the bubbles and prerecording etc when the reality is they are having to manage the risk sensibly in so many areas so there’s no need to keep going on about that stuff - hence my comment about it feeling false
I agree with you about the emphasising. They do the same on Radio 3. "X is joining me DOWN THE LINE FROM HIS/HER HOME, AS PER THE COVID RULES to talk about their latest recording WHICH THEY WERE ABLE TO MAKE BECAUSE THEY ARE IN THE SAME BUBBLE". We all know about the sodding rules. You don't have to keep banging on about them, thanks.
Littleposh · 24/10/2020 22:38

You know hairdressers and beauticians are open, yes??

Some people just love to make a pathetic drama out of fuck all

MajesticWhine · 24/10/2020 22:42

I am grateful Strictly is back. It's one of very few things we can enjoy as a family with 10 yr old DD. I don't really give a stuff about how they manage Covid and I don't especially want to hear about it. But of course if they didn't explain people would be whining about it.

Aridane · 24/10/2020 22:46
