Hi
Aibu to think this is ridiculous or am I behind in the time’s. We have been discussing amongst friends what’s on the kids wish lists this year, they seemed take back by the fact by daughter had asked for the kindi kid dolls and furreal kangaroo ( and some other toys like hatchimal l fairy )
They said they were not buying theirs toys this year as they have grown out of them ( same year in school )
Is my child a young 7 year old ?
She has asked for a camera and watch for her birthday but she is still v much in to toys !

I love Hey Duggee and I’m 42! DCs (9&7) will happily watch it, along with a few other CBeebies programs, like Pablo and Charlie & Lola. I can’t imagine banning them when they’re wholesome and harmless compared to some of the crap aimed at older children Confused

YANBU but seems that for a lot of kids that age life quickly revolves around youtube on phone/tablet and video games - very little toy-based play anymore

My 9 year old has also asked for the kindi kid dolls. She is very much still into playing with toys.

Gosh I'm feeling a bit sad reading about all these mature little 8 year olds Grin.
I was in home bargains earlier with dd (almost 8) and saw a really cute my little pony notebook. I pointed it out to her and her response was no mummy! Nothing my little pony please!' I'd be fibbing if I didn't have a slight tug on the old heart and a quick flashback of her opening all her ponies one birthday and squealing with happiness 🥺 they grow so fast. Sigh.

DD loves the Design A Friend dolls (10yo). What on earth are the 7yo who have outgrown dolls playing with?!

My dd has never been overly interested in dolls.
She does walk some cuddlies in a toy pram.
And she quite likes the little wooden dolls in the doll house .
She prefers to play with lego or knex or do craft things.
We walked through the toy section in asda last week, hoping for some xmas ideas.
The only thing she mentioned was "ooh. That's the board game I have at home"
Thanks dd. That was a big help!
She is 7.
No idea what to get her for xmas.
She has just had a growth spurt, so I guess probably clothes

7 is really young, how weird of them. Why do people want kids to grow up so fast?

everybodysang · 19/10/2020 11:55

it is a bit sad, isn't it? I think 7 is the absolute perfect age for toys! Mine has never been into dolls but actually, she asked for a baby doll for Christmas around that age. She did play with it a lot for a while. But she has mostly been into cuddly toys or toys like My Little Pony playsets. Now she is just about to turn 10 and the ponies had been put away for a while but she's suddenly got back into them and it makes me feel so happy that she still wants to play with her toys.

I think your list of presents for your little girl sounds brilliant.

I would rather have a 7 year play with dolls and other toys (which is totally normal and age appropriate) then a 7 year old who only plays video games or watches you tube vids all day. I'm along way off that potential scenario with a 1 year old but it makes me sad to think DD wouldn't be excited about toys.

Noitjustwontdo · 19/10/2020 12:01

My DC are 8, 9 and 10 and definitely don’t like toys. They did until early this year I’d say when they suddenly became way too cool for any of that. My DD’s used to love lol dolls so I’m kinda grateful that’s over...
