Hi
Aibu to think this is ridiculous or am I behind in the time’s. We have been discussing amongst friends what’s on the kids wish lists this year, they seemed take back by the fact by daughter had asked for the kindi kid dolls and furreal kangaroo ( and some other toys like hatchimal l fairy )
They said they were not buying theirs toys this year as they have grown out of them ( same year in school )
Is my child a young 7 year old ?
She has asked for a camera and watch for her birthday but she is still v much in to toys !

She is definitely not too old!

AGoatAteIt · 06/10/2020 18:13

I’d have been a bit gutted if mine hadn’t wanted any toys aged 7. My eldest only got rid of her sylvanian families about a month before she turned 12 and refuses to part with any soft toys (some are on her wish list!) as a teenager.

converseandjeans · 06/10/2020 18:14

I would have thought 7 was the right age for dolls. DD was more into fluffy animals than dolls, but was definitely getting presents like that aged 7.

Don't worry about the other parents are doing - get what your DD has asked for!

UsernameNotValid · 06/10/2020 18:22

Definitely not, my DD is 7 and her favourite toy is still her "baby" which she got for her 2nd birthday. She's asked for yet another pram for her this Christmas too!

lyralalala · 06/10/2020 18:29

I find a lot of people think that a spell of being uninterested in something means they have grown out of it and they get rid of it. Things like dolls, lego and Sylvanian families come in and out of favour I find.

A lot of people are also in a huge hurry for their kids to grow up. Which is sad. They're adults for a long time so the little while they are kids shouldn't be rushed.

Someonetakemebackto91 · 06/10/2020 18:50

Thanks I will defo go ahead with the dolls and animals.
If anyone has any other ideas I’m willing to try haha her birthday is v soon to 🙈

@Someonetakemebackto91

Yeh I was a bit taken back the girls are in the same class Apparently on their list is some certain YouTube merchandise ( looked at the you tubers and they were teen content ) Things like that Now unfortunately I will admit that my daughter is a huge gamer ( she spends a lot of time in hospital cubicle so did become quite well attached to her iPad / YouTube etc ) but I try hard to keep it age related and try to restrict at home. I just couldn’t imagine not having any toys under the tree at 7 She is getting ( lol and rainbow high dolls, Lego friends, hatchinals and then clay / art sets and some fresh board games to play together. Birthday switch games, camera , childrens watch and some furreal toy and that new present pet toy she is desperate for and a drum kit ( send prayers haha )
Gosh, that is a lot of presents!
Peace43 · 06/10/2020 18:59

My 9 year (10 in Jab) old says she isn’t too old for dolls. She’s not too young to like clothes, computer games and make up either!

Someonetakemebackto91 · 06/10/2020 19:00

@Wibblypiggly I don’t think 6 presents for her birthday is that much 🤣🤷‍♀️

My DD is 15 and recently we had the loveliest afternoon dressing up a load of Polly Pockets that we dug out of the loft. We have all the Sylvanian families up there too. It was wonderful to see her enjoy being a kid for an hour or two and I loved it!

HipHopBanzai · 06/10/2020 19:02

My 9 year old has also asked for toys. 7 is definitely not too young for a doll!

TheShapeJaper · 06/10/2020 19:03

My 10 year old is still very much into dolls and other toys. I think it’s great. Far nicer than caking her face in makeup and making duck face selfies into a phone/tik tok

Wibblypiggly · 06/10/2020 19:08

I wasn’t judging @Someonetakemebackto91, I just read this:

“ She is getting ( lol and rainbow high dolls, Lego friends, hatchinals and then clay / art sets and some fresh board games to play together.
Birthday switch games, camera , childrens watch and some furreal toy and that new present pet toy she is desperate for and a drum kit.”

And it sounded like lots. Lucky girl.

11 year old DS days goodbye to his "teds" every day as he sets off to high school.

MojoJojo71 · 06/10/2020 19:24

My almost 8 year old DD has asked for OMG dolls and stuffed toys for her birthday. I’ll never understand why people want their children to grow up so quickly

Sewrainbow · 06/10/2020 19:27

Definitely not too old for dolls or any toys at 7! Whatever do people if not toys at that age?!

Dee1975 · 06/10/2020 19:28

My DDs will be 7 and 9 in January. And their life is still all around dolls dolls dolls! I did try and move the eldest away from them last year. But she’s okays with them every day! So I gave in and Santa bought dolls last year and he will bring more this year!

fastandthecurious · 06/10/2020 19:33

My niece who's 9 loves hatchimals. I've bought her some for Christmas and she plays with loads of toys! 7 is still little it's a great age for dolls and things like that! I'd have thought it weird if a 7 year old didn't play with toys? What do they do then?

Whathappenedtothelego · 06/10/2020 19:33

My 9 year old has been playing with playmobil in the living room since getting in from school.
The 13 year old maintained a supercilious distance from behind a phone screen at first, but phone has now been discarded and they have been playing together for the past hour Grin.

Maryann1975 · 06/10/2020 19:34

I’m a childminder. The school age children I collect (all age 7+) all come in and are straight in to the younger children’s stuff pretty much every day. They don’t mind if it’s sensory play, the dolls, cars, dolls house, magnets, building blocks, Train track, Sand and water, play doh, whatever. They love it!

fastandthecurious · 06/10/2020 19:36

And DS just got a pocket playhouse for his birthday recently, I definitely enjoy putting the dolly's to bed and playing with them more than he does and I'm a fully grown adult😂

movingonup20 · 06/10/2020 19:45

Toys are normal throughout primary. Dd was still asking at 10 for dolls accessories. She only got rid of her pram at 17 years old (the day before her then boyfriend came to stay in the school holidays!)

theboardgame · 06/10/2020 20:14

Something wrong with people. 7 year old is not too old for dolls.

TheOrchidKiller · 06/10/2020 20:31

My 19 year old still cuddles a soft toy if she's fed up. You're never too old. Smile

BlusteryShowers · 06/10/2020 20:34

I still loved playing barbies at 10/11 I'm sure. 7 is the perfect age surely?
