To ask if you've had a smear this year

How long did your results take? I had mine Tuesday and the nurse said 8-12 weeks. Due to covid ofcourse!

Has anyone found they come quicker? Seems ages to wait.

I've been having irregular bleeding and pain in my pelvis. I can't be refered until my smear results are up to date. So it's looking like a 3 month wait to getting any further.

Got results this week for a smear at the beginning of September, so 7ish weeks?

Hope you get your results soon.

sunflowershine · 24/10/2020 14:57

I had mine on the 6th October and got my results in the post today, so only two and a half weeks here. South East.

Whenwillow · 24/10/2020 14:58

Mine came within a couple of weeks though I was told 12. So hopefully worst case is 12 weeks.

MJMG2015 · 24/10/2020 14:58

Hi

I had mine done on the 7th & she said results should be back in 3 weeks, to call if I didn't have them in 4 weeks.

I got them back this morning, so a little over 2 weeks.

But I guess it will vary by region. I'm in the north of the South East of England

The standard letter is strange niw, but thankfully I was expecting that from a previous thread.

Sorry to hear you're having problems, I hope you get your results back soon & can move forward with appointments & get it sorted out 🌷

lambo88 · 24/10/2020 14:59

Had mine done at my doctors and took 2 weeks x

shenanigans5 · 24/10/2020 14:59

Had one about three weeks ago and results were about 10 days.

ktsa4 · 24/10/2020 15:00

Thankfully had mine last year so not due now until 2022 I think?

Starlightstarbright1 · 24/10/2020 15:00

I had mine done a few months ago... took a few weeks for the results to come through

LeSquigh · 24/10/2020 15:00

Yes, I have. I was told a couple of weeks and it was indeed a couple of weeks.

FelicityBennett · 24/10/2020 15:00

If you are having irregular bleeding and pain then you shouldn’t have to wait for a smear result
Smears are screening tests designed only for use on people with no symptoms . They’re not designed to be diagnostic
Gynaecology will accept referrals without a smear test so that should not delay your referral
Please speak to your GP again

AllTheThingsHeSaid · 24/10/2020 15:00

Less than 4 weeks, but I do wonder whether they came quickly because they showed dodgy cells and I will need treatment. Also, I live in Wales, and healthcare is devolved.

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 24/10/2020 15:01

I did start of Oct. results within a week

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 24/10/2020 15:02

Normal result

Smileyaxolotl1 · 24/10/2020 15:02

Was told 2 weeks. Came in 3 weeks. Greater London. X

purplecup · 24/10/2020 15:03

I had one last month and the results took three weeks. I had swabs done a week after due to some irregularities and they took 10 days to come back.
I was told the delays are all COVID related.
Hope you get your results soon.

Make another appointment to see your GP and ask them to show you the referral guidelines and where it says you need an up to date smear. I’d be very surprised if they can. They should be referring you now.

XEbonyrose1X · 24/10/2020 15:04

Interesting. I live in Lincolnshire.

I hope it's only a few weeks. I'll push the gp next week to refer. They are fighting me abit because I refused the coil.

I keep putting it off but I've never had a smear....my GP gave out to me the last time I was there..I dont know why I wont make the appointment.Blush Sorry to have hijacked your thread op.

DeathMetalMum · 24/10/2020 15:09

I had mine about three weeks ago. Nurse said results are taking longer than usual (and to ring and check if they weren't back after 4 weeks). I think mine were back in about 10 days.

kory1 · 24/10/2020 15:10

I had mine done in august and got my results in a week . I was told could take a month.

Utini · 24/10/2020 15:10

I had mine done a few weeks ago and results took about two weeks. East of England.

DuskandSummer · 24/10/2020 15:10

I'm in Wales so there may be a difference if you are elsewhere. I had mine two days ago and was told the results should be back in 2 weeks and to contact them after 4 if not. However my smear was brought forward by 2 weeks as I had called them with irregular bleeding and pelvic pain. I have been referred for a gynae appointment for 10 days time. Don't be fobbed off, request the gynae referral.

XEbonyrose1X · 24/10/2020 15:11

@Mytimetokillandmaim

Don't apologize. I am 31 and I've only just had my third one. I was so nervous. Busy with babies. I have had a HPV though last year.

What is worrying you?

I can tell you my experience. It was absolutely fine and pain free. I had a shower just before I left. Shaved my legs. The nurse told me all about her first one and how she understands. I was right at ease. It took about a minute to put the the plastic thingy in and "open" I didn't notice her opening anything. Just felt a mild sensation as she twirled the brush. But no pain.

Any questions ask away x
