To ask if you've had a smear this year

XEbonyrose1X · 24/10/2020 14:53

How long did your results take? I had mine Tuesday and the nurse said 8-12 weeks. Due to covid ofcourse!

Has anyone found they come quicker? Seems ages to wait.

I've been having irregular bleeding and pain in my pelvis. I can't be refered until my smear results are up to date. So it's looking like a 3 month wait to getting any further.

Yes. I originally had an appointment scheduled in March which was cancelled, but my GP practice phoned and rescheduled in around July. Result arrived a week later by post.

XEbonyrose1X · 24/10/2020 15:15

@purplecup

No. I've been under them for anemia for over a year. I ring every month to say I'm still having weakness and pain. Left ovary has been in pain for weeks. Random bleeds. I eventually said look please refer me as I've tries the pills. I've tried transexamic acid. They said well we've still got options such as the coil. I said Ive already told you I don't want to try hormones until I know what's going on. They said well we can't refer you until you have an up-to-date smear and swabs.

So I'm awaiting the results.

I had one abdominal ultrasound scan 8 months ago.

I had pain in my pelvis for weeks and insisted on an examination, where they spotted a lump on my cervix and I was seen on 2WW.

All fine, but I had to push to see GP in first place and could have been different. Sometimes you have to
be sharp-elbowed.

XEbonyrose1X · 24/10/2020 15:18

Yeah the nurse looked at my cervix and said it just looks a little pink? But she said it looks healthy nothing alarming.

She said it can be pink if you have spotting.

Had mine in Feb, results in 2 weeks. Got HPV changes or something so need to be seen in 12 months. No idea if that will happen 🤷‍♀️

Mytimetokillandmaim · 24/10/2020 15:25

XEbonyrose1X thanks so much for your reply!

I'm 33 Blush I've had one examination done in that area . .years ago but it was for something else fairly traumatic and I've tried to block it out. So the thought of anyone else doin that... I fear would be too much for me....so I've stupidly never had a smear

HoxtonBonnet · 24/10/2020 15:26

I had one done at the beginning of this month and it took two weeks for the result to come through. I am in the South East.

MrsHSW · 24/10/2020 15:27

The screening programme was on hold for ages because of covid. I was chasing mine as knew I was due. Finally got it done and came back clear after 2 weeks. Had had an abnormal a few years ago so was a bit worried. Please everyone go for your smears! We do them fairly infrequently in the UK compared to some other countries. Relax, they are much better than they used to be! Doesnt hurt at all.

VioletSunset · 24/10/2020 15:27

My results were back in 2 weeks

PolytheneHam · 24/10/2020 15:29

I was told 4-6 weeks, about 4 weeks ago. I'm actually quite anxious to get my results, so I hope there aren't delays

XEbonyrose1X · 24/10/2020 15:30

@Mytimetokillandmaim

I paid for a HPV test from superdrug. It came to my house. I did the test myself and I sent it off. Then within a few days the results came back to an account online.

Perhaps start there if you have the money? HPV causes most cases of cervical cancer so it's a good start.

I understand you. I was traumatised from being induced. Silly to some. But it took alot to pluck up the courage.

It's optional at the end of the day. It's important to get any problems checked. But it's a choice and there's many different things that could harm us. So if you can at least do a job swab yourself you have done something to protect yourself.

I'm in the South West. Contacted the surgery to arrange it on 7th Oct. Had my smear on the 8th. Results by post on 22nd. I hope your results come through soon and you can move on with the investigations

PurpleDaisies · 24/10/2020 15:33

Did the doctor examine you abdomen or was it just the nurse looking at your cervix?

XEbonyrose1X · 24/10/2020 15:33

Just the nurse. A Dr hasn't ever wanted to look.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 24/10/2020 15:35

Was told upto six weeks as labs busy but had mine back in eight days.

Took far longer to get initial appointment as GPs weren’t doing them and have only just started again.

Caelano · 24/10/2020 15:37

I had one earlier this month and results back within a fortnight, so no different to usual. I’m in Gloucestershire. I’m now onto 5 yearly checks rather than 3 (I think it’s an age thing, once you’re over a certain age and results are normal.)
Tbh OP You need to push to be seen by a doctor. Cervical screening is exactly that: a standard screening test offered to all women within the age range.... you actually have symptoms so you shouldn’t have to wait on a screening result

Mytimetokillandmaim · 24/10/2020 15:45

XEbonyrose1X oh I had no idea you could that yourself. I will definitely look into that now,thanks so much!
I'm in Ireland but hopefully I still have the option. Thanks a million for the reassurance its nice to know I'm not the only one who panics..I've had females family members tell me I'm ridiculous and to get over myself. I know they mean well though.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 24/10/2020 15:45

@XEbonyrose1X

Interesting. I live in Lincolnshire.

I hope it's only a few weeks. I'll push the gp next week to refer. They are fighting me abit because I refused the coil.

So not surprised with that 😑

Shocked at 8-12 weeks - I had my smear earlier this month, got my results within 2 weeks - NE England.

Hope you get somewhere with the GP asap

Thiswayorthatway · 24/10/2020 15:45

2 weeks in Cheshire

PurpleDaisies · 24/10/2020 15:46

@XEbonyrose1X

Just the nurse. A Dr hasn't ever wanted to look.
On Monday, noon another appointment and insist a doctor examines you properly.
YonderTweek · 24/10/2020 15:50

South West here. Had mine in July, letter back within two weeks.

Jowak1 · 24/10/2020 15:53

Mine was due April time so got postponed till September. I got my results very quick after about 10 days - North Manchester

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 24/10/2020 16:08

I don’t understand how you are all getting ‘All clear’ results I’ve just had the results of my smear and in the letter they told me they only examine the smear if you are found to be HPV positive, as I was negative they don’t examine the sample, so my smear was utterly pointless as I could have just got an HPV test from Superdrug and not had to go for the actual smear test, I’m presuming the people saying they have had the all clear are positive for HPV?

Supertree · 24/10/2020 16:14

I had one during lockdown because I had a lump on my cervix. Never had a smear before for reasons and I was absolutely terrified, both of the lump and the examination. A GP had a look and found the lump, referred me via 2 week wait. I was seen in colposcopy clinic ten days later which was all fine and the colposcopist did a smear during that appointment to save me making another appointment. Colposcopist reassured me that the lump was nothing to worry about and smear results came back clear less than two weeks later.

Supertree · 24/10/2020 16:14

They said at the time that COVID wasn’t slowing things down at all and things were actually running every quickly. I’m in the midlands.
