YABU - people should be allowed to let them off any time of the year in their own gardens etc...

YANBU - there is no need to let fireworks off at random times of the year and they should be kept to scheduled displays so people know when to expect them.

Hugely in favour.

Every year there's the using of fire services and police services time as we live on a secondary school route and there's the inevitable fires and kids throwing them at each other and the injuries resulting. And the fireworks hitting windows, landing on car roofs, house roofs, in the street, because all the modern housing estates have tiny gardens and houses crowded in together but they still launch the most powerful and loud fireworks they could find for the ooh and the bang with no sense of responsibility for what happens to that firework once released from their garden. I've done the dashing round to put out smouldering rockets on elderly neighbours' decking and garage roofs and the ones that land in their fish pond and kill all their fish. And that's apart from the fear and distress of animals, people with Autism, PTDS, etc etc who have to deal with feeling like they're living in a war zone with massive bangs going on from dusk until late from mid October pretty much every night onwards.

Regulated displays only, limited dates. I used to love fireworks, and I bloody hate the things now.

Absolutely.

I prefer organised displays but I doubt there will be any going ahead this year due to Covid. There will be a lot more garden fireworks this year because of this.

I just can't get over relatively young children getting their hands on them - and they do. I don't know what sort of fuckwit parents they have or whether it's just the fuckwit shopkeepers who allow them to have them, but it's not just these children who get injured as a result of their mishandling.

Kids didn't used to handle fireworks other than a sparkler. I think it was possibly down to expense rather than safety but the net result was they were for adult use only. And it was better and safer for it.

It was also just one night of the year, not this attention-seeking, selfish any-day-you-want behaviour.

This year even more they need to be banned, to ease the pressure on A&E n case of accidents.

Please, please if all of you who dislike fireworks would write to your MP to show support for the FAB firework campaign. There is a debate on 2 Nov in the Commons - the pro fireworks lobby are already asking for support. If you have first hand experience of the harm amd damage they cause let your MP know. If we don't email them, this'll get dismissed again. Please write and sign petitions

I would vote for banning them. Last year my stupid as fuck neighbours bought several of those display in a box things, which they very kindly let off in the middle of the street. They have a garden, but I suppose they wanted to share.

They have form for inappropriate sharing.........

@Littlecaf

I love fireworks! We live in Sussex where there are loads of Bonfire Societies, so you can’t move for displays around the 5th. I’m also fine with them in people’s gardens. They aren’t sold widely all year (I think it’s a licensing thing?) so a few nights around the 5th is fine with me.
A few nights! Wow you are lucky. Firework season here starts with Halloween, segues into Bonfire Night/Divali then keeps going most week night and every weekend until Christmas/New Year . Thank heavens we don’t have any Orthodox Christians living nearby to prolong the agony to mid January.
