To ask if you've had a smear this year

How long did your results take? I had mine Tuesday and the nurse said 8-12 weeks. Due to covid ofcourse!

Has anyone found they come quicker? Seems ages to wait.

I've been having irregular bleeding and pain in my pelvis. I can't be refered until my smear results are up to date. So it's looking like a 3 month wait to getting any further.

A smear test is just a screening test. Your bleeding should be investigated properly. Please don't be fobbed off.

On another note, I did the Superdrug HPV test. It was delivered next day and a text confirming results came back within 4 days of posting.

@Mytimetokillandmaim

I keep putting it off but I've never had a smear....my GP gave out to me the last time I was there..I dont know why I wont make the appointment.Blush Sorry to have hijacked your thread op.
Cervical cancer treatment will be a lot more invasive and traumatic. Please book one. You won’t be the only woman whose put it off.

My results took about three weeks.

fuckrightoff · 24/10/2020 22:08

That's reminded me I had mine September and totally forgot Iv not had results, nurse never said about a delay either

XEbonyrose1X · 25/10/2020 06:03

Thanks everyone.

I think my gps are hiding. They are not at all interested. I've phoned 7 times since march and not once have they seen me. I've been on for bloods and my smear with the nurse. They took swabs for the sti things too. Which I won't have unless my partner of the best part of ten years has been up to know good. But we use condoms and haven't had sex for months because of my situation.

But I guess it has to be done.

I'll let you know when my results are back.

Had mine in April, results 3 weeks later (East Anglia). Fingers crossed yours is a quick, OP.

Rotundandhappy · 25/10/2020 07:17

South, just over two weeks. It was normal. It’s often sooner if it’s abnormal, in my experience. I think they process the paperwork quicker.

TobblyBobbly · 25/10/2020 07:18

I had one in Sept and the results took a normal length of time (2 weeks).

Rotundandhappy · 25/10/2020 07:21

They shouldn’t be delaying a gynae referral though. You’re symptomatic. Your smear result is an irrelevance as it is a screening test for precancerous cells, which are largely non-symptomatic.

I had irregular bleeding and was referred straight away for a colposcopy. I was seen inside two weeks and I was diagnosed with ectropian caused by hormonal changes. Push for a referral.

SurreyHillsGirl · 25/10/2020 08:00

I had mine two weeks ago, the nurse told me to expect to wait twelve weeks! As my name suggests, I'm in Surrey.

MuchTooTired · 25/10/2020 08:06

I had mine done in July, got the results back after a couple of weeks.

Last week, I had a letter saying that there was a mix up or computer error in the lab and that my sample was one that they think possibly might’ve got an incorrect normal result, so I have to do one again. The next date available was in December Confused

AuntieMarys · 25/10/2020 08:08

I had my results in a week

Pyjamaface · 25/10/2020 08:11

I had a smear in the middle of September, results came 2 weeks with abnormal results. Had a colposcopy & Lletz last week so all going along as usual re. waiting times. I'm in the East

OwletteGeckoCatboy · 25/10/2020 08:12

Yep I had one on a tuesday and the results came back the following Friday I was suprised how quick it was!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/10/2020 08:17

I had one end of Feb after not having one for many many years. Results were quick. A week.

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer so please to the ladies on this thread who say they haven't been, please go.

I can tell you the chemo, radio and brachytherapy were a lot more hassle and uncomfortable than a smear test.

I will never miss another one.

Alarae · 25/10/2020 08:18

I had one in August and had results in two weeks.

XEbonyrose1X · 25/10/2020 08:25

@Chesneyhawkes1

Oh gosh were you having any trouble and could the nurse see anything concerning?

Wishing you the best.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/10/2020 10:17

@XEbonyrose1X no nothing really. The smear made me bleed though. I believe at my colposcopy they could see it yes. The nurse turned the screen away so I couldn't see after asking me before if I wanted to.

I'm all ok now. Have the all clear. But I will never be so stupid as to miss a smear test again 🤦‍♀️
